His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran HE Dr Masoud Pezeshkian discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance and develop them, along with regional and international developments.
This came during His Highness' phone call with the Iranian president on Saturday.
HH the Amir reiterated the State of Qatar's strong condemnation and deep denunciation of the Israeli attack that targeted the territory of the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran, considering it a blatant violation of Iran's sovereignty and security, and a clear breach of the rules and principles of international law.
His Highness stressed the need to de-escalate all forms of tension and to reach diplomatic solutions that would achieve lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

Iran-US nuclear talks in Oman cancelled after Israeli attacks

The US and Iran resumed their talks in April for the first time since Washington withdrew from the Vienna nuclear agreement in 2018. That deal came amid fears in Israel, the US and other Western countries that Iran is secretly developing nuclear weapons, though Tehran continues to insist its programme is solely for civilian purposes. The 2015 Vienna agreement saw Iran agree to restrict its nuclear programme after lengthy negotiations with China, Russia, the US, France, Germany and the UK. However, after Trump unilaterally withdrew from the pact in 2018, he imposed new, harsh sanctions, crippling the Iranian economy. (DPA)

Iran fires fresh wave of missiles
Iran fired a new wave of missiles at Israel, according to Tasnim news agency, on Saturday evening. The Israeli military also said that it had registered the launch of missiles towards Israel. Iran's attack follows reports of explosions heard in Tehran, the nation's capital. There were audible explosions and the air defence system in the south of Tehran were activated, Tasnim news agency reported earlier. Residents reported loud detonations. Unconfirmed reports said an Israeli drone had been shot down. Citizens were already trying to leave after Israel's threat of harsh military strikes on the Iranian capital. (DPA)

Several Middle Eastern countries reopen airspace

Jordan resumed civil aviation operations at 7.30am (0430 GMT), according to the state news agency Petra. Lebanon followed at 10am, while Syria's state news agency SANA also announced the reopening of its airspace earlier in the day. Iraq extended its suspension of civilian flights until the early afternoon. The restrictions were in response to an unprecedented escalation in hostilities, triggered by Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, military leadership and top scientist early on Friday.
