Return to Silent Hill Movie Gets Exciting Update
Return to Silent Hill has gotten an exciting update, with the planned next entry in the Silent Hill films getting a theatrical release.
According to a new report from Variety, the new movie based on the iconic horror video game series has seen its distribution rights acquired by Cineverse. As a result, the film will have a wide theatrical release, with no official date available as of now.
The movie is directed by Christophe Gans, who previously directed the 2006 Silent Hill movie. He also made 1995's Crying Freeman, 2001's Brotherhood of the Wolf, and 2014's Beauty and the Beast.
The next Silent Hill movie is said to be a 'faithful adaptation' of Silent Hill 2, according to Cineverse. Originally released in 2001, Silent Hill 2 is often heralded as one of the greatest horror games of all time, and recently received a remake in 2024.
'The film will follow James (Irvine), a man broken after being separated from his one true love (Anderson),' the plot synopsis reads, per Deadline. 'When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.'
Gans co-wrote the script for Return to Silent Hill with Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider. Victor Hadida produces the film under his Davis Films banner alongside Hassell Free Productions' Molly Hassell and David Wulf.

Jennifer Lopez is making a bold new move in her career. The multi-hyphenate star is at the center of the teaser trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman, a film adaptation of the 1993 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical hit from Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon. Lopez plays Ingrid Luna/the Spider Woman, a fictional silver screen diva who brings dazzling technicolor into the bleak life of prisoner Molina (Tonatiuh Elizarraraz), a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The film switches from Molina's harsh reality to a fantastical, musical utopia as he recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical to his cellmate, Valentín (Diego Luna), a political prisoner. Set to John Kander and Fred Ebb's — the legendary duo behind Chicago and Cabaret — award-winning score and a book by Tony Award winner Terrence McNally, Condon's adaptation draws inspiration from the Broadway musical and the acclaimed 1976 novel of the same name by Argentinian writer Manuel Puig. The Broadway musical won seven Tony awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Chita Rivera, who originated the role of the Spider Woman. Condon's adaptation isn't the only time the Spider Woman has made her way to the big screen. Héctor Babenco directed the first film adaptation of the novel, which premiered in 1985. The critically acclaimed film starred William Hurt, Raúl Juliá, and Sônia Braga. Hurt won the Best Actor award when the film premiered at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Actor. Babenco became the first Brazilian filmmaker to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Director, and the film was the first Brazilian production to receive a nod for Best Picture. It also received a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. Lopez is not only the star of the film, but also serves as an executive producer alongside Luna, her ex-husband Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and 12 others. The movie debuted at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival back in January and received a standing ovation from the audience, which reportedly left Lopez in tears. The mother of two previously opened up about taking the role during an interview with Variety's Awards Circuit podcast in November. She called it "the most challenging and rewarding role I've ever had." "It's a dark story, but also one about love and survival — about helping each other through hard times," Lopez added. "I think that's a message we really need right now." She recalled Kander being with her in the studio when she recorded her songs. "He's [98] years old and still so full of life," Lopez said. "Hearing him say, 'I've never heard this song sung better' — it was one of the best moments of my career." Kiss of the Spider Woman is set to premiere in theaters Oct. 10. The project, which was being developed by Universal Pictures and set to star Ozark and Inventing Anna actress Julia Garner as the pop superstar, was put on an indefinite hold in 2023 as Madonna embarked on her Celebration World Tour. In 2024, however, Madonna sparked rumors that the film might be back in the works, when she shared a since-deleted photo of herself sitting at a typewriter working on a screenplay titled Who's That Girl — an apparent nod to her 1987 film and song of the same name. Still, Madonna herself floated the idea of creating a TV series about her life in November of last year, claiming that a number of 'producers and agents' told her that she wouldn't be able to make her film the way she wanted to. Russell Simmons sues HBO for $20 million over doc alleging sexual misconduct
NEW YORK — Russell Simmons has filed a lawsuit against HBO and the makers of the 2020 documentary 'On the Record,' claiming defamation for their allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. The record executive, who's seeking $20 million in damages, is also accusing them of ignoring or suppressing evidence from witnesses who 'refuted and rebutted the accusations falsely made' against Simmons, according to lawsuit filed in New York. 'Despite voluminous support for Mr. Simmons in the form of credible information, persuasive evidence, witness statements and calls for further investigation by notable members of the media, politics and the civil rights movement, the defendants simply disregarded it, and released, and continue to re-release globally, a film that tremendously disparaged and damaged Mr. Simmons with salacious and defamatory accusations that he vehemently denies,' his attorneys, Imran Ansari and Carla DiMare, said in a written statement to Variety. In the complaint, Ansari claims the streamer ignored multiple polygraph tests that 'would have been discovered with due diligence and adherence to accepted journalistic standards.' The documentary made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January of 2020 and detailed sexual assault and misconduct allegations against the Def Jam Records founder from multiple women. The project was originally to be produced as a part of Oprah Winfrey's deal with Apple TV, but the media mogul later withdrew from the film and it ultimately landed at HBO Max. Along with the $20 million, Simmons is requesting a court order to have the title removed from all of HBO's platforms. Simmons has faced multiple lawsuits accusing him of misconduct. More than 20 women have come forward alleging sexual assault, many of whom participated in the documentary. A spokesperson for Warner Bros., the parent of HBO, told TMZ the company 'stand[s] by the filmmakers and their process, and will vigorously defend ourselves against these unfounded allegations.'
