Crows star could be investigated over alleged comment
Late on Sunday night several media outlets reported that Rankine may be in trouble for an alleged comment to a Collingwood opponent during Saturday night's massive win.
That three-point success in front of a packed house at Adelaide Oval guaranteed the Crows will finish in the top two and secure a home qualifying final.
This will be the Crows' first finals appearance since they lost the 2017 grand final to Richmond. Their premierships were in 1997-98.
Rankine was among Adelaide's best against the Magpies, kicking a goal late in the second term that gave them the lead for the first time in the match.
If a league investigation was to find him guilty of misconduct and he was suspended, it would be a significant blow to Adelaide's finals campaign.
There was no official confirmation from the AFL or either club as of late Sunday night that there had been an alleged incident.
Adelaide will play North Melbourne next Saturday at Marvel Stadium, their last game before the finals.
Rankine, 25, has played 22 games this season for a career total of 105.
He is yet to play in a final, having started his AFL career with three seasons at Gold Coast before the Adelaide native was traded to the Crows after the 2022 season.

Luke Hodge calls for AFL rule change as Harley Reid set to sign $25 million deal
AFL great Luke Hodge has added his voice to calls for the league to place a cap on the maximum length of contracts that players can sign. And leading commentator Gerard Whateley says he "shudders" at what an 11-year deal for Harley Reid could do to a club. The AFL is reportedly considering introducing a maximum contract length in the next collective bargaining agreement (CBA), amid reports Reid wants an 11-year deal to remain at the Eagles. Reid's management have reportedly suggested a new two-year deal that would then trigger a nine-year extension, and the total deal is believed to be around the $25 million mark. A number of Victorian clubs are also believed to be willing to offer the same money. Sam Taylor, Connor Rozee, Aaron Naughton, and Mac Andrew are among a number of players on deals in excess of seven years, while Buddy Franklin famously signed a nine-year deal to join the Swans. Speaking on SEN radio on Monday, Whateley and fellow commentator Sam Edmund said they believe there shouldn't be a cap and clubs should face the consequences if a long-term deal doesn't work out. But Hodge disagreed, with the Hawthorn champion saying: 'I actually don't mind the capped length of a contract. If it was put in there, Melbourne wouldn't be in the position that they are with three similar blokes (Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kysaiah Pickett) with long-term deals that they can't move because they had the heavy money and long-term deals. 'I know that is pushing against the trend of you guys. But what we have seen in the past is people in football clubs make shocking decisions through desperation, and I don't think the future of that club should be held to ransom because of it.' 'They have put extra protection mechanisms if you'd like for those really big contracts that require whole of board approval and the like. I don't think it is something that is coming in the here and now. 'And I hate the whole idea of saving clubs from themselves. These are adults, these are professionals. They know what they are doing, and if they are prepared to take a risk, then they are prepared to take a risk. Live by the sword, die by the sword.' Gerard Whateley 'shudders' at thought of long Harley Reid deal Whateley pointed out that a big deal for Reid or anyone else might act as a "cautionary tale" by the time of the next CBA. 'It can't be until 2028 anyway (with) the collective bargaining agreement and how players feel there. I do think by then, we are going to have a few cautionary tales," he said. "But I shudder at the idea of doing an 11-year contract for Harley Reid. As what if after five years - if it doesn't turn - of misery at West Coast and he wants to get out, and he still has so long to go. The downside is tangible. And if you're a great player, you'll be fine doing five (years), then three and then four rather than doing 11 in one go and throwing yourself into the complete unknown.'

AFL takes action after Collingwood denied in controversial moment against Adelaide
The AFL will reportedly review a controversial non-call that went against Collingwood in their three-point loss to Adelaide on Saturday night. And reports have emerged that Crows player Izak Rankine could come under AFL investigation just a week out from the finals. Collingwood fans were left fuming over a number of calls that didn't go their way as they lost for the fourth time in their last five games. Crows star Isaac Cumming has admitted Ben Keays got away with a blatant throw when Cumming kicked a pivotal goal in the third quarter. And there was high controversy when Riley Thilthorpe wasn't pinged for kicking the ball away with less than a minute remaining in the game. With just seconds to play, Thilthorpe kicked the ball away well after the umpire's whistle had blown, and fans and commentators were left in disbelief he wasn't pinged for time-wasting. The clock was stopped after the ball went out of bounds, meaning there wasn't any time-wasting per se. But Thilthorpe's actions were technically in breach of the rules. On Sunday night, leading reporter Jon Ralph revealed the AFL will "look at" the incident in its weekly umpiring review. Whether it leads to any favourable outcomes for Collingwood is highly unlikely. Speaking in commentary at the time, Jason Dunstall said: 'How he (Thilthorpe) gets away with this … I don't know how all the umpires miss this. This is time-wasting. He's punched it out of bounds to start with, then he's looking at it and toes it off the ground. It's not by accident. There are umpires all around him and they don't pay it.' On 3AW radio, Matthew Richardson said: 'This was a case of the umpiring forgetting the rule." While on the AFL Footy Show, Damien Barrett added: "That is a free kick to Collingwood every day of the week." As for the Keays throw, Cumming said after the game: 'Oh my days it was a throw. I actually thought when he threw it to me mid-air I was like, 'Oh my god it's going to get called back'. But he disguised it pretty well, Keyser."
