INS Rana and INS Jyoti arrive in Colombo for ‘SLINEX-25'
Visakhapatnam: Indian Naval Ships INS Rana (a guided missile destroyer) and INS Jyoti (a fleet tanker) are participating in the 12th edition of Sri Lanka India Naval Exercise (SLINEX-25) scheduled till August 18. The SLINEX maritime exercise exemplifies the deep engagement between India and Sri Lanka, which has strengthened cooperation in the maritime domain in consonance with India's policy of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth across Regions (MAHASAGAR). Conceptualised in 2005, 'SLINEX', a bilateral naval exercise has strengthened maritime cooperation between the two nations over two decades. SLINEX aims at enhancing interoperability, maritime cooperation and exchanging best practices while jointly undertaking multi-faceted maritime operations. The previous edition of the SLINEX was conducted in Visakhapatnam last December. The exercise is conducted in two phases – the harbour phase in Colombo from August 14 to 16, followed by the sea phase slated from August 17 to 18. SLNS Gajabahu and Vijayabahu (both advanced offshore patrol vessels) will be representing the Sri Lankan Navy, while Special Forces of both the navies will also be featured in the bilateral exercise. During the harbour phase, professional interactions, subject matter expert exchange (SMEE), sharing of best practices, cultural and social exchanges along with yoga sessions and sporting events are included. They aim to further bolster the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between both the navies. Gunnery firing serials, communication protocols, navigation, seamanship evolutions, visit board search and seizure (VBSS) and fuelling at sea form a part of the naval drills during the sea phase.

Operation Sindoor makes way to Mathura Janmashtami celebration
Agency: PTI Mathura, Aug 16 (PTI) Operation Sindoor made its way to the Janmashtami celebration here, with the idol of Lord Krishna being placed in a 'sindoor' bungalow at the Keshavdev temple here. Priests say this is the 5252nd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. According to the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust secretary Kapil Sharma, Operation Sindoor gave people a glimpse of Krishna with the Sudarshan Chakra. 'Therefore, the full incarnation Lord Shri Krishna will also sit in the 'Sindoor' bungalow and give darshan," Sharma said. He said Thakurji, as is Krishna also called, will preside in the Bhagwat Bhawan built on a high mound at Katra Keshavdev, a part of the temple. 'Thakurji will give darshan in the silver-plated sanctum sanctorum in the 'Sindoor pushp' bungalow wearing a 'Meghadhenu' dress," Sharma said. The temple official said the devotees will be able to enter the temple premises from 5.30 am to 1.30 pm for the Janmabhishek Darshan. Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi, member of Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan, said the entire temple has been decked up, with its sanctum sanctorum, famous as Kansa's prison, filigreed with 221 kg of silver. At Vrindavan's Radha Raman temple, Janmashtami is celebrated in the morning. Dinesh Chandra Goswami, Sewayat of Sri Radha Raman temple in Vrindavan, said, 'The morning Janamasthami celebration is in line with the appearance of Lord Radha Ramanji, which happens at the same time. Why wake up a child at night?" A special 'gurh' (jaggery) and til (sesame seeds) prasad is offered to the God, as part of a ritual. Later, the 'chhappan bhog' is offered to the deity, he said. Munish Sharma and Umesh Saraswat, managers of Thakur Bankebihari Temple of Vrindavan, said, according to instructions of the high court, only 500 devotees will be allowed to be present in the temple premises during Mangala Aarti on Sunday morning. 'So that there is no situation of pressure or stampede and the accident in 2022 is not repeated," one of them said. IndiGo Spokesperson says, "On August 16, 2025, an IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft tail touched the runway while executing a low-altitude go-around due to unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai. Thereafter, the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely. The regulator had found 'systemic deficiencies pertaining to operations, training procedures and engineering procedures'. According to aviation website Skybrary, "A tail strike occurs when the aft fuselage (tail) of an aeroplane comes in contact with the runway during either takeoff or landing. Statistically, the majority of tail strikes occur on landing. Tail strikes most often occur as a result of human error although environmental factors, such as strong gusty winds, can increase the potential for an event."
