Re-evaluation impact: Tirthahalli girl is now topper in Science stream

Deeksha R., a student from Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district of Karnataka, has secured 600/600 in II PUC in the Science stream after re-evaluation. Now, she is the topper in the Science stream in Karnataka.
In the Commerce stream, Prateeksha of ASC PU college, Rajajinagar in Bengaluru, improved her position from third to first after the re-evaluation. Now she shares first position with S. Deepashree of Canara College, Mangalore, with 599 for 600. Prateeksha had earlier secured 577, and in the re-evaluation, she got two more marks in English.
One more mark in chemistry
Deeksha, a student of Vagdevi PU College in Tirthahalli, had scored 599 out of 600 marks when the results were announced on April 8. She had scored 100 each in every subject except chemistry, in which she secured 99 marks. She was the joint topper in the science stream in Karnataka. She had applied for re-evaluation of the chemistry paper.
Ms. Mamatha, principal of the college, informed The Hindu on April 25 that after revaluation, her score in chemistry increased to 100. She had scored 69 out of 70 in the theory. After revaluation, the theory score increased to 70. Deeksha is the daughter of Raghavendra Kalkur M.V. and Usha V. who are teachers in government high schools in Tirthahalli.
As per the data released by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), a total of 5,800 students who applied for re-evaluation have seen changes in the marks, some got negative marking too. As many as 1,470 applicants have not seen any changes in their marks.
Blunders by teachers
The data revealed the blunders by teachers during the evaluation. In one case, a student who was awarded 04 in a first language in the original evaluation has secured 64 in re-evaluation. There are cases where students managed to get 50, 44, 30 and 20 additional marks in the re-evaluation.

To ensure inclusivity, district administrations are taking active steps to support students from last mile communities and cognitively unexposed population. Since the announcement of higher secondary public examination results, students and their parents have been deeply engrossed in the college admission process. Anish, a student from Nagercoil, who has applied for engineering counselling, says he aspires to pursue aeronautical engineering at one of the top colleges where he hopes to secure admission through the counselling process. Commenting on Anish's aspirations, his mother says she is willing to allow her son to study outside of the district. However, she hopes for good options within Kanniyakumari district for his preferred course. An administrative staff member from St. Xavier's Engineering College in Nagercoil says courses in computer science, electronics and communication engineering have regained momentum after a brief lull, as evident from the number of student enquiries. While interest in artificial intelligence and cyber security courses remains steady, traditional core branches such as mechanical, civil and electrical engineering have seen relatively fewer enquiries. According to C. Veerabahu, Principal, V.O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi, interest in core science subjects such as mathematics, physics and chemistry is seeing a slight decline over the past three to four years, while there has been a growing interest in humanities courses such as history, economics and English. Students prefer English language courses due to demand in content writing and its allied sectors. 'This year, we have introduced a new course in computer science programme with AI and Machine Learning, and the seats filled up within a short span of time, he says. Despite the introductions of new courses across every field, the demand for computer science and electronics and communication engineering still thrives in the engineering sector, says Zahariya Gabriel, an admission in-charge officer from Francis Xavier college in Tirunelveli. Many students from the coastal belts of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts still prefer electrical engineering courses, with an eye on employment opportunities in the shipping industry, he adds. Apart from the engineering courses and humanities streams, there is also growing curiosity among the students about allied health science courses. According to Anitha, a professor from Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education in Kumaracoil, says their institution is the only one in Kanniyakumari district offering audiology and speech language pathology, making it a consistently in-demand programme. Students from neighbouring States like Kerala are enrolling in the course. 'BA and BBA Aviation courses are highly sought after by students for admission,' she says. Although a significant number of the population is involved in enrolling their children in higher education courses, there are pockets of unaware marginalised people, who require greater exposure to government schemes such as Pudhumai Penn, Tamil Pudhalvan and Naan Mudhalvan, which significantly helps the students during their journey for higher education. The district administrations are actively engaged in the process, by organising career guidance programmes and other awareness campaigns. In Thoothukudi, these campaigns target coastal communities, conservancy workers and others aiming to improve higher education enrolment ratios across all sectors of society.

Walt Disney Shedding light on the mission that the film aims at, Toby adds, "For me, the mission of the film is to really reveal the ocean's many roles in our lives, that was as much a realisation for David Attenborough. The greatest message he's ever told is that we all wake up and see ourselves, even though we all live on land, we're all really marine creatures. We are tied to the ocean. And we need to understand it better because if we can protect it properly, we can live in a world where we not only survive but thrive on land. " Worst-Case-Scenarios If We Don't Protect Our Oceans But somewhere, consistency is lacking. Producer Enric shares insight on what are the worst-case scenarios that can harm the planet if we don't rectify our missteps right away. He says, "The worst case scenario is an ocean where there's going to be very little fish left in the ocean for people to feed. 3 billion people rely on the ocean for food. Let's talk about India, it is a country with an enormous population of small-scale fishers. The cost of the population depends heavily on fish. The ocean is a bleak feature for marine life and all the people that depend on it. And that's just one of the things that this documentary helps you absorb." Enric Sala adds, "1/4 of our carbon emissions depends on marine life. If there is less marine life, the ocean will lose that capacity. So we depend on the ocean for everything we need to survive. But starting with the case of India to make it local to you, the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of small scale features." David Attenborough's Vision David Attenborough, a fierce advocate of environmental preservation has unearthed the many shocking occurrences that are not above sea level for us. He shares his vision for the documentary, "My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. The Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka has released COMEDK Result 2025 scorecard on June 7, 2025. Candidates who have appeared for the common entrance test can check the results through the official website of COMEDK at The Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET–2025) was held on May 10 and May 25, 2025, in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The exam was held in three sessions: the morning session from 8.30 AM to 11.30 AM, the afternoon session from 1 PM to 4 PM, and the evening session from 5.30 PM to 8.30 PM. There were 180 questions in total. Of these, 60 questions each were asked from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. All those candidates who have appeared for the entrance exam can check the rank card and download it by following the steps given here. 1. Visit the official website of COMEDK at 2. Click on COMEDK Result 2025 scorecard link available on the home page. 3. A new page will open where candidates will have to enter the login details. 4. Click on submit and your rank card will be displayed. 5. Check the rank card and download it. 6. Keep a hard copy of the same for further need. The counselling registration process begins on June 9, 2025 from 4 pm onwards. The last date to apply is June 18, 2025 till 2 pm. The eligibility criteria for counselling process is that candidate should have passed the 2nd PUC / 12th Standard examination with English as one of the Languages and obtained a minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology /Biology / Electronics / Computer Science (40% for SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State only).
