Viola Davis Responded To Timothée Chalamet's Viral SAG Speech, And People Are Praising Her Reaction
Viola Davis had some very sweet words for Timothée Chalamet after he shouted her out in his unconventional SAG Awards acceptance speech.
Timothée made history at the 2025 SAG Awards, becoming the youngest person to ever win Best Actor in a Leading Role. He took home the bronze statue (also known as The Actor) for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
And if you're looking at the statue saying, "That does not look bronze." You're right. The statues achieve their bluish-green color after being chemically oxidized.
While the win itself was one people will never forget, it was his speech that left the masses in awe. And based on his reaction to it all, no one was more shocked than Timothée.

'I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me," Timothée said in his acceptance speech after thanking his mother. "But the truth is, this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero, and it was the honor of a lifetime playing him.'
While some celebrity speeches can feel like they were written by AI, the 29-year-old didn't hold back his desire to be one of the greats and share his love for the craft. 'I know we're in a subjective business, but the truth is, I'm really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don't usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats."
'I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight. I'm as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I'm deeply grateful. This doesn't signify that, but it's a little more fuel. It's a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.'
Well, Viola recently caught wind of his affirming thoughts, calling his speech "beautiful." Viola's daughter Genesis, who happens to be a huge Timothée fan, was the one who made her aware of the iconic namedrop.
"It was a speech about excellence," Viola told Access Hollywood while on the red carpet for her upcoming film G20. "It wasn't about celebrity, it wasn't about ego. I completely understood it, and it was beautiful."
If that isn't a humble way to acknowledge your greatness, I don't know what is! And, honestly, I don't blame her. Viola is an EGOT winner, a champion of women, and an all-around amazing talent...how could you not be inspired?

California Assembly Passes Film Tax Bill to Expand Production Incentives
The California State Assembly has overwhelmingly passed a bill that would overhaul the state's production tax incentive program, a key step in legislators' efforts to provide support to struggling Hollywood workers. The vote on Assembly Bill 1138 was 73 in favor and one against, and comes a day after a similar bill, SB 630, passed 34-1 out of the state senate. The bills now head to the opposite houses as its co-authors say they are looking to expedite the committee vote process so that they can be passed by the legislature, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, and implemented by the California Film Commission all ideally before the legislative session ends for the year in September. 'We are in an emergency, given the unemployment levels and the loss of business in California due to the film industry, so we are working with the legislative leadership to find ways to have the bill go into effect this summer,' said Hollywood Asm. Rick Chavez Zbur, who is one of the co-authors on the bills. The two bills had language removed that calls for the program's cap to be increased from $330 million to $750 million, though that increase is still included in Gov. Gavin Newsom's revised proposed budget for the coming fiscal year. Zbur says that there is high confidence among supporters of the program expansion that the cap raise will be approved in the final budget. 'The structural support that we are receiving from all of the entertainment unions, all of the studios, independent producers, the sound stage managers and owners is uniform, and I've never seen anything like it,' he said. The two bills, known together as the California Film & TV Jobs Act, would expand the types of productions eligible for the tax credit, including animated productions and TV shows with a half-hour runtime. The bill also allows productions that shoot in Los Angeles County and other select nearby shooting locations in Southern California to be eligible for an increased tax writeoff of 35% of all eligible spending. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of film and TV production jobs in California in 2024 fell by approximately 40,000 from the all-time high recorded in 2022, when ongoing demand for streaming shows and a need to catch up on projects delayed by the 2020 pandemic helped fuel a surge in productions. But a variety of factors led to production jobs dropping not just in California but in other major American production hubs like Georgia and New York in 2024. Among them was an industry-wide cutback in production spending as media companies looked to make their streaming services profitable, as well as increased competition from other countries with their own production tax incentives. The combination of that drop in jobs and the loss of work caused by the 2023 strikes that shut down productions for 191 days has led to thousands of entertainment workers in California facing serious financial struggle and has called the future of a cornerstone of the state's economy into question. Tom Hanks is finally speaking out about his daughter Elizabeth Anne (E.A.) Hanks' explosive memoir, "The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road." "Saying that my mother was mentally ill, that she was possibly 'bipolar with episodes of extreme paranoia and delusion,' makes sense of the nights sitting with her on a blanket in the driveway," she wrote per E! News. "My mother sobbing and convinced there were men inside the house, bugging the walls, waiting for us in our bedrooms." E.A. shared that by the time she was 14, she had begun to realize the instability of her childhood. "There often wasn't enough food, schoolwork went unsupported, and I shouldn't have been woken up at three in the morning to hear an impromptu lecture on why yoga was the devil's work." While she clarified that her mother never physically beat her, she described a number of unsettling and emotionally abusive incidents. "She pushed me, shook me, pulled at my hair, and locked me in a closet once or twice … she told me there were men hiding in her closet who were waiting for us to go to sleep to come out and do horrible things," E.A. shared. She also recalled bizarre and haunting conversations that stayed with her. "She talked to me about dozens of miscarried babies and how I might join my siblings in eternal limbo one day," she revealed. Despite the pain and instability she experienced growing up, E.A. acknowledged that her mother also provided moments of care and effort that she continues to remember fondly. She wrote that her mother "drove me all over California to horse shows at ungodly hours," a gesture that showed deep commitment and support for her interests. E.A. also recalled more lighthearted and tender moments, sharing that her mother would "cut up cookie dough for my friends sleeping over and let me dye my hair every color I wanted." Eventually, E.A. moved out of her mother's home and went to live with her father, Tom Hanks, his wife Rita Wilson, and her two half-brothers, Chet and Truman Hanks. Despite the tensions between her and her mom, E.A. shares a strong, affirming bond with her father. In her memoir, she reflected on the profound emotional significance Disneyland held in her life, not merely as a theme park, but as a constant presence that grounded her throughout her journey. "Disneyland has been more of a constant in my life than any house I have ever lived in," she wrote. "I have spent Thanksgiving there. I have spent Christmas there.
