In a post on his official social media page Wednesday, Correia e Silva said the aid was activated under a cooperation programme aimed at supporting the government's efforts toward a resilient and equitable economic recovery, with the World Bank authorising an immediate disbursement.
He thanked the World Bank Group for its "swift response" to Cape Verde's request and its "strong sense of solidarity" in addressing urgent social and infrastructure needs to protect communities and rebuild with greater resilience.

HARARE, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere has said the Chinese-invested Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO) has boosted the country's industrialization efforts. Speaking during a media tour on Friday, Muswere hailed the project as one of the success stories under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, noting that it reflects Zimbabwe's quest to attain industrial sovereignty. "For many decades, Zimbabwe has been importing steel worth billions of dollars, but with the coming on board of Dinson, the country is now benefiting from import substitution," Muswere said. He said the steel plant, which was granted a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) certificate, as well as the developer and operator permits by the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency last week, will enhance mineral beneficiation and value addition, thereby boosting employment creation and contributing to Zimbabwe's economic growth. Xu Kemin, chief executive officer of Dinson Group, said the SEZ status will help unlock Zimbabwe's industrialization potential and contribute to the country's economic growth. "We will be available to host new investment into the industrial park, especially in the zone. We believe that the zone is going to be the most successful, most vibrant zone in the country," Xu said, adding that the steel plant will be the anchor project in the industrial zone where upstream and downstream businesses are welcome to invest. DISCO, a subsidiary of China's Tsingshan Holding Group, commenced construction of the steel plant in Midlands Province in 2022 and aims to make Zimbabwe a major regional player in steel production.

Pahang Introduces Malaysia's First Prebiotic Rice
TEMERLOH, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Pahang has become the first state in Malaysia to produce prebiotic rice, marketed under the brand name Beras Pahang. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the rice differs from other local varieties as it offers multiple benefits. 'Beras Pahang has its uniqueness. It is a prebiotic rice, low in sugar, and suitable for those with diabetes. 'It has already entered the market in limited quantities. For now, we are prioritising sales in Pahang before distribution in other states,' he told reporters after opening the Pahang Mini MAHA 2025 at Dataran Temerloh here today. Cultivated in the Ganchong paddy fields in Pekan, the rice is said to be tastier, more fragrant and softer, while its prebiotic content supports digestion and overall bowel health. At the event, Beras Pahang was offered at RM8 per kilogramme. Commenting on the inaugural Pahang Mini MAHA 2025, Wan Rosdy said it will be held at different locations each year following an overwhelming response, with over 80,000 visitors recorded today. Meanwhile, citing the Malaysian Agriculture Census interim report released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, he said Pahang has proven its capability as the country's second-largest contributor to the agriculture sector, after Johor, with sales worth RM25.12 billion. Of that amount, he said 88 per cent came from the crop subsector, proving Pahang's fertile land and the hardworking spirit of its people.

Home Minister: Foreigner's Visa Status Does Not Grant Immunity To Break Malaysian Law
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The visa status held by foreigners does not grant them immunity to break the law in this country. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said firm and stringent action will be taken against any foreign national who violates Malaysia's laws, including breaching pass conditions, posing a security threat, or disturbing public order. He said actions taken include pass cancellation, blacklisting, and deportation to the country of origin, and this principle is applied consistently, irrespective of the individual's background or status. "Visa status, whether as a student, investor, long-term visit pass holder, or participant in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme, does not provide immunity from the laws of this country. "The safety of Malaysians and the sovereignty of the nation are non-negotiable priorities," he said in a statement tonight. Saifuddin said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) consistently carries out its enforcement duties in a professional manner, without discrimination or exceptions based on race or country of origin, particularly in cases involving foreigners. He added that the law investigates all reports involving foreign nationals and takes appropriate action to ensure public safety, including in cases that receive media coverage. "Recent incidents involving foreigners that have gone viral have drawn public attention, but it must be emphasised that each case will be handled properly through existing laws," he said. He further said that Malaysia has specified that the recruitment of low-skilled foreign workers is permitted only from 15 officially designated source countries, and China is not among them.
