'Investigate Zohran Mamdani if he concealed...' Rep Any Ogles writes to DOJ, says his rap lyrics were problematic
GOP leader urged Pam Bondi to launch an investigation into Zohran Mamdani.
Amid Republicans' call to deport Zohran Mamdani, the Socialist candidate who won the Democratic primary for the New York mayor election, Congressman Andy Ogles wrote to the Department of Justice seeking an investigation to be launched into Mamdani's citizenship.
The Republican leader doubled that Mamdani may have procured US citizenship through "wilful misrepresentation of concealment of material support for terrorism".
Indian-Ugandan-origin Zohran K Mamdani became a US Citizen in 2018, 20 years after he arrived in the country along with his parents. In 2020, he was first elected to the New York Assembly and has been holding public office since then, but his win in the primary has now led to a frenzy among Republicans.
Citing Mamdani's past career as a rapper, Ogles said he used words like "Free the Holy Land Five/My guys" in his rap, while The Holy Land Foundation was convicted in 2008 for supporting Hamas.

"While I understand that some may raise First Amendment concerns about taking legal action based on expressive conduct, such as rap lyrics, speech alone does not preclude accountability where it reasonably suggests underlying conduct relevant to eligibility of naturalization," he wrote.

"If an individual publicly glorifies a group convicted of financing terrorism, it is entirely appropriate for federal authorities to inquire whether the individual engaged in non-public forms of support 00 such as organizational affiliation, fundraising, or advocacy -- that would have required disclosure on Form N-400 or during a naturalization interview."
"The naturalization process depends on the good-faith disclosure of any affiliation with, or support for, groups that threaten US national security. If Mr Mamdani concealed relevant associations, that concealment may constitute a material misrepresentation sufficient to support denaturalization under federal law," the Republican leader wrote.
Naturalization is the legal process through which a non-citizen becomes a US citizen after being a permanent resident for at least five years on fulfilling certain criteria.

"I wish I could torture you to death": Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock targeted with violent DMs as wife Jordan exposes abuse
'I wish I could torture you to death' Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock targeted with violent DMs as wife Jordan exposes abuse (Image via IG) A serious issue in baseball came to light again this week. Garrett Whitlock, a relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, became the target of hateful messages on social media. His wife, Jordan Whitlock, decided to stretch her legs and expose the abuse. In her Instagram stories, Jordan posted an image of the threats. Some of the language was disturbing and deeply personal. This brings up the point again of the alarming abuse players are receiving from fans, especially via social media, and that their families are now starting to feel it too. Jordan Whitlock defends Garrett Whitlock after disturbing threats shared online On June 26, 2025, Jordan Whitlock, wife of Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock, posted Instagram stories showing angry and violent messages that her husband received in his direct messages. The screenshots showed fans using extreme words. One message said, 'I wish I could torture you to death.' Another fan mentioned their son, wishing harm on the child. The screenshot of the DMs went virally online fast, and it highlights how concerning online abuse from fans has gotten. Jordan tweeted the screenshot after seeing something like it happen towards another player, Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ketel Marte had a recent emotional episode during a game due to something insensitive that someone yelled at him about his deceased mother. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2만원 기부반지 받고 어린이 후원하기 굿네이버스 더 알아보기 Undo The video also went semi-viral, and is a clear example to show the emotional toll that someone yelling from the crowd or online interactions can take on players while they are competing. Garrett Whitlock is one of many MLB players dealing with hate online Garrett Whitlock is not alone. According to a recent report by The Athletic, 78.2% of 133 surveyed MLB players said sports betting has made fan behavior worse. Many fans now lose money when players don't perform well, and they often take out their anger through hateful messages. Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. revealed last month that he was given personal security, paid for by the team's owner, due to threats he received online. Red Sox teammate Liam Hendriks also confirmed he gets threats almost every day. This is becoming a serious conversation inside baseball circles—one that might not be ignored much longer. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

SC alarmed by Karnataka HC's retro use of 'grounds of arrest' order
NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Thursday realised that its well-meaning rulings could cause huge complications in criminal law processes as it found that Karnataka high court had released a murder accused two years after his arrest as police had not informed him in writing the grounds of arrest as mandated by SC in Oct 2023. Appearing for Karnataka govt, senior advocate Sidharth Luthra told a bench led by Justice K V Viswanathan that SC rulings operate prospectively unless specifically directed for its retrospective application. He said the man was arrested on Feb 17, 2023, and was remanded to custody the same day in a murder case . The chargesheet has been filed and he is facing trial, Luthra said. However, nearly one-and-a-half years after SC in Pankaj Bansal case ruled on Oct 3, 2023 that investigating agencies must communicate in writing the grounds of arrest to the person being taken into custody, the murder accused moved Karnataka HC on March 22 this year questioning his arrest due to non-communication of the grounds of arrest in writing by relying on the SC ruling. Relying on subsequent rulings of SC reiterating the principle enunciated in Pankaj Bansal case, HC quashed his arrest but asked him to appear before the investigating officer, cooperate in the probe, not to threaten or tamper with witnesses, not to get involved in similar offences and not to leave the territory of the police station of Arsikere town without IO's permission. Justice Viswanathan said this could have a huge repercussion on thousands of arrests by police across states prior to pronouncement of the judgment in Pankaj Bansal case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "We are worried such a course of action, as adopted by Karnataka HC, will have a nation-wide implication and thousands of accused, arrested prior to Oct 3, 2023, may rush to courts seeking annulment of their arrests," he said. The bench noted that a similar question was pending judgment before a bench led by CJI B R Gavai, which had reserved verdict two months ago on April 22 on a petition filed by Mihir Rajesh Shah who had challenged his arrest alleging that the grounds of arrest were not communicated to him in writing by police. CJI Gavai and Justice A G Masih had raised two questions: Whether in every IPC case, it is mandatory to furnish grounds of arrest before or immediately after the arrest. And, whether the mandate could be optional in exceptional cases where it is impossible to provide grounds of arrest immediately on arrest. Referring to Mihir Shah's case, Justice Viswanathan said since the judgment could be expected after July 15 and could lay down guidelines regarding communication of grounds of arrest, it would be better to post the Karnataka case for hearing on July 18. Justice Viswanathan's apprehension was fully reflected in CJI Gavai's views, as before reserving verdict in Mihir Shah's case, he had observed, "Imagine someone is shooting people in public. Should police take him into custody or wait to prepare grounds of arrest to be served on him prior to that? Our judgments (making it mandatory for police to furnish grounds of arrest in writing) have been grossly misused."

Naval headquarter clerk held for spying for Pakistan, leaking Operation Sindoor details to ISI
JAIPUR: Intelligence agencies' review of social media accounts flagged in a 2022 ISI espionage case involving a Sena Bhawan staffer led investigators to trace a new money trail, resulting in the arrest of an upper division clerk posted at Naval HQ in Delhi. The clerk, Vishal Yadav, is accused of passing on sensitive information to ISI in exchange for money. Investigators are examining financial transactions between a Pakistani ISI handler and Yadav, who was remanded in four days of police custody on Thursday. Jaipur police had taken Yadav to Jaipur after arresting him in Delhi on Wednesday. He allegedly received money in his bank account and through cryptocurrency transactions for spying on behalf of Pakistan. Suspicion about Yadav's activities arose during a review of Facebook accounts flagged in a 2022 espionage case involving Ravi Prakash Meena, a Class IV employee posted at Sena Bhawan. Meena was arrested in Oct 2022 for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Pakistani handlers. He was lured into the network by a woman, who identified herself as Anjali Tiwari on social media, who later moved their conversations to encrypted platforms. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025!
