‘What are they waiting for?' Missing Pamela Ling's family questions police silence, lack of Interpol alert

The family also asked when Malaysian police would alert the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) about her case.
Advertisement Speaking on behalf of Ling's family, their lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo noted that the police have no leads after recording the statements of 47 persons in its investigation on her April 9 disappearance. Sangeet said Ling's family had over the past six weeks provided information beyond what was requested, but that there was no feedback on investigations into the information given. Sangeet listed six questions to the police regarding the case, including whether the police had thoroughly questioned MACC officers. 'Have the PDRM determined the nature of information that Pamela was providing to MACC and who were interested parties? Have statements been taken from them?' she asked in a statement today. Sangeet said Ling's family was informed a few weeks ago that one of the cars seen on close circuit television (CCTV) footage was found abandoned near the Thai border, and that no updates have been given on forensic testing of items found in the car. 'Given the obvious possibility that she was taken across the border, the family was last informed (a few weeks ago) that Interpol had not yet been alerted,' she said, asking what the police are waiting for regarding alerting Interpol. She also asked if the police had complied with its own standard operating procedures (SOPs) in missing persons cases, and if it had asked for expert assistance if it required such aid. Hostage victim stabbed 20 times, survives thanks to implants

The incident occurred on May 22, when the victim, surnamed Ma, was ambushed after finishing her shopping. Advertisement The attacker demanded she pay for parking before forcing her at knifepoint to leave the mall with him. While the man was distracted, Ma discreetly sent her location to her boyfriend, who alerted local police. Police tracked the coordinates and rushed to the scene, but the attacker turned violent and stabbed her repeatedly in the chest. Ma collapsed inside her car after trying to fend off the attack and was later hospitalised with 20 stab wounds, one of which punctured her lung. Scammer harasses victim, family after foiling WhatsApp loan scam

KUCHING (June 16): A local man who managed to avert a scam attempt via WhatsApp recently is facing online harassment from the scammer, said Democratic Action Party Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen. The Stampin MP said the victim, who wished to be known only as Kenny, suspected that his phone had been hacked by the scammer during their exchange of WhatsApp messages. He said Kenny had received several WhatsApp calls and messages on June 2 from an unknown individual claiming to offer loans. 'After a few exchanges, Kenny realised that it was a scam and began to ignore the caller. However, the scammer somehow managed to obtain the contact details of everyone in Kenny's contact list. 'The caller not only continued to harass Kenny through his number, but also began calling, harassing and WhatsApp messaging Kenny's wife, parents, in-laws and his siblings,' Chong said in a statement today, after meeting the victim, who had sought his assistance to lodge a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Chong said the ongoing harassment has caused the victim a great deal of stress and embarrassment. He said Kenny was left with no choice but to lodge reports with both the police and MCMC, in hopes that authorities could track down the perpetrator and stop the harassment. 'The victim had never shared any relatives' contact details with the caller, yet they were all targeted,' he added. To make matters worse, the scammer allegedly posted Kenny's identity card on Facebook, along with false accusations. Chong, who is also Padungan assemblyman and a lawyer, said what the scammer's actions amount to online harassment and bullying. 'It could happen to anyone, and therefore it is crucial for the authorities to act swiftly and effectively. If not, anyone could fall victim to such acts,' he stressed.
