No criminal charges filed against Dubois County Sheriff

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – The Daviess County Sheriff's Office says Orange County Special Prosecutor Holly Hudelson has decided to not file criminal charges against Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter.
Officials state it was determined Kleinhelter never took a trip to the country of Dubai for the World Police Summit and all money in the planning of the trip had been paid back to the county in full.
Officials also state after the State Board of Accounts completed their audit in the matter, Sheriff Kleinhelter conducted his own personal audit into the commissary fund of the Dubois County Jail and made sure any money above and beyond what the State Board of Accounts had flagged was also paid and accounted for within the fund.
'Sheriff Kleinhelter never had the intention to defraud Dubois County and always maintained he did not abuse his responsibilities as the elected Dubois County Sheriff and is happy to put this matter behind him,' the sheriff's office said.

DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Washington teen was killed following an auto-repair accident on Saturday night. According to the Daviess County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a call just after 9 p.m. of report of a male pinned under a vehicle near 2094 W 300 N in Washington. Upon arrival, authorities located a male pinned beneath a full-size Ford F350 truck. A nearby forklift was used to lift the vehicle to remove the victim from underneath. The victim was identified as 16-year-old Cooper Schuckman of Washington. The victim's family has been notified. Initial investigation determines Schuckman, and a friend were working on the vehicle that was jacked up on two air jacks. While attempting to remove a part from the vehicle, the weight shifted, and the vehicle fell off the jacks and onto the victim. The Daviess County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Daviess County Ambulance Service and the Daviess County Coroner's Office. WKU votes to extend contract of current president The Indiana House Republicans say House Enrolled Act 1041 ensures 'fair competition' by preventing biological males from competing in female categories at the collegiate level in Indiana. This legislation aligns with an executive order at the federal level signed by President Donald Trump and one at the state level signed by Governor Mike Braun, codifying the language into state law. HEA 1041 was signed into law by Gov. Braun on April 16. Evansville Flag Group and Otters to raise money for Marvin Gray tribute Legislators say Elle Patterson, a former San Jose State volleyball player, testified in support of HEA 1041 in both the House and Senate committee hearings. Man pleads guilty after 2024 traffic stop turned up drugs, stolen gun

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A Louisville man will spend time in prison following an agreement to plead guilty in relation to a traffic stop in 2024 that turned up drugs and a stolen gun. According to the Spencer County Prosecutor's Office, 38-year-old John Mooney plead guilty to Possession of Meth and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon among other charges. As previously reported, in early February 2024, Indiana State Police Troopers running stationary traffic on I-64 saw a black Honda Civic going in excess of 120 MPH. Mooney was the one discovered to be driving. Officials state upon catching up to the vehicle at the Nancy Hanks Rest Area, an investigation uncovered several items of contraband in the vehicle. Troopers discovered a stolen 9mm pistol and 623 grams of meth in a trash receptable of the woman's bathroom during a search of the rest area. The passenger was identified as 24-year-old Rita Delong of Louisville. Officials say she admitted to placing the stolen firearm and meth in the bathroom shortly before Troopers caught up. Mooney reportedly denied having knowledge or involvement in the items, but analysis later revealed Mooney's DNA was on numerous components of the firearm. Officials state under the plea agreement, Mooney agreed to be sentenced to 12 years with six being executed at the Indiana Department of Correction while the other six would be executed by continuing supervision. Delong had previously plead guilty in June 2024 to Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and Theft of a Firearm. She was sentenced to 17 1/2 years with four being executed at the IDOC, six tears on Community Corrections Work Release and 7 1/2 years of continuing supervision.
