‘Swaad nu barkraar rakhiyo' & ‘mela lut ke liona ae' – Super Sher fan Gurdas Mann uses wrestling analogy of acing the mela dangal to cheer for Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings pulled their biggest, OG superfan Gurdas Mann, who at 68, has kept the vibe around Punjabi music upbeat, ahead of their Qualifier 2 against a star-studded Mumbai side to gee up the team.
The Punjab Kings are not particularly known for an aggressive massive fan-base, but the franchise and broadcasters ensured they hooked in one of the most popular Punjabi figures to drum up some last minute excitement and a general glee of balle balle positivity from Mann.
In a recorded message, Mann said, 'Punjab Kings de saare sheranu, merewalo that is all the Punjab fans, lots of shubhkaamnaayein for Punjab Kings. Raazi rakh.' He essentially joined all of Punjab in wishing the team the best.
Mann evoked a well known prayer, Chardi kalah vich rakhe – willing on the team to stay exuberant and keeps positive mindset. Punjab lost the first qualifiers to Royal Challengers Bangalore but still can make their final after several disappointing seasons and Mann egged them on using a wrestling analogy. Urging them to take the Guru's name and show there is no match to them, he added, '…..baaki galla baad, mela lut ke lioana ae.' It meant, 'forget everything, play like you will steal the top prize.'
The reference is to a wrestling mela, an infinitely more popular event than cricket in sporty Punjab, where if you win, they call it 'mela lut liya.'
Fortified by the return Yuzi Chahal, PBKS will hope Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimram take off on the day. Mann in what was a promotion for Punjabi commentary clearly, said, 'When I listen to Punjabi commentary na yaar, swaad aa gayaa. Swaad nu barkraar rakhiyo. Rab rakh.' It loosely translated to keep the good run of the season, the Punjab flavour, going.'
Mumbai's big guns Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah fired against Gujarat Titans who exited in the playoff. MI have lost their last five games at Ahmedabad but saw some Bumrah magic against Gujarat which pushed them into the qualifier. The MI SM team leant on the 'Ghaleel lotangan…' Ganpati aarti with lime-chilli warding off evil eye for its own stars, including Bumrah and Mitch Santner.

18 long years! Royal Challengers Bengaluru lift maiden IPL title, beat Punjab Kings in title clash
Image credit: BCCI/IPL NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally broke their title jinx in style, defeating Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to lift their maiden Indian Premier League trophy. Despite huffing and puffing to 190 for 9 in their 20 overs, RCB's bowlers rose to the occasion, putting on a disciplined and determined display to restrict Punjab Kings to 184/7 in 20 overs and seal a historic win. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Virat Kohli top-scored for RCB with a gritty 43 off 35 balls, while captain Rajat Patidar looked promising before falling for 26 off 16. Punjab's standout with the ball was Kyle Jamieson, who picked up 3 for 48, while Yuzvendra Chahal bowled economically, finishing with 1 for 37 in his four-over spell. Earlier, RCB's innings never really found momentum, as batters struggled to convert starts into substantial scores. Kohli once again took on the role of anchor, but his knock lacked fluency. He struck just three boundaries — two of them coming after the ninth over — and batted at a strike rate of 122.85. After a promising powerplay that yielded 55/1, RCB slowed down significantly, managing only 42 runs between overs 6 and 11. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ¡Trading con IA en Chile ayuda a usuarios a obtener ganancias potenciales! Mainhubfb Más información Undo Phil Salt began with a flourish, smashing a six and a four in the opening over, but his early dismissal for 16, caught by Shreyas Iyer off Jamieson, hampered RCB's momentum. Mayank Agarwal (24), Patidar (26), and Liam Livingstone (25) all got starts but failed to push on. Jamieson made a big impact with his clever variations and crucial breakthroughs, including the wickets of Salt, Patidar, and Livingstone. Jitesh Sharma's late cameo (24 off 10 balls) and a brief flourish from Romario Shepherd (17 off 9) helped RCB post a competitive total. Jamieson's figures were dented in the 17th over, where Jitesh and Livingstone took him apart for 23 runs. However, he had the last laugh, trapping Livingstone lbw with a full toss to finish with three wickets. India pacer Arshdeep Singh, expensive in his first three overs, came back superbly in the final over to claim three wickets—Krunal Pandya (4), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1), and Shepherd—ensuring RCB didn't breach the 200-run mark. But in the end, 190 proved enough, as RCB's bowlers delivered a spirited performance to finally bring home the elusive IPL trophy after 18 long years of heartbreaks and near-misses.
