Police Officer Killed in Shooting Near CDC Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia

Rana Atef A police officer was killed while responding to a shooting near the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Emory University in Atlanta on Saturday, an incident that has reignited calls to address gun violence and firearm accessibility in the United States. According to NBC News, shots were fired at CDC buildings located near the agency's main campus. Atlanta Police Chief stated that officers heard gunfire inside one of the CDC facilities and entered to locate the shooter. The responding officer later died from his injuries. Investigations revealed that the suspected gunman was found on the second floor of one of the CDC buildings and died at the scene from a gunshot wound. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the fatal injury was self-inflicted or the result of police fire. Police reported multiple bullet impacts on CDC buildings. While the motive remains unclear, investigators believe the assailant may have targeted law enforcement or the facility itself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe, with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens noting that it is still too early to determine whether the CDC was an intended target. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Putin to Be 1st Russian Leader to Visit Alaska

Rana Atef Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a historical move, as he will be the first Russian leader to visit the US state of Alaska. Putin's upcoming trip will mark an unprecedented moment in relations between the two nations, as no Russian or Soviet leader has ever set foot in the state. During the Soviet era, leaders including Nikita Khrushchev, Alexei Kosygin, and Leonid Brezhnev visited the United States, while Mikhail Gorbachev made three trips and Boris Yeltsin five. In later years, former president Dmitry Medvedev toured Hawaii, New York, and Pittsburgh, while Putin himself has previously visited New York, Texas, Maryland, Georgia, and Maine — but never Alaska. On Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced he will meet Putin on August 15 in Alaska, as part of efforts to mediate an end to the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin confirmed the date and location, as reported by Russia's Sputnik news agency. The last visit by a Russian president to the United States took place a decade ago, in September 2015. Historically, Alaska was sold by Imperial Russia to the United States in 1867 for $7.2 million. It became the 49th U.S. state on January 3, 1959. Geographically, it is separated from the mainland United States, positioned northwest of Canada and divided from Russian territory by the Bering Strait. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Wildfire South of Athens Leaves at Least 1 Dead, Dozens Evacuated

Rana Atef For a second consecutive day, hundreds of firefighters are battling a major wildfire near Athens, Greece, which has claimed one life and raised fears of further spread due to powerful winds. According to Greek authorities, more than 260 firefighters, 80 fire engines, and 12 aircraft have been deployed to control the blaze in Keratea, around 43 km southeast of Athens. While the fire has partially subsided, several active hotspots remain. Dozens of residents and a care home for older people were evacuated as flames approached the coastal resort of Palaia Fokaia. Authorities confirmed the discovery of an older man's body in a hut near Keratea, as reported by French daily Le Figaro. In a separate incident, two Vietnamese tourists, aged 61 and 65, drowned off the island of Milos in the Aegean Sea after being swept away by strong currents. A port police official said the woman fell into the water, and the man appeared to have jumped in to rescue her. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service has forecast winds reaching up to 74 km/h today, Saturday, heightening the risk in wildfire-affected areas. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
