"It was a difficult night because we all thought we had the players to win it ahead of the match.
"We had chances and one moment from Rangers changed everything.
"It is very important for us that the fans support us and stay patient.
"They can be our 12th man and we know they can act as the push we need to win on the night and then go on to qualify."
And teammate Anastasios Bakasetas - the captain of Greece - moaned that the result was 'unfair.'
He pointed out: "I think it's clear that the result was unfair to us.
"I think that if any team should have won, it was us.
"But it's also a law of football, when you don't score a goal, you have to accept it. And we had very clear opportunities to score.
"But there's no point complaining now. We still have one game to rectify this."We all believe we can still qualify."

Three Reasons We Love the Hearts' Chances to Contend in 2025-26
With the season just one month away, Hearts fans have high hopes for the club. A new boss and increased financial backing, many league experts believe they will contend for a top spot in the Scottish Premiership in the 2025-26 season. However, will these changes help them compete with league giants Celtic and Rangers? We believe the Hearts of Midlothian are capable of pushing the two top clubs and could end up taking one of the Scottish Premiership's top two spots on the table this season. We'll share the three top reasons for our confidence below, giving you everything you need to prepare for a thrilling Hears season! Photo by Wesley Tingey on Unsplash Hearts Go All in With Derek McInnes The biggest reason we believe the Hearts are set for a spectacular season is the appointment of new manager Derek McInnes. The Paisley-born boss enjoyed a fantastic playing career and has carried that success into managing. The hiring of McInnes was a massive victory for the club. After taking chances on unproven managers for years, they have decided to bring in a proven winner in McInnes. Although his Kilmarnock club struggled last season, he led them to an impressive fourth-place finish in the 2023-24 season. With more resources and better support from the Hearts, we expect his winning ways to return quickly. McInnes made a name for himself as a manager during his eight-year stint with Aberdeen. He led them to a Scottish League Cup title and reached the finals two other times. He also helped Aberdeen reach the finals of the Scottish Cup during the 2016-17 season. In his time with Aberdeen, he led the club to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership in four consecutive seasons. They were unable to close the gap on Celtic, but managed to consistently beat out Rangers (and a good Hearts squad) for the second spot. Sportsbook Odds Show Confidence There is no shortage of Scottish Premiership analysts and experts, but they often have conflicting views. This is why we like to check sportsbook odds to get a sense of how operators believe the season will unfold. With large sums of money on the line, bookmakers are more incentivized to set odds based on in-depth research. Most popular sportsbooks have Celtic as the favorites, followed by Rangers. Hearts can be found in a distant third, but light years ahead of the rest of the field, including the Hibs. This shows that bookmakers like what they've seen from Hearts, who finished outside of the top six last season. While their odds remain behind the two leaders, a hot start from the Tynecastle Club could quickly change that. Sportsbooks taking an interest in Hearts is good news for fans who want to bet on their matches. They can expect to see Hearts-related betting offers, allowing them to back their squad while receiving better odds, bet credits, and more. Tony Bloom's Financial Backing While we are hopeful about the Hearts future over the next few seasons, that optimism took a hit when Heart of Midlothian's chairperson Ann Budge announced she will be stepping down. The 77-year-old has been a godsend for the club, helping to bring in the financial backing needed to compete in Scotland's top football league. Budge leaving will likely hurt over the years, but she provided the club with one final gift before she leaves. That came in the form of a €10 million investment from Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom. He is receiving a 29% ownership stake, but will not receive voting rights, leaving the Foundation of Hearts in control. Bloom's investment was met with celebration from fans and club leadership. It represents another step forward for a club that was almost brought to the brink of collapse by former owner Vladimir Romanov. Time will tell how the club will replace Budge, but Bloom's investment gives them a head start. It sends a message to the league and international players that the club is determined to compete and has the financial backing to do so. That, combined with Bloom's connections to English football, could lead to talented stars taking a second look at Hearts. Like this: Like Related

Joe Rothwell urges Rangers to kill off Panathinaikos tie
The 30-year-old midfielder, signed from Bournemouth this summer, made his Gers debut in the 2-0 win over the 10-man Greek side at Ibrox on Tuesday night. Russell Martin's men struggled for the most part before decisive goals from 19-year-old Findlay Curtis and debutant Djeidi Gassama, either side of Panathinaikos right-back Giorgos Vagiannidis receiving his marching orders after picking up the second of two yellow cards for a foul on Curtis. Ahead of the second leg in Athens – which follows a friendly against Middlesbrough at Ibrox on Saturday – Rothwell was asked if the Light Blues can feel in command of the tie. 'I think we have to now, yeah,' he said. 'Obviously, 2-0, it's a good scoreline, especially in this format. 'So we'll go out there and obviously we won't be looking to defend it. We'll try and go out there and win the game and score as many goals as we can. 'It (2-0 win) can be huge. I think he (Martin) said in his press conference, it was not going to be a season-defining game but we wanted to go out there and put a show on and really show how he wants to do things. 'I think we managed to do that, controlled the game as we like to do and just a bit disappointed that we didn't go and probably kill the game off a little bit more.' The Light Blues should have been behind before Curtis opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, with Martin having to settle his new charges down at the interval before an improved performance in the second half. Rothwell said: 'He said to just stick to what we do. 'We went away from it a little bit, in terms of how we want to play, and in the first 10, 15 (minutes) I think we started the game really well and then probably came away from it a little bit. 'And then obviously with them going down to 10 men, we've managed to control the game and probably disappointed we didn't probably get a few more in the end, but we can't complain, it's a win and we take a lead over there.' Rothwell was impressed and inspired by his first taste of a European night at Ibrox. He said: 'Loved it. Obviously you hear stories from the outside, but when you actually get out there and experience it, it's fantastic and I'm sure the fans are going to be behind us in every single game and we'll need them. 'There'll be times where it might be a bit tough for us, but I'm sure they'll get behind us and then get us over the finish line. 'I think you can really see what the manager wants us to do and how we want to play and I thought it was obviously another good test for us and we came through it in the end.'

Russell Martin teases Rangers squad shake-up vs Middlesbrough
The Ibrox boss has revealed he will use the match to offer game time to players less involved so far in pre-season. Martin did state some of those involved against Panathinaikos will feature this weekend, but his comments suggested significant squad rotation for the bounce game at Ibrox. 🔵 "It's a good game for us against really good quality opposition..." Russell Martin is looking forward to Rangers welcoming Middlesbrough to Ibrox on Saturday ⤵️ — Sky Sports Scotland (@ScotlandSky) July 25, 2025 The friendly against the English Championship club comes days out from the second leg of the Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos. Rangers will take a 2-0 lead into the second leg in Greece next week. "I think it's great, I think it's really good to have another game at [[Ibrox]]," Martin told Sky Sports ahead of the fixture. "Some of the guys who haven't played so many minutes will definitely play some minutes. Read more: "The guys who played on Tuesday might get on the pitch as well, just to have a few more repetitions. "We'll see how the game goes but I think it is going to be really important, especially for the guys who haven't played as much yet. "We need to be able to see those guys. I know we can trust to put them on the pitch in certain moments and I'm really excited and really looking forward to see what they are capable of." On having another match at Ibrox in pre-season in front of supporters, Martin added: "I think it is really important. It's a really good game for us against really good quality opposition with Rob and a coaching staff in Harry [Watling] and Adi [Viveash] that we know. "We know they will be very well coached, that team and it'll be a tough game and it's exactly what we need right now."
