Eurovision fans in tears over Celine Dion's poignant message amid health battle
Eurovision fans were moved to tears as Celine Dion shared heartfelt words amidst her ongoing health battles.
The Canadian songstress, 57, who clinched Eurovision victory for Switzerland back in 1988 with 'Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi', has become one of the world's best-selling artists since her win.
Battling a severe condition known as "stiff person syndrome", Dion has been away from the spotlight for some time but made a poignant return last summer at the Paris Olympics with a performance of Edith Piaf's 'Hymne A L'Amour' at the Eiffel Tower.
During tonight's (May 13) first Eurovision 2025 semi-final, viewers were stunned when Celine appeared in a pre-recorded video message, expressing her enduring affection for Switzerland, reports the Express.
As her message began, the audience erupted in cheers upon hearing her say: "I'd love nothing more than to be with you."
She went on to express: "Switzerland will always hold a special place in my heart. It's the country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary."
Celine also reflected on her Eurovision triumph as "a lifechanging moment" and described the contest's return to Switzerland as "beautiful and emotional".
Viewers were quick to take to social media, previously known as Twitter, to express their reactions to the emotional moment. One viewer posted: "QUEEN CELINE IM CRYING #Eurovision." (sic)
Another shared: "She said "Bisou", I love you Céline #Eurovision #Eurovision2025." A third commented: "OMG that's so beautiful right now." (sic)
An emotional fan remarked: "That's beautiful, stop it right now. Definitely stuff for the final."
Another penned: "The way i love celine dion, i thank my parents who forced me to listen to her since i was like 4, what a queen, i miss her #Eurovision. " (sic)
One fan expressed: "This tribute to Celine Dion's #Eurovision win in 1988 is emotional and beautiful. Well done #ESC2025 #Eurovisión2025. Proper respect to a legend." (sic)
Meanwhile, another added: "That was beautiful. Celine Dion's song is actually one of my favourite Eurovision songs. #Eurovisión #Eurovisión2025. " (sic)
The first Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final aired tonight at 8pm and the second will air on Thursday at the same time on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
The Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final 2025 will be broadcast from 8pm to 12am this Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Jacqui Hurley: The first time I was ever on a plane we were moving our lives across the world
Favourite childhood holiday memory I grew up in Australia. We moved there when I was three, so the first time I was ever on a plane was moving our lives across the world. My favourite memories were just being outside. That's why the ambassador work with MiWadi FAI Football Camps is a perfect fit; so many of my best memories come from that freedom. An aerial view of Sydney's iconic Opera House, city skyline, and expansive waterfront at dawn. Kids now have so much structure: school, sports, and rules. Summer camps were where we could just be free. I remember being on the road with my friends, playing football or whatever it was, just laughing, just a stream of fun and happiness. Most surprising destination Paris, with what the trip meant to us as a family. I thought the kids wouldn't love it; they'd see it as a big city with lots of people and not much fun. Jacqui Hurley and family in Paris We took them to the Olympics, which they loved, but all they wanted to do was see the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and get pictures. They were way more into the culture than I expected. Sometimes, the people you're with and their reaction to a place can surprise you and shape how you feel about it. Most memorable trip In 2017, we decided to take the kids to New Zealand. We went for six weeks. Lily was five-and-a-half months, and Luke was three. My husband Shane and I said, 'Let's just do it.' It's hard travelling with kids — when is a good time? But we just went for it. It was a long trip but the places we went to and the things we saw are still some of the most memorable trips we've taken. We felt if we didn't do it, when would we? Luke still remembers it. It was amazing to do something like that as a family, to go and experience something different, pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zone. Favourite cities I love visiting Rome. I go there every couple of years for the Six Nations. There's so much culture and beauty. Anyone who's been says it's a special place. I love the food, the people, the vibe. Shane and I often get electric bikes and go around the city. Even the stadium experience during the Six Nations is unreal — bands, DJs, the whole party. Then you're off to the Vatican. It's jaw-dropping. I always try to see something new when I go back. The Roman cityscape, with the dome of St. Peter's basilica in the Vatican visible. My favourite city in the world is Sydney. There's so much going on, great nightlife, brilliant beaches, and cool places to visit. Growing up in Australia, the weather and the people stir something in my soul. When I'm there, I feel at home. There's a vibe. We're going back this Christmas. It's just one of those places I love. It always gives you a good time. Most beautiful country Funny enough, New Zealand reminded me a lot of Ireland. It made me realise how beautiful Ireland is, how green the grass and the culture are. New Zealand also has these amazing lakes. Lake Tekapo is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. New Zealand. We slept in a campervan and woke up to crystal-blue water; it looked like something from a postcard. The old roads, the small towns — it felt like old Ireland. Maybe I'm biased but I wouldn't live anywhere else but here. If the weather was better, we'd all be happier, but then we'd have nothing to talk about. Favourite thing to do while travelling We're pretty active. Even with the kids, we try to sightsee in the morning and do the pool in the evening. You can't sightsee all day with small kids, so we aim for balance; something for us, something for them. Even at home, we've done the Greenway a few times. The kids love the outdoors, so we do things that keep us moving, and then try to relax later. Bucket-list trip The big one is Argentina. We're going to Australia later this year and might stop in Thailand but Argentina is the one we keep coming back to. I'd love to go to Mendoza and see the waterfalls and the landscape. It's been at the top of the list for a while. Mendoza, Argentina There's no plan yet but I'd like to make it happen in the next two or three years. We've got a big wooden world map in the kitchen, and we always stick pins on it and try to make a plan for the next trip.

Leaving Cert Diary: German and Construction cap off another week
What's another week of tough exams between friends?! The class of 2025 have another weekend to relax and unwind - we have some tips to help here! For many, the Leaving Cert is over, but our Leaving Cert Diary entries continue with thanks to members of the Irish Second-Level Students' Union (ISSU). Today, we lead off with Isabelle on German, and keep reading as Ryan tells us about his long day with Construction studies... Isabelle - Freitag, den 13. Juni 2025. The day has come. We walked into our exam halls/special centres with our heads bursting with Deutsch at 9.30 this morning. Higher level students were met with Leservrständnis 1, about a professional gamer called Till, and we were asked questions regarding his journey as a professional gamer. This was followed by a grammar section with challenging adjective endings. The second Leserverständnis followed an interview with a Munich student working in Antarctica. The questions related to the harsh winters there. I chose to do the Äußerung zum Thema about the diary writing. The questions were simple and nice, relating to how relevant it is to write diaries in our modern world. The pen pal letter had plenty of nice broad topics, including the Olympics, how we meet new people, and our morning routine. The 10 minute break between the written and aural allowed me to have a much needed stretch and movement break (fellow neurodivergent students will understand!) The Hörverständnis was the part I was very anxious about, but was extremely happy with how smooth it was. The questions were straightforward and the 40 minutes went by in a blissful breeze. I personally was highly expecting topics of AI on the paper, and so was surprised to see that it made no such appearance on neither the written or aural paper. While challenging in many ways, I found the paper relatively straightforward and there was nothing on it that my teacher hadn't prepared me for (shout-out to my wunderbar Lehrerin Frau Prior!) It was all building up to this for Ryan... The Construction Studies exam is over, after months of research and manufacturing of an artefact, a grim 4 hour day practical and a 3 hour long exam it's all finished. Construction Studies was my break from the written subjects over the past two years, I'd look forward to going downstairs to get into some practical work, but then there was the Monday classes where we would do theory, it's not a surprise that the class attendance was always better for the practical classes then the Monday theory class! Today's exam was theory based, the subject is 50% assessment before the exam and 50% for the written paper. I think the exam was fair, but definitely had a few challenges that will have surprised students because they definitely surprised me. The first question was the window detail which is one of the harder detailed drawings, there was a few tricky details thrown into it to catch people. I was happy to see a Safety question come up in Q2 however I was hoping a site safety question would come up somewhere on the paper, which it didn't! Question 3 again was a very predictable question which I was very happy with, although Q4 was definitely not expected and threw me from having options in the exam to having no options of questions. The U Values question this year again had two tricky elements thrown into it which I have to believe will have tricked some people. For the last number of years the two details stayed the same but this year they changed it so I think people will have been caught. Q6 again was a highly anticipated question on Enviormental impact which was very manageable. I personally did not study Q7,8,9 as I opted to go for the chapters that suited me better as there is a lot of choice on this paper, we have 10 options and have to answer 5 questions. Again, Q10 was a bit difficult and required critical thinking but I think most people will have got the majority of the marks here. Overall it was quite a challenging paper compared to previous years but I think students will be happy with it. I'm certainly happy to have it all over but unfortunately I still have one more exam to go, I just have to wait 10 days to do it! Founded in 2008, the ISSU is the national representative body for school students in the Republic of Ireland. The ISSU is led by students, for students.
