Why Sunderland need 'experience and understanding' to survive

We asked for your questions for BBC Sport pundit Nedum Onuoha on your Premier League club.
Chris asked what Nedum's former club Sunderland can do to strengthen for the challenges of the Premier League next season after securing promotion.

That is a tough question.
I would say they need to find people with good Premier League experience that also understand what it takes to galvanise a group to take on a challenge that most of those guys have not experienced before - and can do it as significant underdogs on a week-to-week basis.
If you bring somebody in who expects to be successful straight away then some of the tougher times might affect the mood. You need someone with experience who is realistic and can also be part of a team build.
You do not want to go into the Premier League and just figure it out as you go along. You want to have a plan and to build. It seems like the manager has got a lot of belief in them by finally getting back up there, plus some of the players already there could potentially do well in the top flight.

Sunderland need to find players who will complement that, not ones who are going to be doing things for themselves if things start to go sour because, in reality and as it stands, people do not expect them to win a lot of games.
They are going to have to be fighting their way through on a week-to-week basis.
I have heard links with Jordan Henderson coming back. I do not know if he will, but if somebody with that much Premier League experience would want to be part of a transition period for the club - and he is also in one himself - then that would be great.
That is part of what you need - somebody who will understand the area, understand the fanbase and understand the club. Not somebody who just sees a chance to go and play in the Premier League.

If you fail to find the right mix then it will be a real split in terms of those who have come up with the side and those who arrive.
If Sunderland do not get experience and understanding then they will be in a terrible position in a year's time - probably heading back to the Championship but this time without that cohesive feeling they had just a few weeks ago.

(AP Photo/Joan Monfort) NYON, Switzerland (AP) — World champion Spain will continue its defense of the UEFA Women's Nations League title against Sweden in the semifinals after the draw was made on Friday. Spain will host the first leg on Oct. 24 and the return is four days later in Sweden. Advertisement Germany hosts France first in the other semifinal played on the same dates. France was beaten by Spain 2-0 in Seville in the inaugural final last year. The 2025 final is scheduled over two legs, on Nov. 28 and Dec. 2. All four teams advanced to the finals stage by finishing atop groups that started in February and finished this week — effectively as warmups for the Women's European Championship. Only France won six straight games. First, all four head to the 16-team Euro 2025 that starts on July 2 in Switzerland. Germany and Sweden are in the same Euros group. France is in a tough group with the past two European champions, England and the Netherlands. Spain, the 2023 Women's World Cup winner, starts its Euro 2025 campaign against Portugal on July 3 in Bern. ___ AP soccer:

David Beckham to Receive Knighthood
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." David Beckham is set to be awarded a knighthood in King Charles's annual birthday honors, which will be revealed next week. BBC Sport first reported the news, though a government spokesperson declined to comment on 'speculation on honours.' After he is knighted, he will be Sir David, and his wife Victoria will become 'Lady Victoria.' Beckham was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003, and in the years since, has emphasized his ties to the British royal family. 'I've always been a huge royalist, I was brought up in a family and household that adored and loved everything with the royal family,' he said. 'When the King asked me to part of his foundation, I was very honored, very privileged, I rang my mum straight away.' She 'burst into tears,' Beckham shared. 'She knows my grandparents would have been proud that I have played such an important role in the royal family and the charities that they have.' He's made numerous appearance recently with King Charles and Prince William, and last year, attended a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace. When Queen Elizabeth passed away, he was one of thousands who queued to pay their respects as the late monarch laid in state. 'The most special moment for me was to receive my OBE. I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife there as well,' he shared upon the Queen's passing. 'To step up, to get my honor, but then also Her Majesty, to ask questions, to talk, I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life, to be around Her Majesty. Because we can all see with the love that has been shown, how special she is and how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.' Beckham played for Manchester United and the England national team, including playing 59 games as captain. He helped Manchester United win six Premier League championships, and also played for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. Beckham will join a small list of former football players to be knighted. You Might Also Like 12 Weekend Getaway Spas For Every Type of Occasion 13 Beauty Tools to Up Your At-Home Facial Game
