Delhi: Lajpat Nagar electronics shop hit by Rs 32.5 lakh robbery
Gunjan Narula, the owner, alleged that Rs 32.5 lakh in cash was stolen in her complaint to the police on Monday.
The store, near Lajpat Nagar's Central Market, sold TVs, AC units, and refrigerators. 'I noticed that all my cash drawers at the cash counters were open. There was a big vault… which was also missing… apart from this, I have a cabin in the basement and the cabin cash counter was also broken and all the cash from it was taken,' wrote Narula in the complaint.
According to the police, two men on scooters wearing helmets broke into the store on Sunday night, looted the money, and fled. According to the complainant, the cash counters contained around Rs 2.5 lakh while the vault contained Rs 30 lakh.
'What has been the most difficult in this investigation is the fact that the owner would switch off the CCTVs in the store after closing it,' said a police officer, privy to the investigation.
'However, our team managed to track the culprits to a great extent using the network of CCTVs from nearby stores and areas,' the officer added.
'By the looks of it, the robbers knew where the money had been stored,' said the officer.

Times News Network Chandigarh: The cyber cell of the UT Police filed a case against unknown persons for allegedly duping a city resident of Rs 6.6 lakh on the pretext of providing high returns on investment in online share trading. After taking the money, the fraudsters neither delivered profit nor returned the money. No arrest has been made in the case so far. Anil Parkash Dubey, 55, a resident of Sector 32, Chandigarh, said that he received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number on May 12. The caller claimed to represent a company involved in share market trading. After explaining the process, the caller sent a registration link on WhatsApp. Upon contacting the numbers he provided, the complainant was instructed to transfer funds. Initially, he "invested" Rs 10,000 and earned Rs 1,500 profit. Subsequently, he invested Rs 3 lakh. Later, he received a WhatsApp call requesting additional payment for IPO shares, leading to a further transfer of around Rs 3.6 lakh totalling around Rs 6.6 lakh. The accused told him to purchase shares worth Rs 44 lakh in the new IPO. They claimed that his previous IPO profits plus current holdings amounted to Rs 22 lakh and requested an additional Rs 22 lakh for share allocation. However, the victim refused to transfer more money and demanded the money he had invested with profit. However, the fraudsters kept asking for Rs 22 lakh more. At this point, Dubey realised that he had been conned and filed a complaint at the cyber police station. The complainant also provided transaction details and phone numbers of the suspects to the police. Kerala Govt to Take Over Administration Of Aided School After Student's Electrocution
Last Updated: Mithun, a student of Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam district, died last week after coming into contact with a live electric wire on the school premises. General Education Minister V Sivankutty announced on Saturday that the Kerala government will take over the administration of an aided school where a 13-year-old student was recently electrocuted. The school's manager will also be dismissed from service due to the incident, reported PTI. Mithun, a student of Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam district, died last week after coming into contact with a live electric wire on the school premises. Speaking to reporters, Sivankutty said the Director of Public Instruction (DPI) reported 'serious lapses" that led to the student's accidental death. 'In this context, the DPI will issue an order dismissing the manager of Thevalakkara Boys High School and handing over the administration to the district education officer in Kollam," the minister said. Referring to the provisions of the Kerala Education Act, he noted that if 'any lapse is found on the part of the manager of an aided school, the government has the authority to take over the institution for a specific period in the public interest." Sivankutty remarked that the untimely death of the class 8 student had caused 'widespread sorrow," and the government was taking measures to prevent such incidents in the future. 'Despite the authorities convening several meetings to ensure school safety, this incident still occurred," he said. In response to growing concerns, the Department of General Education has started taking extra measures to ensure school safety. The minister mentioned that PTA members, teachers, students, and the public are encouraged to report safety concerns. A high-level review meeting on ongoing safety measures is scheduled for July 31. As part of the support for Mithun's family, the Scouts and Guides under the General Education Department will build a house for them. An amount of Rs 3 lakh will be provided from the DPI's account. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has already granted Rs 5 lakh as financial relief. The school management has also announced a Rs 10 lakh grant as assistance. Additionally, the Kerala School Teachers' Association (KSTA) has pledged Rs 10 lakh for the family, according to the minister. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 17:26 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
