Prince William and then Katherine Middleton were the stars of the early 2000s, with paparazzi following their every move.
Early morning taxi rides back from clubs in Chelsea, watching the polo together and generally enjoying their early twenties in London, the young couple were hard to miss.
Now, almost 20 years after their nights out began gracing front pages, it seems a new generation has fallen in love with William and Kate.
'POV: you were both the IT couple in the 2000s,' TikTok account willyandcath posted, paired with footage of Wills and Kate in their glory days.
Their graduation at St Andrew's, William's time at a military academy, cameras flashing as they walked into a black cab late at night – all set to the song 'Paparazzi' by Lady Gaga.

Psychologist Dr. Lalitaa Suglani told Metro on behalf of Genting Casino: 'Romanticising the past, particularly through nostalgic media, is a form of emotional regulation.
'In uncertain or fast-paced modern times, people often seek comfort in familiar or 'simpler' eras.'
'The early 2000s hold a particular cultural aesthetic that many associate with optimism and pre-digital overload. Fan cams package these memories with soft music and filtered visuals, helping to trigger emotional responses tied to security, belonging, and longing – all connecting people to ways of feeling romanticised.'
A fan cam is a video clip of a celebrity or influential figure, edited by fans, often to music and trending sounds, and shared online.
They're particularly popular among K-pop fans, who use them to circulate footage fans take of their idols.
But they're also silly – some online have made versions of fan cams with politicians and other figures who don't quite fit the 'vibe' of a fan cam.
Dr Suglani added that social media has amplified this trend – the feel-good nostalgia can be accomplished through these short videos.
Prince William and Princess Kate's early romance is also appealing because it resembles a fairy tale narrative.
'A royal love story that played out publicly, full of relatable ups and downs. From a psychological perspective, we're drawn to parasocial relationships, one-sided connections we form with public figures.
'When older clips resurface, they don't just remind us of the couple, they remind us of our own past selves, our own first loves, or a time when life felt more certain or romantic.'
Dr Suglani explained: 'Paparazzi culture fed the public's appetite during the 2000s, creating a sense of 'shared ownership' over their story. More Trending
'This made their relationship feel both personal and accessible. Their royal status adds another layer, symbolism, tradition, and continuity, which taps into our brain's love of narrative and structure.
'Royalty offers familiarity and mythology. When we watch old footage, we're not just watching two people in love, we're reconnecting with a time, a feeling, and a narrative that brings emotional resolution.'

'The cost of them puts people off but we have stayed in some hotels that cost a fortune and then had a cheap £160-a-week apartment that is a lot better. "Don't let the price put you off." He added: "We have stayed in some really rough places too - it's not all good when it's cheap - but 90 per cent of the time they are sound." His post has received hundreds of comments online with many slamming the apartment for being too noisy. One user said: 'Ye get no sleep to much noise. Stayed there.' Another added: 'Poor man's Dubai.' One even said that when staying there, they couldn't get any sleep. 'I stayed there years ago … no sleep for 4 days," they said. Azealia Banks cancels UK festivals with claims she was pressured to 'support Pal
Azealia Banks has announced that she will no longer be performing Boomtown of Maiden Voyage after 'dealing with threats' from organisers. The controversial American rapper, 34, took to social media to claim that she was being forced to say she supports Palestine or be cut from the lineup, a claim the promoters deny. Taking to X, the 212 singer told her fans: 'So guys, I am cancelling Boomtown and Maiden Voyage. 'The promoters have been stressing me out for weeks trying to force me to say free Palestine and threatening to cut me from the bill because I won't say free Palestine and I'm not dealing with the threats and I'm not putting on a f***ing hijab. She added: 'I would much rather drop them and not associate with anything that has cheap group think bull***t attached to it. 'If they want to allow some no-name dj's to bully them into desecrating the nature of this music ecosystem and make ME the issue – whilst there being absolutely no ethical consumption under capitalism. Then that's fine. She clarified her stance in a following tweet that read: 'And no, I'm not saying f**k actual Palestine. But f**k your dumb a** slogans and performative bulls**t. Y'all wanna make a stance so bad but stand for absolutely nothing.' She continued to share various messages to her fans on social media, taking aim at organisers and performative Palestine supporters. Boomtown confirmed in a statement to Metro that they have not, and would not, dictate the beliefs of performers. 'Following her post on X in the early hours of this morning, we can confirm that Azealia Banks has withdrawn from the lineup and will no longer be performing at Boomtown Festival. 'For clarity, Boomtown does not and will never dictate the personal views and beliefs of performers,' a spokesperson said. The festival announced in January 2024 that it would be fundraising for Medical Aid for Palestinians, and an optional donation was put on all ticket purchases. The festival is set to take place from August 6 to August 10 at the Matterly Estate, Hampshire. Maiden Voyage Festival will take place on August 9 in Burgess Park, London. The change in lineup comes just weeks after Banks took to social media to claim that she was a Zionist. 'It should all be Israel. Palestine cannot support itself without help from other countries so the people should just leave or become naturalised Israelis,' she shared on X. 'Palestine is not a country. The area is called JUDEA for a reason.' The star has become known for her controversial comments, and throughout her career has been accused of homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia towards a variety of different nationalities. Notably, the star has shared a number of rants on X and Instagram, taking aim at various celebrities including Zayn Malik, Skai Jackson, and Kanye West.
