Last motorbike Dave Myers rode makes thousands for charity

Yahoo27-03-2025

The last motorbike Dave Myers rode has raised thousands for charities at auction.
'The Hairy Bikers' star died in February 2024 aged 66, following a two-year cancer battle, and the 2023 BSA Gold Star he used in his last series for the cooking and motorcycling TV show - which also starred Si King - sold for £15,800 after it went under the hammer at H+H Classics in Solihull, West Midlands.
Money raised from the auction will be going to CancerCare, NSPCC Childline and The Institute of Cancer Research - all of which were "close to Dave's heart".
Dave's 58-year-old wife and widow Liliana is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I'm delighted that Dave's bike has found a new home and raised proceeds for charities close to Dave's heart.
"It's a special motorbike with some special memories, and I hope the new owner will love riding it as much as Dave did."
According to BBC News, the motorbike - of which type was first produced in 1938 - was on display at the National Motorcycle Museum, alongside the late star's riding uniform.
Jason Woodcock - the organiser of the annual Dave Day event, which began in 2024 and saw £127,000 be raised for charity by the biking community as they travelled from London to Barrow in memory of the TV presenter - hopes the motorbike's new owner will ride next to him at a future event.
He told BBC News: "Whoever you are if you bought that bike, I expect you to be riding next to me on Dave Day."
Liliana - who is a hypnotist - admitted in February 2025 that she still found Dave's loss "challenging and painful" - but she still feels him protecting her from above.
Liliana - who has penned the book 'Dave and Me - Life With and Without My Hairy Biker' - told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Loss is hard.
"Having to learn how to live with it is challenging and painful at times.
"He's been with me every day all along this year, I could feel his presence very clear.
"Some days I felt protected by an invisible force, other days I felt his hand on my shoulder.
"I've been guided by him to do things I never thought I would do."

According to the commercialized Mother's Day we know and celebrate in the U.S. today began in 1908, but its origins can be traced back to the mid-1800s. 'The 'Mother's Day' we celebrate today originates in the peace-and-reconciliation campaigns of the post-Civil War era. During the 1860s, at the urging of activist Ann Reeves Jarvis, one divided West Virginia town celebrated 'Mother's Work Days' that brought together the mothers of Confederate and Union soldiers …' says. 'In 1909, 45 states observed the day, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson approved a resolution that made the second Sunday in May a holiday in honor of 'that tender, gentle army, the mothers of America.'' But Father's Day took a little longer to get off the ground due to gender norms. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac and Lawrence R. Samuel, author of 'American Fatherhood: A Cultural History," 'Men had a different role in the family during the first half of that century. It was patriarchal, so they felt that a special day to exalt fatherhood was a rather silly idea when it was mothers who were underappreciated.' It wasn't until 1972, under President Richard Nixon, that Congress passed an act officially making Father's Day a national holiday. But the first Father's Day celebration can be traced back to 1908, around the same time Mother's Day kicked off in the U.S. 'The first known Father's Day service occurred in Fairmont, West Virginia, on July 5, 1908, after hundreds of men died in the worst mining accident in U.S. history,' the Old Farmer's Almanac says. But the observance didn't become an annual or nationally observed event. A year later, Sonora Smart Dodd, a 27-year-old from Spokane, Washington, was inspired by Mother's Day and came up with the idea of setting aside a day in June to celebrate dads. 'She proposed June 5, her father's birthday, but the ministers chose the third Sunday in June so that they would have more time after Mother's Day (the second Sunday in May) to prepare their sermons,' the almanac says. 'On June 19, 1910, the first Father's Day events commenced: Sonora delivered presents to handicapped fathers, boys from the YMCA decorated their lapels with fresh-cut roses (red for living fathers, white for the deceased), and the city's ministers devoted their homilies to fatherhood.' The first bill to make Father's Day a holiday was presented to Congress just a few years later in 1913, but didn't pass. Eight years later, President Calvin Coolidge signed a resolution in favor of establishing Father's Day. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed an executive order dictating that the holiday would be celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In 1972, Congress approved an act to make it a national holiday under Nixon. This article originally appeared on Fort Myers News-Press: Father's Day 2025 is coming. Fresh off a two-night stint headlining at Brazil's Best of Blues and Rock Festival, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have returned stateside. Starting June 11, the 'Ants Marching' rockers resume their summer 2025 tour that will send them to stadiums, arenas, amphitheaters, performing arts centers and pavilions all over North America from June through August. Gogglebox's Malone family announces heartbreaking death of beloved dog

The Malone family, Gogglebox's fan favourites, have announced a heartbreaking death. Father Tom Sr, mother Julie, and youngest son Shaun made their first appearence on the Channel 4 show back in 2014 during its fourth season. Their other son, Tom Jr quit in 2021 while the rest of his family continued without him. The Manchester based family and their gang of Rottweiler dogs quickly won over fans with their humorous observations on the day's current TV shows. However, the family has recently shared some sad news with Shaun announcing on Instagram that their beloved pooch Bob has passed away. Accompanied by touching clips and pictures of the dog, he wrote: 'Today is the day we had to say goodbye to big Bob, an absolutely great dog like a big cuddly bear.' In the meantime, Julie also paid her tribute by sharing several pictures of Bob, writing: 'We are heartbroken, RIP our beautiful Big Bob xx.' Fan response has been huge, with many sending their love and support. 'The bigger the dog, the bigger the hole in your heart that they leave,' said one person. 'He was such a legend! So sorry for the whole family loss,' added a second fan. 'So sorry to hear this he will be reunited with the big Dave,' wrote a third. Meanwhile, a fourth remarked: 'Run free over the rainbow bridge Bob.' This follows the passing of their family dog Dave back in 2023. At that time sharing the news on their Twitter/X account they wrote: 'There are no words to describe the pain we are feeling or how much we loved you, Dave. 'You helped everyone see the true nature of Rotties. We were blessed to have you for 12 and a half years xx.' They had already gone through the loss of another Rottweiler, Lucy in 2022 and another Rottweiler, Izzey, in 2021. As big Rottweiler lovers, three years ago they adopted Tilly, the newest addition to their family. The family has a third son, named Lee, and a daughter, Vanessa, both of whom have never appeared on Gogglebox.
