Joju George says ‘I didn't receive a single rupee for acting in Churuli' as he expresses betrayal in cussing dialogues
Joju George is undoubtedly one of the most prominent actors from Malayalam cinema. With the actor making headlines for his candid statements, he has now spoken out against the makers of Churuli, alleging that he has not received his remuneration yet.

In an interview with The New Indian Express, Joju George said, 'I didn't receive a single rupee for acting in Churuli.' Adding more details, the actor-director expressed how the cussing in the film created a burden for him.
The actor alleged that the makers prompted him to speak the curse words in Churuli, making him believe it would only be sent to awards. As per the interview, he said, 'I was told the version containing expletives would be sent only for awards. However, they went ahead and released that version.'
'They should have contacted me and informed the matter as an act of courtesy before the OTT release. A case was even filed against me because of the foul language used in the film,' Joju added.
About Churuli
For those unclear, Churuli is a sci-fi mystery horror movie, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The film tells the story of two undercover police officers who travel to a village to investigate a suspected criminal hiding there.
However, as they enter the village, the eerie change, the people residing there, and the events that unfold lead them to become stuck inside the village, questioning everything around them.
Churuli is based on the short story "Kaligeminarile Kuttavalikal" from the book "Mullaranjanam". The story written by Vinoy Thomas premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala on February 11, 2021.
Following its release, the film was met with mixed to positive reviews, particularly drawing attention to the rampant use of curse words in Malayalam.
Churuli features Vinay Forrt and Chemban Vinod Jose in lead roles, with actors Joju George, Soubin Shahir, Sajin Gopu, Lukman Avaran, and more in key roles. On a side note, the film, currently streaming on SonyLIV, is said to have been wrapped up filming in just 19 days.
Coming to Joju George's work front, the Iratta actor was last seen in a key role for Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life. The Mani Ratnam directorial gangster actioner, featuring Simbu and Trisha in supporting roles, was recently met with negative reviews upon its release.

Cheating case: Need to interrogate actor Soubin Shahir in custody, police tell Kerala HC
Kochi: The police have informed high court that actor Soubin Shahir, his father Babu Shahir and Shawn Antony, all three accused in the alleged financial cheating case related to the production of the hit Malayalam film Manjummel Boys, must necessarily be interrogated in police custody. The investigating officer, Maradu police station house officer Rajesh R, made this submission in response to the anticipatory bail pleas filed by the accused. The SHO added that custodial interrogation was essential to ascertain the details regarding the collection and expenditure related to the film. The case originates from a complaint filed by Siraj Valiyathara of Aroor before the magistrate court, Ernakulam, alleging that Parava Films LLP, owned by the accused, had solicited his investment for the production of Manjummel Boys. As per an agreement dated Nov 30, 2022, he had invested a total of Rs 7 crore through multiple transactions. Despite the film's commercial success, the petitioners allegedly failed to honour the profit-sharing agreement. In its report, the police vehemently opposed the pre-arrest bail pleas, contending that the investigation so far revealed a deliberate attempt by the accused to cheat the complainant. It was alleged that although the film grossed Rs 286 crore, the accused failed to pay Siraj his rightful profit share amounting to Rs 40 crore. According to police, the accused paid Siraj only Rs 5.99 crore, and that too only after HC, relying on the police report indicating commission of a cognizable offence, issued a directive in that regard. Previously, in May 2024, the court had stayed the investigation upon petitions filed by the accused. However, on May 22, 2025, the court dismissed those petitions, thereby allowing the investigation to resume. Film producer moves Kerala HC for censor certificate
The producer firm of Malayalam film JSK – Janaki vs State of Kerala has approached the Kerala High Court alleging delay by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in issuing a censor certificate for the film. It thus sought a directive to the CBFC to process and issue the censor certificate in a time bound manner. The application was submitted on June 12, fulfilling all statutory requirements. But the CBFC had not issued the certificate or raised any formal objection, allegedly due to informal and oral objections regarding the film's title and character name 'Janaki', despite having earlier issued a censor certificate for the teaser of the same film. This delay was arbitrary and amounted to violation of the petitioner's fundamental rights under Article 19 of the Constitution, the firm said in its petition. The worldwide release of the film was scheduled for June 27 and any further delay in issuing the certificate would cause irreparable financial and reputation loss, it said.
