Flight cancelled after BA pilot allegedly left cockpit door open
The newspaper reported that his actions 'alarmed' some passengers, and other crew members alerted the airline about the incident. The pilot was suspended, meaning the return flight scheduled to arrive at Heathrow on August 8 was cancelled.
Affected passengers were offered alternative flights and the vast majority arrived within four hours of their original plan, the PA news agency understands. The pilot has returned to flying after an investigation found there was no security threat.

A British Airways spokesperson said: 'Safety and security is our top priority and allegations of this nature are always fully investigated.'
Since the September 11 terror attacks in the US in 2001, pilots have been required to keep cockpit doors closed and locked to prevent unauthorised access. It emerged earlier this week that an easyJet captain who reportedly walked around a luxury hotel drunk and naked has been suspended.
He was scheduled to fly holidaymakers back to the UK from Cape Verde, west Africa, around 36 hours later but was grounded by the airline.

"I did it last month for the first time and it was good, quite a lot of young families were doing it. "The stones are in a hidden location and anyone who finds one and gets in touch through the website, gets paid." If a child finds a stone, they just need to tell a parent and then Chris will be able to transfer the money to the parent's account. This month's money stones will be released on Sunday, August 17 at 11am on Chris' website here: Chris added: "I have been a solicitor for six years and in the industry for 15 years, but I set my own law firm up this year. "Because I'm in control, I thought this would be a good way of getting people outdoors and exercising. "At most we will have eight winners, but if 50 or 60 people get outdoors it's a winner for me, as they are out exercising and being active." Off-duty NYPD officer fatally shoots man on Staten Island pointing fake gun
NEW YORK (AP) — An off-duty New York Police Department officer fatally shot a man pointing a fake gun at the officer on Friday night on Staten Island, according to law enforcement. At about 8 p.m., a 911 call came in about a man with a gun at the back of a diner, Assistant Chief Melissa Eger, of the NYPD Patrol Borough of Staten Island, said during a news conference. An off-duty officer then spotted the same man with what appeared to be a firearm and told another off-duty officer, said Eger. They told the man to put the firearm down but instead he pointed it at the officers, said Eger, who added that surveillance video captured the events. One officer then fired at the man. The officers 'performed life-saving measures' and then the man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, she said. 'Our officers were confronted with a dangerous and unpredictable situation, and they attempted to de-escalate the situation multiple times,' she said. An imitation firearm was found at the scene, she said. The shooting is being investigated. She said the man has a criminal history, but the details were not immediately clear.

Burglar who raided chainsaw storage unit banned from Cumbria until he is sentenced
A BURGLAR who admitted raiding a storage container in Keswick where high-value chain saws were being kept has been granted bail. Samuel Heys, 31, committed the offence on August 11 after travelling to the area from his home in Barnard Castle, Carlisle's Rickergate court heard. He pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal. The defendant's lawyer Geoff Lockerbie said Heys should be granted bail because a co-defendant who denies the same allegation has been freed. Heys' vehicle had been detained by the police and is likely to be crushed, said the lawyer. After considering the case, magistrates granted the defendant bail on condition that the stays out of Cumbria unless he has a pre-arranged visit with his solicitor. He will return to the court on September 5 to be sentenced. Heys' address was given as High Riggs, Barnard Castle, County Durham.
