'Leader' Lauder takes up player-assistant coach role at City
Hayley Lauder says it "makes sense" to take on a player-assistant coach role at Glasgow City. The 35-year-old midfielder fills the position after former assistant Leanne Crichton joined Rangers as their new head has made 252 appearances since joining City in December 2014 and has won seven SWPL titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup."I'm very excited," Lauder said. "The stage that I'm at playing wise, it is a move that makes sense for me."I can continue providing that support as a player to the team, but also as a member of staff to Leanne [Ross]."We have always had a good relationship and one that is really honest. We can challenge each other, but always have that respect there. I'm looking forward to continuing that."City head coach Leanne Ross added: "I'm absolutely delighted to have Hayley stepping into the role of player-assistant coach."She is someone who knows this club inside out having been here for over a decade, has strong and genuine relationships within the team, and is someone I have complete trust in."Her knowledge of the game is exceptional, and moving into coaching feels like a natural progression for her at this stage of her career."She's been a leader on the pitch for years, and now she'll bring that same insight and passion to the coaching side. I'm delighted to have her working with the team in this role."

Russell Martin teases next Rangers signing as boss makes it crystal clear what transfer targets must have
It's been a busy summer for the Ibrox boss in the market but he's not done yet In recent years Rangers players have never had a problem raising their game for big European nights. The real issue has been lifting themselves for the bread and butter of the Scottish Premiership. And new boss Russell Martin is about to find out whether it's still a matter for concern. On Tuesday night, his team produced a terrific display to batter Czech side Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in their Champions League qualifying first-leg. Now, Martin's men have to replicate it on Saturday against a Dundee outfit who look like they're destined for a campaign of toil in the top flight. Rangers failed to pick up three points in their league opener at Motherwell last week which prompted Martin to question their attitude. He doesn't want a repeat of their Fir Park performance against the Dark Blues as he looks to build a winning machine at Ibrox. Martin knows mentality HAS been a problem at Gers in the past but he's adamant that getting the right characters into the club can change it. He said: 'From Saturday to Tuesday, there was a lot of improvement so we have to reinforce the good stuff. 'But it's also our job to be really demanding so they understand there's still a lot we can do better. 'On the pitch, they'd have felt certain things on Tuesday. When they watch it back, it becomes even clearer. 'They're building relationships. We're trying to build something that will be sustainable - and looks like us all the time. 'Tuesday was definitely a step towards that but now the challenge is to do it again. 'In terms of our work, it's exactly the same for Dundee as it was on Tuesday night. 'At this club, every game should be treated in the same way because every team you play is desperate to beat us. "We have to be ready for that and make sure, in every game, we play it on our terms as much as we can. 'The game has to be the way we want it to be. The lads did that on Tuesday night but the challenge is to do it again on Saturday. 'We have to get to a point where we dominate at Ibrox against anyone and everyone. But you don't just get given that, you have to earn it. 'You have to earn respect and a bit of fear. We certainly do. Because against Motherwell we didn't scare them enough. 'We didn't earn the right to do it our way. You earn that by being aggressive, on the front foot and really brave on the ball. 'On Tuesday we did all of those things. We earned the dominance we had in the game and we need to do that again on Saturday.' Martin is still on the hunt for new players, despite already adding eight new faces to his squad. He says he'll always look at someone's attitude over their ability. And he's hinted that he's now keen to add an experienced leader to the group at Ibrox. He said: 'It's always character before talent. We knew Joe Rothwell. We know and trust Max Aarons. 'With Nasser Djiga, we had brilliant references. You make sure you have that character reference first, that's really important. 'You need a level of talent to even be watched before entering this building. But it's then about character and what you're going to add. 'That's the most important bit - but the hardest bit to look at just from watching someone play. We want to make sure we're bringing in the right players for us and the group. 'The culture of this club and team needed to improve. 'The habits and mentality had to improve and character certainly helps that. We'll definitely keep looking for that and maybe an experienced body would help the guys in big moments. If you can find the right one, in that sense, great.' Martin was delighted with his latest signing - Finnish winger Oliver Antman - against Plzen in midweek. The £4million wide man arrived from Go Ahead Eagles and was immediately thrown in for his debut in less than 24 hours. Antman responded by winning a penalty for Rangers and providing a brilliant assist for Djeidi Gassama. But Martin didn't expect anything less from the highly-rated Finn. He said: 'Oliver came highly recommended and we watched him a lot. We spoke to a lot of people who have either played with him or worked with him. 'They all said the same thing - they just didn't see it being a problem for him here because of his mentality. I was really pleased with what he did. He's a confident boy but in a nice way. 'You need that here. There's no time for a dip, he has to carry on now. He really set down a standard early on that he has to maintain. 'We have to push them to keep doing it. It's about consistency in behaviour, effort and performance. If we get that, we'll keep improving.'

Russell Martin 'won't get stressed' over Rangers team leaks
Rangers head coach Russell Martin says he won't get stressed about his team selection being leaked – and is sure whoever shared the team didn't mean to hurt the club. Martin made four changes to his side for the Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen, with captain James Tavernier and key midfielder Nico Raskin dropped. Oliver Antman made his debut a day after signing for the club. That team was leaked and widely circulated on social media, but Martin was relaxed about the opposition potentially knowing his selection in advance of the game. 'I can't really control any of that,' he said. 'I think it's become a bit more common in the modern game. 'I don't think anyone would do it from inside this building to intentionally hurt us. 'I've always named the team really early when I've been a coach or manager, then people don't waste energy and time wondering if they're in a team and we can actually work on certain things. 'People are left out. They tell agents, they tell their friends and family, then somehow it gets to you guys (in the media) very quickly. Again, I choose to trust that no one does it to try and hurt us intentionally, so I can't really control anything else. 'I said to the guys that it's not ideal, but also I'm not gonna lose sleep over it and it is what it is. I'm not sure it changes the opposition's plann finding out about the team hours before they've done pretty much all of their work. I presume so.' Martin, who is preparing for the Premiership match against Dundee at Ibrox before the return match against Plzen, said he has plenty on his plate without being concerned about the issue. 'I think there's enough stuff in this job to be concerned about and to focus on all the time,' he added. 'So I'm not going to stress overly about the team being leaked. 'We spoke about it here. It's not ideal, but I also believe that no one's done it to hurt us or harm us. If I ever felt that, it'd be a different thing. But it's modern football, and I think when people are saying if they're in or out of the team, you just have to have awareness of who you're telling and all of that stuff. 'There's other stuff for me to get stressed about, and I don't think that's one of them.' The head coach revealed that Thelo Aasgaard and Hamza Igamane are now on the pitch training but not yet fit enough to be involved. Martin also gave an update on Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore, who is still waiting on paperwork being completed before he can make his debut. 'We're still not quite there with Mikey, which is frustrating for him and for us,' he said. 'Because he's deemed a minor by FIFA (he turns 18 on Monday), there's a lot of protocol to go through, and we aren't there yet. 'It can take a while. He's 18 soon so he'd be available then for us. We might have to wait until then. But hopefully we'll get him ready for Tuesday.'
