Kamala Harris savagely trolled after announcing new book on her failed presidential campaign

Daily Mail4 days ago
Former Vice President Kamala Harris announced Thursday a book deal for her memoir about the 2024 election, titled '107 Days.'
Harris' book announcement took place a day after she announced her decision not to run for Governor of California, sparking speculation that she was planning another run for president instead.
The former vice president reflected on her failing campaign as 'the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.'
'What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story,' Harris wrote on social media announcing her book as a 'behind-the-scenes look' at her campaign.
'Since leaving office, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on those days, talking with my team, my family and friends, and pulling my thoughts together. In essence, writing a journal that is in this book,'
Harris said the book would be filled with 'candor and reflection' about the race that kicked off after former President Joe Biden abandoned his reelection campaign after a disastrous debate performance.
'It was intense, high stakes and deeply personal for me and for so many of you,' she said.
The book published by Simon and Schuster will be released on September 23.
Harris' announcement drew immediate mockery online.
Critics taunted her for wasting billions of dollars on her campaign, including payments to prominent celebrities.
'Writing a memoir about being a loser is a choice,' White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson wrote on X.
It is unclear exactly how much money Harris paid to Beyonce for her endorsement, although according to a Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing, the campaign payed the singer's production company, Parkwood Production Media, $165,000 for 'campaign event production.'
'Trying to sell some books to pay down your $5 million debt to Beyoncé for that endorsement?' Nick Sortor wrote.
'I can't wait to hear the inside story about how you burned $1.5B in 107 days and accomplished absolutely nothing,' wrote Jim Hanson.
'Does the book include how much you paid for endorsements and cringe performances at your astroturfed rallies?' wrote Eric Daugherty on social media.
'Should have titled it 'Luckily Voters Didn't See More Of Me Or I Would Have Lost By Even More,'' added another person on social media.
'It's just a recipe book for a word salad,' wrote another person social media.
Harris announced Wednesday she would not run for governor of California to replace outgoing Gov. Gavin Newsom, triggering speculation that she would run for president again.
'In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their governor,' she wrote in a statement. 'I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I've decided that I will not run for governor in this election.'
Harris' long-awaited decision takes place after several California Democrats announced their campaigns, not waiting for the former vice president to rule out a possible run.
Former Orange County Rep. Katie Porter, ex-Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and former U.S. Health Secretary Xavier Becerra announced their intent to run for governor despite Harris' indecision.
Many national Democrats privately thought that Harris should run for the state position after losing the 2024 presidential race to President Donald Trump.
Her decision to opt out of the state race sparks speculation that she may mount another presidential campaign in 2028.
But Harris' statement indicated she would not pursue elected office 'for now.'
'For now, my leadership — and public service — will not be in elected office,' she wrote. 'I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.'
If Harris does run for president in 2028, she would likely face Newsom, who continues to build up his political profile as a future contender for president.

'Oh, now I love her ad,' he said, adding: 'You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans', though admitted he did not think Sweeney would have voted red. 'If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.' On Saturday (2 August), it was revealed that the Euphoria actress has been a registered voter with the Republican Party in Florida since June 2024, according to public voting records.

Stephen Colbert lands new late-night gig

Stephen Colbert, the host of The Late Show, is getting a new late-night gig – albeit a fictional one. He is confirmed to guest star in the forthcoming third season of the crime comedy series Elsbeth, portraying Scotty Bristol, the host of a fictional late-night talk show. His appearance was specifically written for him and was reportedly orchestrated by his new co-star, Wendell Pierce, with the episode thought to have already been filmed. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is scheduled to conclude in May 2026, with CBS stating the decision was financial. However, speculation suggests the cancellation may be linked to appeasing President Donald Trump, following Colbert's critical comments about a settlement involving Trump and Paramount's need for FCC approval for a major sale.
