PGTI kicks off today in Ludhiana: 72 players vie for ₹20-lakh prize
The fifth event of the 2025 Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) season will be played at the Imperial Golf Estate in Ludhiana from June 17 to 19. The tournament offers a prize purse of ₹20 lakh and marks the debut of professional golf and the PGTI in Ludhiana. The event will be played over three rounds (54 holes) with the cut being applied after two rounds (36 holes). The top 36 players and ties will make the cut for the third and final round. The tournament features a field of 72 players. The field will feature leading professional golfers from across India. The PGTI Order of Merit is currently being led by Rajesh Kumar Gautam of Lucknow who has a season's earnings of ₹4,29,600. The winner of this year's Order of Merit will earn an exemption on the main tour (PGTI) for the 2026 season. Amandeep Johl, CEO, PGTI, said, 'We are delighted to explore new territory this week as the PGTI makes its debut at The Imperial Golf Estate in Ludhiana. This initiative is part of our larger objective of growing the game across the country. Staging events in tier two cities will help us in further expanding the talent pool for golf and also create a wider audience and fan-base for the game.' Johl said that Punjab has been a powerhouse of Indian sport, and they would like to use this opportunity to tap into the golfing potential of the state. Chennai Open returns to WTA calendar after three years
ANI 17 Jun 2025, 01:08 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): The Chennai Open tennis tournament is set to return this October after a three-year hiatus, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) announced on Monday, as per The tournament's schedule was announced during an event in St Petersburg, USA. Action in the main draw of Chennai Open 2025 is set to get underway from the week of October 27 on outdoor hard courts. The tournament will conclude on November 2. 'Finally, our efforts to get a major international tennis event to Chennai have borne fruit. Thanks to the strong support of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the SDAT (Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu),' Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) president and Indian tennis great Vijay Amritraj said, as quoted by 'The event will be broadcast on a major sports channel. I look forward to enthusiastic participation of the sporting public of Chennai in making the event a grand success,' he added. There will be 32 players participating in the singles draw and 16 pairs will make up the doubles section. The SDAT Nungambakkam tennis stadium in Chennai will be the venue for all matches with the eventual winners set to receive 250 ranking points that are awarded for winning the tournament. The WTA 250 event was last held in 2022 when Czechia's Linda Fruhvirtova claimed the singles title, while Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski and Brazil's Luisa Stefani took home the doubles crown. The upcoming Chennai Open will mark only the second edition of the professional women's tennis tournament. Ankita Raina, one of India's top women's tennis players, received a wildcard entry in 2022 when the Chennai Open was last held. (ANI)

Dream League of India strategist meets TCAI officials in Gwalior, discusses future pathway
Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 16 (ANI): Chetanya Nanda, the Chief Strategist of the Dream League of India (DLI), met with the Tennis Cricket Association of India (TCAI) Gwalior district general secretary to discuss the league's expansion and the upcoming season. The meeting also reviewed the recently concluded Tennis Cricket Federation Cup in Panipat. Launched by Servotech Sports in May 2025, the Dream League of India is India's first-of-its-kind national-level tennis ball cricket league, aimed at creating a structured, competitive ecosystem for grassroots tennis ball cricket across the country. Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, DLI Chief Strategist Chetanya Nanda said, ' Had a very productive meeting with Mr. Aved Khan regarding the recently held Federation Cup and our road map for Dream League of India. We are aligned in our vision of taking tennis cricket to greater heights.' The Federation Cup was organised by the Tennis Cricket Association of India (TCAI), a member body of the International Tennis Cricket Federation( ITCF). Players for the Indian team slated to feature in the International Tennis Cricket series (against Russia and Poland) were to be picked from the Federation Cup. The Dream League of India (DLI) will now carry that momentum forward. Players featuring in the tournament will get the chance to represent India in the Tennis Cricket Ball World Cup and the Asia Cup. Scouts will keep a close eye on the Dream League of India as the tournament will be played across the country and will form a basis for the selection of players to represent India in the Tennis Cricket Ball World Cup and Asia Cup. The Dream League of India will be for both juniors (13-18) and seniors (18+), with six franchises participating across both categories. To play in the Dream League of India, player can register themselves on the league's official website or Starzpit App for the nationwide open fair trials, conducted across multiple districts and centres under the supervision of over 1,500 certified coaches. The core objective of the Dream League of India is to identify and nurture high-potential grassroots talent within the tennis cricket community. Top-performing players will gain exposure to national and potentially international opportunities through affiliations with the International Tennis Cricket Federation (ITCF). For Dream League of India, 860 junior and 860 senior players will be shortlisted for the auction, where six franchises per category will select their squads. Players shortlisted from the fair trials will enter the Dream League of India auction. Top performers stand a chance to be scouted by the International Tennis Cricket Federation (ITCF) selectors to represent Team India in tennis cricket at the big stage. Moreover, unsold players in the Dream League India (DLI) auction will compete in the country's biggest Inter-Zonal Tournament(best performers will get a platinum card to qualify for season 2 of DLI), with zonal champions advancing to an All-Zonal Championship. The winning team will face the Season 1 Franchise Champion in the Season 2 opener, ensuring every player gets a pathway to recognition and national glory.
