HEIDENHEIM, Germany, May 22 (Reuters) - Bundesliga club Heidenheim scored twice in three minutes in the second half to come from two goals down and snatch a 2-2 draw against visitors Elversberg in the relegation playoff first leg on Thursday.
Elversberg, third in the second division, stunned Heidenheim to go 2-0 up by halftime thanks to goals from Lukas Petkov in the 18th minute and Fisnik Asllani, the team's top scorer this season.
Heidenheim, who finished in 16th place in the Bundesliga, had a goal disallowed on the stroke of halftime and hit the woodwork early in the second half before Tim Siersleben pulled one back in the 62nd.
Just two minutes later Mathias Honsak drew Heidenheim level, scoring on the rebound as the hosts got 14 efforts towards goal in a strong second half.
The return leg in Elversberg is on Monday.
VfL Bochum and Holstein Kiel were relegated from the Bundesliga while Cologne and Hamburg SV won automatic promotion to the top division.

Big-hearted Cristiano Ronaldo laughs it off after fan in wheelchair accidentally drives into him

CRISTIANO RONALDO'S attitude towards fans can't be knocked - even when they accidentally knock him! The Manchester United legend won new admirers for the way he dealt with a supporter catching him on the shin with his wheelchair. 3 3 Viewers loved the amusing exchange as Ronaldo ended up with a smile almost as big as his bank balance. It began an eventful night for Ronaldo, who was outside Portugal's team hotel at the time of the 'collision'. The Al-Nassr striker was later grabbed by a pitch invader as he warmed up at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena to face Germany in the Nations League semi-final. And he then drilled Portugal's clincher in a 2-1 comeback win - thanks to his 137th international goal midway through the second half. Understandably the 40-year-old looked ecstatic. But he was in high spirits during his hotel encounter. Ronaldo walked over to sign an autograph. And as he was preparing to do just that, the fan's wheelchair nudged forward and hit the five-time Ballon d'Or winner on the right leg. 3 Ronaldo rubbed his shin as he smiled and shared a joke with the fan. It's just possible the ex- Real Madrid winger was mischievously pretending to have been fouled - as contact looked minimal. Bruno Fernandes matches Cristiano Ronaldo record as he wins Man Utd award - but admits he DOESN'T want it And he then finished scribbling his signature before posing for a selfie with the man. One fan responded to the clip on social media by saying: "Massive respect to CR7 who made the supporters day." Another viewer wrote: "Ronaldo down to earth." "I have to respect him for this," posted a third. Many fans still relentlessly argue online over Ronaldo's GOAT claims compared to those of Lionel Messi. But Ron's 'bumpy' exchange even earned grudging backing from supporters of his great rival! One said: "As someone who prefers Messi's play style this is why you gotta respect Ronaldo, class human being."

From pitch invader scuffle to matchwinner – Cristiano Ronaldo stars for Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo overcame a pre-match scuffle with an enthusiastic fan to again be Portugal's hero as he fired them to the Nations League final. The 40-year-old was confronted by a pitch invader who wanted a selfie ahead of kick-off before scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 semi-final victory over Germany in Munich. The hosts had gone in front early in the second half when Liverpool transfer target Florian Wirtz headed home but Roberto Martinez's men hit back with two goals in five minutes. A brilliant strike from Francisco Conceicao, whose father Sergio scored the last time Portugal beat Germany in Euro 2000, brought them level before Ronaldo bagged his 137th international goal with an easy tap-in to win the match. It sent Portugal through to the final where they will meet either Spain or France on Sunday. There was plenty of drama in the warm-up as midway through an electrical storm, Ronaldo had his confrontation, with the young fan dragged away by stewards. The storm caused a 10-minute delay to kick-off, but once the action got under way it was almost an electric start for the hosts as they started on the front foot with Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa making two great saves. First he produced a fine stop to deny debutant Nick Woltemade's fizzed effort before getting down quickly to turn Leon Goretzka's stroked effort around the post. Portugal were inches away from taking the lead early in the second half as Ronaldo was just unable to connect with Nuno Mendes' incisive cross, which agonisingly grazed the striker's studs. And soon after the ball went in at the other end as Germany took the lead in the 48th minute. Joshua Kimmich, winning his 100th cap, made it, clipping a delightful ball over the defence for Wirtz to run on to and find the bottom corner. Portugal's response was good and Bruno Fernandes, fresh from a post-season tour to Asia with Manchester United, whipped an effort just wide. But it was substitute Conceicao who made the difference five minutes after coming off the bench. It was a brilliant individual goal, cutting in from the right, driving towards goal before finding the bottom corner with a 25-yard curling effort. The turnaround was complete five minutes later after another fine goal. Mendes played a one-two with Fernandes and then laid it on a plate for Ronaldo to tap into an empty net after just staying onside. Conceicao could have killed the match but whistled an effort just wide and Germany almost equalised moments later as Karim Adeyemi advanced into the box but his shot hit the outside of the post. Marc-Andre ter Stegen made a miraculous double save to deny Diogo Jota and Conceicao at the death, but Portugal's work was done.

Ronaldo breaks another scoring record as Portugal reach Nations League final

GERMANY 1-2 PORTUGAL: Cristiano Ronaldo fired Roberto Martinez's side into the final of the Nations League with a comeback win over hosts Germany at the Allianz Arena Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal to a come-from-behind win over Germany to book their place in Sunday's Nations League final. Florian Wirtz had put the hosts ahead with a brilliant header from Joshua Kimmich's delicious chip three minutes into the second-half. But a triple change from Roberto Martinez sparked Portugal into life. It was one of those subs who put the visitors on level terms, with Francisco Conceição driving forward before curling a fantastic effort past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and into the bottom corner. ‌ Just five minutes after that, Ronaldo scored what would prove to be the winner. Nuno Mendes burst through the Germany defence before squaring the ball for his captain, who was left with an empty net to tap into. ‌ That goal also saw Ronaldo break the record for the most goals in a single Nations League A campaign, having notched seven strikes. That is one more than previous joint-holders Romelu Lukaku and Ferran Torres managed in the 2021/2022 campaign. It is though three less than Viktor Gyokeres managed as Sweden won promotion from Nations League C this year. It is the second Nations League final Portugal have reached. They won the first edition of the tournament back in 2019. Holders Spain and 2018 World Cup winners France will contest the other semi-final, which will be held in Stuttgart on Thursday night. It is the first time Portugal have beaten Germnay in any competition for 25 years. Their performance in the second-half was hailed by former Manchester City star Andy Hinchcliffe. He told Prime Video: "The genius of this goal is its simplicity. It's just pass and move football. Brilliant football to open Germany up. What a response to going behind from Portugal. He's not the attacking power he was but ultimately it looks as if Ronaldo's goal will be the decisive one. "The first half was a pretty even constant - Germany maybe shaded it. In the second half, yes Germany got the goal but it was an attacking flash. It's been a dominant performance from Portugal on and off the ball. "When Germany were 1-0 up, they adopted the right approach. They were looking for a second goal. But the substitutions from Roberto Martinez changed the complexion if the game. It's up to Germany to get a foothold in the game and do to Portugal what Portugal did to them."
