Top civil, military leaders honoured
The awards recognized outstanding contributions to national service, defense, and diplomacy, with recipients spanning the government, armed forces, and diplomatic corps.
Several senior political leaders were conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan's highest civilian honours.
Recipients included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Atta Tarar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
Pakistan's military leadership was also decorated for their services. Field Marshal Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu received the Hilal-e-Jurat, while Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf were awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military).
Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz, Rear Admiral Abdul Muneeb, and Rear Admiral Faisal Amin were also honoured with awards. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Ehsanul Haq received honours for his service.
ISI Director General Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik was also honoured with the Sitara-e-Basalat for his exceptional contributions, as was ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry with the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military). Military Operations DG Maj Gen Kashif Abdullah was also felicitated with an honour.
Members of the diplomatic delegation formed by the prime minister were presented the Hilal-e-Imtiaz for their contributions to foreign relations. These recipients included Tariq Fatemi, Senator Bushra Anjum, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Faisal Sabzwari, Hina Rabbani Khar, Khurram Dastgir Khan, Jalil Abbas Jilani, federal minister Ahad Cheema, and Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan.
Several Pakistan Air Force officers received gallantry awards. Wing Commander Bilal Raza, Wing Commander Hammad Ibne Masood, Squadron Leaders Muhammad Yousuf Khan, Muhammad Osama Ashfaq, Muhammad Hassan Anis, and Talal Hassan were awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat.
Squadron Leaders Fida Muhammad Khan and Muhammad Ashab were presented the Sitara-e-Jurat, while Lance Havaldar Aamir Sheraz and Lance Naik Ikramullah were posthumously honoured with the Tamgha-e-Jurat.
Sepoy Adeel Akbar has been posthumously awarded the Tamgha-e-Jurat, Captain Ali Hassan was also awarded the Tamgha-e-Jurat, Sepoy Nisar Ali Shaheed was posthumously awarded the Sitara-e-Basalat.
Lt Gen Noman Zakaria, Lt Gen Syed Aamir Raza, Lt Gen Shahid Imtiaz. Moreover, Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (retd) was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military).
Other awardees included Prime Minister's Speechwriter Rashid Mahmood Malik was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, as were Rescue 1122 Punjab DG Dr Rizwan Nazir, Sheikhupura Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth, Sheikhupura District Police Officer (DPO) Bilal Zafar Sheikh, Neelam Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Janjua, Bahawalpur DPO Hassan Iqbal, Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rai Babar Saeed, Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Farhan Farooq, Poonch Commissioner Masoodur Rehman, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Imtiaz Gora, and Punjab Home Secretary Capt Noorul Amin.
Principal Information Officer Mubashir Hassan Information and Broadcasting Secretary Ambreen Jan and Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch were also awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

SBP issues Rs75 commemorative coin to celebrate Marka-e-Haq, Independence Day
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) issued on Friday a commemorative coin of Rs75 to celebrate Marka-e-Haq - a military campaign against India in May - and the country's Independence Day. 'To honor the valor of our armed forces during the Marka-e-Haq and to celebrate Independence Day with due dignity, the federal government is pleased to issue a commemorative coin of Rs75 denomination,' SBP statement read. How Pakistan shot down India's cutting-edge fighter using Chinese gear Marka-e-Haq is the official name given to the broader conflict with India from July 22 to May 10 this year, while Bunyanum Marsoos is the name given to the operation on May 10. The metal composition, shape, and dimensions of the coin are: Metal composition: Nickel-Brass, Cu 79%, Zn 20% & Ni 1% Dimension: 30.0 mm Weight: 13.5 grams Obverse On the obverse side of the coin, the waxing crescent moon and five-pointed star facing North-West in rising position is in the center. Alongwith periphery on the top of the crescent star is inscribed in wording 'ISLAMI JAMHURIA PAKISTAN' in Urdu script. Below the crescent and on the top of two springs of wheat with arms curved upward, there is the year of issuance 2025. The face value of coin in numeral '75' in bold letters and RUPIA in Urdu script are written on the right and left sides of the crescent star respectively, according to the SBP statement. Reverse On the reverse side of the coin, wordings 'MARKA-E-HAQ' in Urdu script and '2025' in numeral are inscribed in the center. The wordings 'PAKISTAN HAMESHA ZINDABAD' in Urdu script is written alongwith the periphery on the top side of the coin. Two Fighter Aircrafts (shown on right & left sides of the coin), one Naval Ship and one Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS) are shown on the reverse side of the coin. 'The coin shall be issued through the exchange counters of all the field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation from August 15, 2025,' the central bank said.

Shaza announces Pakistan's digital transformation roadmap
ISLAMABAD: On Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced a digital transformation roadmap under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Digital Nation Pakistan vision, pledging to turn the country into a self-reliant, technology-driven economy. The minister, addressing a high-profile ceremony of leaders from government, industry, startups, and academia, paid tribute to Marka-e-Haq — Pakistan's victory over India in May — calling it a historic moment that demonstrated national courage, professionalism, and technological capability. She lauded the Armed Forces, particularly COAS Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for their leadership, dedication, and sacrifices in steering both the nation's defence and its technological advancement. Highlighting Pakistan's global recognition, Khawaja noted that the country achieved Tier-1 'Role Modelling' status in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index and climbed 14 ranks in the UN E-Government Development Index to enter the High EGDI category for the first time. She celebrated progress in digital inclusion, revealing that as per the 2025 GSMA Gender Gap Report, the mobile internet gender gap had reduced from 38 per cent to 25 per cent, with eight million women coming online in FY 2024-25. Women's mobile internet usage nearly doubled from 10 per cent to 19 per cent, meeting the personal target she set upon assuming office. Khawaja outlined the future roadmap under Digital Nation Pakistan, focusing on youth empowerment, improved governance, industry facilitation, and building a robust Digital Public Infrastructure. Key initiatives include: National AI Policy 2025 to promote ethical AI innovation and economic growth; National Fiberisation Initiative to expand high-speed internet access nationwide; IMT Spectrum Auction to ensure 5G readiness, attract foreign investment, and boost telecom growth; Satellite Internet Services for universal connectivity; Uninterrupted Internet Policy for IT Companies to ensure reliable, high-quality connections for IT exports; DigiSkills 3.0 to train over 3.3 million IT professionals in three years, including 300,000 via Huawei and 200,000 via Google. She linked the spirit of independence to digital sovereignty, stating that true freedom in the modern era means self-reliance in technology, innovation, and governance. Nation honours war heroes on I-Day

PHOTOS: NNI /INP The nation celebrated Independence Day across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Thursday with national zeal, enthusiasm, and a renewed pledge to uphold the spirit of the Pakistan Movement and build the country into a true welfare state. This year's celebrations also marked Pakistan's victory over India in the Marka-e-Haq in May. On the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred awards on military commanders and officials in recognition of their services during the four-day conflict. The day dawned with 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in each of the four provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for peace, solidarity, and prosperity of the country. The main flag hoisting ceremony was held at Pakistan Monument where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hoisted the national flag. Similar ceremonies were held in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and other big and small cities and towns. In a message, President Zardari said that nation celebrated the Independence Day with a sense of renewed pride and hope as recently the nation had reaffirmed its strength, resolve, and unity in the face of external aggression. "Our success in Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos is a landmark moment in our history. It was a demonstration of unshakable national will, professional excellence, and united purpose," the president said. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his sincere invitation to all political parties and segments of the society to join hands with them in strengthening their resolve to safeguard the national interests. "In this way, we can collectively make our nation successful and prosper to help realise the dream of our forefathers and martyrs, which they had envisioned in the form of establishment of Pakistan." Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Khan Tessori paid a visit to the mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the Independence Day Marka-e-Haq celebrations. An impressive change of guard ceremony was held at mausoleum of 'Muffakir-e-Pakistan' Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Acting Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also visited Iqbal's mausoleum, laid a wreath and offered Fateha. A dignified flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Governor House, Peshawar, on the occasion of Pakistan's Independence Day, with Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi performing the flag hoisting. In Balochistan, flag hoisting ceremony was held in Quetta where Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti along with Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai hoisted the National Flag. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq hoisted the flag at a ceremony in Muzaffarabad. The main event in Gilgit Baltistan took place at Chinar Bagh, where Gilgit-Baltistan Minister for Home Affairs Shams Lone hoisted the national flag, laid floral wreaths at the Martyrs' Monument and offered Fateha. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, were conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, and DG ISI Lt Gen Asim Malik was awarded the Sitara-e-Basalat. Director General Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan Major General Kashif Abdullah, Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed, and Rear Admiral Shahzad Hamid received the Tamgha-e-Basalat. Among the political leadership, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Head of Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and the PM's adviser Rana Sanaullah were presented Nishan-e-Imtiaz. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, ministers and parliamentarians Ahsan Iqbal, Sherry Rehman, Faisal Sabzwari, Musadik Malik, and Hina Rabbani Khar, along with Tariq Fatemi and Khurram Dastgir Khan, were also decorated with top civil awards. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar received Nishan-e-Imtiaz for effectively projecting Pakistan's national narrative internationally during the escalation, countering Indian propaganda and ensuring a coordinated civil-military information strategy. The president conferred military awards on officers, soldiers of armed forces for their conspicuous courage and supreme sacrifice rendered during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. The military awards included eight Sitara-i-Jurat, five Tamgha-i-Jurat, 24 Sitara-i-Basalat, 45 Tamgha-i-Basalat, 146 Imtiazi Asnad, 259 COAS Commendation Cards and one Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Military), said a news release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
