Girl, 9, dies after procedure at California dental office
VISTA, Calif. (KSWB/KUSI) – Authorities are looking into the death of a 9-year-old girl that happened hours after she underwent general anesthesia for a dental surgery at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista, California on March 18th.
A statement from Dr. Ryan Watkins, a dentist anesthesiologist at Dreamtime Dentistry, says, in part, 'The patient was referred to our office for dental treatment under general anesthesia due to her young age and acute situational anxiety. Throughout the procedure she was continuously monitored by our dentist anesthesiologist…'

The statement goes on to say: 'Following the procedure she was discharged in stable condition – awake, with stable vital signs…'
A report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office claims the girl was discharged from the facility and remained asleep on the ride home.
Once at home, she was placed in her bed where she remained asleep, KSWB/KUSI reports. Family checked on her throughout the day and later found her unresponsive.
The girl was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rady Children's Hospital.

A representative for Dr. Watkins said, 'The medical examiner's report leaves out the fact that following the procedure, and after time in recovery, the patient was discharged in stable condition. She was awake with stable vital signs…'
The statement adds that, at this time, the cause of death has not been determined. The medical examiner is conducting a thorough investigation, with which they are fully cooperating.
This is not the first incident at Dreamtime Dentistry to make headlines.
Back in 2016, a patient under the care of Dr. Watkins nearly died after a cardiac incident during a dental procedure under anesthesia.
Nexstar's KSWB/KUSI reached out to the medical examiner's office and San Diego police, who are conducting the investigation, but had not received a response as of publishing time.
A GoFundMe has been set up to cover the funeral costs, raising more than $15,000 as of Monday.

‘Somebody knows where he is': Search continues for suspect in Nashville hit-and-run that left tourist seriously injured
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro police have identified a suspect in the hit-and-run that injured a 21-year-old man on a busy Nashville street. Father lucky to be alive after stray bullet hits neck
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was a scary situation in Frayser, as a man survived a stray bullet to the neck over the weekend. Cornelius Seals, a father of four, says he walked out and thought he heard fireworks, when instead it was gunfire. 'It was just a regular day,' he said. 'My brother got his kids out here, so they just walking around and I hear, like, fireworks and my instincts was like, where did they get fireworks from?' Police responded to the shooting on Donna Drive near Burnham Avenue just after 8 p.m. on Saturday. Teen charged with murder in Frayser shooting, robbery Surveillance footage shows his kids were outside as well, so Seals' first instinct as a father was to protect his kids as he was later rushed to the hospital by a neighbor. 'And you run outside and you end up getting shot in the neck, and they shooting for real. Where all the kids at?' Seals said. Seals, who moved from Denver a few years ago says Frayser has been getting too violent recently, with 20 reported homicides this year alone, and says he plans to move away. 'I have to for the safety of my family. I don't want to move but I have to, I can't take any more shootouts,' Seals said. 'I gotta get far away.' Belmont Abbey nursing students among five nationwide taking part in Mercy Ships internship in Madagascar
BELMONT, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Three Belmont Abbey nursing students have been selected among only five nationwide to join a Mercy Ships internship program. Nursing students Emma Harris, Caroline Gutierrez and Eric Dike will take part in the inaugural summer internship program. Mercy Ships is a global Christian nonprofit organization that delivers healthcare to communities in medical deserts by operating fully volunteer staffed hospital ships that provide free, life-changing surgeries and medical care. Charlotte nonprofit gives families furniture to 'make their house into a home' This summer, the trio will spend two weeks aboard a floating hospital ship in Madagascar, the Africa Mercy, shadowing medical professionals, assisting in transformative surgeries, and witnessing care being delivered to those who would otherwise go untreated. All three are from North Carolina: Gutierrez, Gastonia; Harris, Charlotte, Dike, Wake Forest. But this once-in-a-lifetime experience comes with a challenge. Gutierrez, Dike and Harris must raise funds to cover their travel and participation costs. They've each launched a GoFundMe campaign to make this mission possible.
