2025 The Everest: Sunshine In Paris to target this year's race as slot deal for Hong Kong's Ka Ying Rising draws closer
Sunshine In Paris is almost certain to stay in training and be aimed at the Group 1 $20 million The Everest next spring.
And an Everest deal for Hong Kong superstar Ka Ying Rising that will secure his place in the world's richest turf race is also imminent.
John Camilleri, owner of Sunshine In Paris, suggested his outstanding rising six-year-old mare will race on next season after her tough win in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 last Saturday.
'Sunshine In Paris is not heavily raced, I think she is up to start 17 so she has no 'miles' in her legs,'' Camilleri said.
'So, we are leaning towards another crack at The Everest and maybe the Melbourne Champions Sprint, a race she won last year.''
Sunshine In Paris, trained by Annabel and Rob Archibald, notched the third Group 1 win of her career when she wore down Rothfire to win the Doomben 10,000 in a thrilling finish.
Camilleri revealed winning rider James McDonald told him Sunshine In Paris 'hated' the heavy 8 track conditions at Doomben.
'But she still put in,'' the owner said. 'I thought 100m out she's not going to get there but she did which is testimony to how gutsy she is.''

Sunshine In Paris is nominated for the Group 1 $1 million Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on May 31 but Camilleri said the mare would be sent to the spelling paddock early this week.
Camillieri's Fairway Thoroughbreds holds an Everest slot and Sunshine In Paris will now be aimed at the rich Royal Randwick sprint on October 18.
Sunshine In Paris is currently at $26 in early TAB Fixed Odds betting for The Everest behind Ka Ying Rising at $1.90.
The only confirmed starters for The Everest – Private Harry (slot-holder Yulong) and Briasa (Max Whitby, Neil Werrett, Col Madden) – are $6 and $8 second and third favourite respectively.
Although Everest favourite Ka Ying Rising has not yet secured a slot it is understood an announcement is expected any day.
HE DOES IT AGAIN! 🚀

There is speculation the Hong Kong Jockey Club could purchase or lease an Everest slot of its own for a minimum three years and when that deal is signed, Ka Ying Rising will be locked in as a starter.
It makes sense for HKJC to become involved as a slot-holder as the club hosts the World Pool which will be betting on The Everest and Ka Ying Rising's presence in the Randwick sprint will generate considerable interest from Hong Kong punters.
Racing NSW late last week asked for expressions of interest to buy The Star's Everest slot while Australian Turf Club and TAB are other slot-holders who might consider selling or leasing their slot.
Ka Ying Rising, trained by expatriate David Hayes, has won 12 races in succession including the Group 1 Chairman's Sprint Prize at Sha Tin last start to improve his official rating to 126, up from 124.
This moves Ka Ying Rising alongside another Hong Kong champion, Romantic Warrior, on the official world rankings with the pair behind only Japan's Forever Young on 127.

Payten declares Maroons must pick star to win Origin
North Queensland coach Todd Payten says if Queensland want to win the second State of Origin match to level the series they need to start Tom Dearden in the halves. Dearden is favoured to replace veteran Maroons skipper Daly Cherry-Evans for the must-win match in Perth, with the Cowboys captain consistently delivering for his NRL team. Cherry-Evans, 36, failed to ignite the Queensland attack in game one in Brisbane, which NSW dominated to win 18-6. While Kiwi Test halfback Jahrome Hughes starred for Melbourne in their 38-14 victory over North Queensland at AAMI Park on Friday night, Dearden still impressed in the losing side. Payten was firm in his belief that the 24-year-old was ready to be picked to wear the No.7 jersey rather than have a bench role for the June 18 match. Dearden has already done the job for the Kangaroos, steering Australia to victory over Tonga in the Pacific Cup final last November, while he also impressed in the Maroons No.6 jumper in the absence of Cameron Munster last year. "You're asking the wrong person, I know he's ready, it's just not my decision," Payten said after the Storm match. "Selfishly, I'd love him to come off the bench, but if they want to win, I'd be putting him in the halves." Dearden downplayed the selection quandary for Queensland coach Billy Slater, saying he was only focused on the Cowboys. "I wasn't really looking at it as an audition," he said. "I thought like I probably could have been a lot better with helping us with direction and then handing the ball over in the right area, so there's probably a few areas I need to look at from that performance." Melbourne skipper Harry Grant, who had an uncharacteristically poor Origin outing after being hobbled by a hamstring injury, looked back to his best against North Queensland. "I had a pretty clear focus of what I needed to work on from that (Origin) game it sort of hurt not being able to play after that, against the Titans, and that was just precautionary with the hamstring," the hooker said. "I had a pretty narrow focus and it was pleasing to just get a win for the team and everyone sort of played their role within our game plan." His Storm teammate Stefano Utoikamanu also put his hand up to replace Mitch Barnett in the NSW squad, with the Warriors prop ruled out for the season with an ACL rupture. Utoikamanu and Keaon Koloamatangi are the favourites to take Barnett's spot with the Melbourne forward named 19th man in the Blues squad for game one when he was on stand-by for an injured Payne Haas. Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy, who is an advisor to the NSW coach Laurie Daley and will join the squad in Perth, said Utoikamanu had pushed his case for selection. "You think he'd be right up there in the firing line, I think he's a real big chance," Bellamy said. "He was really solid, and some of his runs really stood out and I'm sure Laurie will be looking at his defence as well and hopefully for Stef, he'll line up in the next game."

Ange Postecoglou sacked as Tottenham manager two weeks after Europa win
Ange Postecoglou has been sacked as manager of English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur, just two weeks after he delivered the north London club its first silverware in 17 years. It's understood the 59-year-old Australian has been informed he won't be at Spurs next season. Tottenham won last month's Europa League final, sparking wild celebrations among the club's long-suffering supporters and speculation Postecoglou may be spared. However, the club's disappointing EPL season — its worst ever — was too much for powerbrokers. Despite having one of the more expensive squads in the top flight of English football, Spurs finished 17th, just above the relegation zone. Postecoglou was the first Australian to manage in the Premier League. He spent two seasons at Tottenham, after signing a four-year contract. At a parade last month celebrating the Europa League win, Postecoglou told fans "season three is better than season two". He was born in Greece and moved to Melbourne with his family aged five.
