The Citizen25-06-2025
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of two Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers who were ambushed and killed in Thembisa earlier this month.
The 37-year-old foreign national was apprehended on June 24 during a coordinated operation involving the EMPD Northern Region Task Team, SAPS District Crime Intelligence, and the Hawks.
The suspect was traced to RTJ Namane Drive in the Teanong Section of Thembisa and is currently detained at Thembisa South SAPS.

According to EMPD media liaison officer Thabiso Makgatho, the joint operation focused on locating and arresting the second suspect believed to have played a role in the fatal shooting of Constables Thabang Piet Maluleke and Kagiso Francis Motshabi.
The officers were killed on June 12 while reporting for night duty in the Umthambeka Section. The attackers shot and robbed them of their service pistols before fleeing the scene.

'The suspect was charged with murder, robbery, and contravention of Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002).
'He was informed of his constitutional rights and detained free from physical injuries,' said Makgatho.
This arrest follows the first breakthrough in the case on June 20, when the same multi-agency task team apprehended another 37-year-old foreign national.
Although both suspects are now in custody, the investigation remains active.
Authorities have confirmed that one of the service pistols belonging to the slain officers is still missing.

Ten SAPS, EMPD officers in court for fraud and corruption

Ten South African Police Service and Ekurhuleni metropolitan police officers were arrested while on duty on Monday for their alleged role in corruption and fraud. They are expected to appear in the Germiston magistrate's court on Tuesday. 'It is alleged that on June 4 during a multidisciplinary operation by law enforcement, the accused officers raided a shop in Edenvale where they seized cigarettes and took R35,000 in cash and three packs of headache tablets to the value of about R5,000,' Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson Lizzy Suping said. The nine constables and a sergeant arrested the cashier for trading in illicit cigarettes and another employee for violating immigration laws. 'It is also alleged that the accused officers failed to record all the merchandise seized from the shop at the police station. The shop manager disputed the quantity and type of merchandise booked in the occurrence book to the station commander.' TimesLIVE

Pig farmer Zackariah Olivier, his co-accused Rudolph de Wet, and Zimbabwean national William Musoro returned to the Polokwane High Court on Monday. Trial National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi said the murder case was postponed to Thursday, 07 August 2025, to afford legal representatives an opportunity to consult and prepare for trial. 'The trial will commence on Monday, 11 August 2025. Accused number three (William Musora) has been moved out from the previous attorneys. Now he is going to be represented by Legal Aid South Africa.'
