Abdulla Al Hamed meets with media leaders in preparation for "Bridge Summit" in New York

NEW YORK (WAM)Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office, and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, held a series of bilateral meetings in New York with several media and academic institutions, companies, and leaders.These meetings come in the context of preparations for the 'Bridge Summit', scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi this December, and aim to strengthen international partnerships and expand cooperation with global institutions, enriching the summit's content and reinforcing its role as a premier platform for media dialogue.The discussions included fruitful exchanges on forming an ambitious vision to enhance the professional sustainability of media institutions in the era of artificial intelligence. They also touched on the creation of innovative media work models aligned with evolving audience behaviours.Abdulla Al Hamed emphasised that the UAE's media vision stems from a deep belief in the media's role as a key partner in sustainable development and as a tool for building bridges between cultures. He stressed the importance of establishing strategic partnerships that support the development of an advanced media model in line with global transformations.He added: 'We believe that media is a soft power that shapes awareness and builds bridges between peoples and cultures. From this perspective, we are committed to forging partnerships with global media, technology, and educational institutions to transfer knowledge and localise best practices, enhancing our media's readiness for a fast-paced and complex future.'Al Hamed reaffirmed the continued effort to establish an advanced media model through the Bridge Summit, one built on innovation, cross-sector integration, and the empowerment of young talent. Imge courtesy: WAM The UAE and Kuwait signed a series of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on Monday, aimed at deepening cooperation across strategic sectors including health, energy, education, and defence, during an official visit by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, state news agency, WAM reported. The signing ceremony, held at Bayan Palace in the presence of Sheikh Mansour and Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, underscores the two Gulf nations' intent to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties amid evolving regional dynamics. The agreements span a wide range of areas, with key MoUs covering healthcare, infrastructure, investment, social development, energy transition, and AI, as both countries pursue mutual development priorities and enhanced regional integration. UAE-Kuwait agreements signed According to the WAM report, the key deals signed cover sectors such as: Health: MoUs were signed between the UAE and Kuwait's health ministries to boost collaboration in medical services and public health policy. Education: Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in the education sector through a pact signed by their respective ministers of education. Energy and infrastructure: MoUs included commitments to collaborate in land transport, roads, oil and gas, and future energy initiatives such as water and electricity. Technology and industry: A separate agreement focused on industry and advanced technology was signed to support innovation and knowledge exchange. Humanitarian and legal affairs: Joint frameworks were agreed to address human trafficking and legal cooperation, reflecting a shared focus on rights and rule of law. Investment: The UAE's Minister of Investment and the head of Kuwait's Direct Investment Promotion Authority signed an MoU to promote bilateral investment flows. Security and data: Ministries of Interior from both sides inked an MoU on data protection and joint security information-sharing projects. AI partnership initiated, naval contract with EDGE The Kuwait Investment Authority joined the 'Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership' initiative, which includes global partners MGX, BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Microsoft — adding regional backing to the tech-driven project. In a separate defence agreement, Kuwait's Ministry of Defence signed a contract with UAE-based EDGE Group for the procurement of several 'Falaj 3' class missile boats, highlighting deepening defence industry ties between the two states. Representing the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and one of the highest-value naval export deals globally, the agreement positions EDGE as the prime contractor overseeing the design, construction, trials, delivery, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and In-Service Support (ISS) for the vessels. EDGE will also supply ammunition, highlighting its end-to-end defence capabilities. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE's naval arm and the UAE's premier shipbuilder, has been appointed as the build subcontractor. UAE, Ireland issue joint statement on cooperation on criminal justice matters
4 June 2025 21:42 ABU DHABI (WAM) Abdullah bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Justice, and Jim O'Callaghan, T.D., Irish Minister for Justice, held a phone call on May 31, 2025 following the extradition of an Irish national accused of murder and involvement in a criminal organisation, pursuant to a decision issued by the Dubai Court of Cassation. The ministers emphasised that the extradition underscores a firm and ongoing joint commitment to upholding the rule of law and fostering international cooperation. It reflects the strong relationship between the UAE and Ireland, the continued collaboration in the pursuit of international justice, and a shared determination to ensure that justice is served. The ministers stated, 'This positive development is further evidence of the excellent criminal justice cooperation between the governments of the UAE and Ireland, and highlights our joint dedication to ensuring that criminal prosecutions may be brought against those who attempt to evade justice.'Furthermore, both ministers commended the Dubai Police and An Garda Síochána, the Irish national police service, for their ongoing engagement and commitment to enhancing police-to-police cooperation, recognising their vital role in joint efforts to combat the global threat of organised two sides emphasised the importance of continued collaboration and joint initiatives between their respective police agencies to promote security, uphold the rule of law, and safeguard justice across borders. UN condemns Israel's "deliberate choices" of systemically depriving Palestinians of essentials
4 June 2025 22:04 NEW YORK (WAM)The UN's humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, stated on Wednesday that the "horrifying scenes" of Palestinians being killed while attempting to access food aid are a direct consequence of "deliberate choices" to deny them essential emphasised, "The world is watching, day after day, horrifying scenes of Palestinians being shot, wounded or killed in Gaza while simply trying to eat."'We must be allowed to do our jobs: we have the teams, the plan, the supplies and the experience,' said Fletcher. He added, "Open the crossings – all of them. Let in life-saving aid at scale, from all directions. Lift the restrictions on what and how much aid we can bring in. Ensure our convoys aren't held up by delays and denials. Release the hostages. Implement the ceasefire."
