Drug kingpin Navin Chichkar deported from Malaysia
MUMBAI: Navin Chichkar, the alleged kingpin of a drug trafficking syndicate operating from Malaysia, has been deported from Malaysia and is now in the custody of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai. He was recently deported in an operation involving several authorities, including Interpol and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Since January, the NCB has seized from alleged members of the syndicate 11.7 kg of cocaine and 10.4 kg of cannabis and cannabis gummies. Based on an NCB request, Interpol recently issued a Red Corner Notice against Chichkar, which led to his deportation to India.
Chichkar first came under the NCB scanner in 2021 in connection with a case of LSD trafficking but he was absconding. He later surfaced in Thailand and was recently located in Malaysia, where he was detained for deportation. A city court on Tuesday remanded Chichkar to the custody of the NCB.
Chichkar has a post-graduate degree in psychology from the United Kingdom, according to agency sources. Last month, his father, a local builder, died by suicide in Navi Mumbai.
The NCB resumed the hunt for the drug trafficker with the seizure of 200 grams of cocaine concealed in a projector being shipped by air through a private courier to Australia on January 21, agency sources said. Following a bottom–to-top approach during the investigation, the NCB team seized more narcotics in a subsequent operation. This included 11.54 kg of cocaine, 4.9 kg of cannabis and 5.5 kg of cannabis gummies allegedly from the home of a syndicate member in Navi Mumbai, the sources said.
The NCB's probe revealed the involvement of the syndicate, which trafficked cocaine from the United States to India, and its further distribution within and outside India, the sources added. The probe revealed the involvement of clearing house agents and hawala operators. So far, the NCB has arrested eight individuals linked to the syndicate. The syndicate was active for at least a year and multiple consignments of cocaine via air cargo were allegedly received in Mumbai during this time, the sources said.
'Chichkar's interrogation is likely to reveal more details of his operations including the source of drugs in the US,' a NCB source said. 'Financial investigation in the case has already led to identification of assets including properties and bank accounts in Thailand. Efforts are underway for their attachment,' the NCB source added.
In a separate case, earlier this month, the NCB had secured the deportation of an accused from the United Arab Emirates, who was involved in a drug trafficking case in Bengaluru.

Haryana man held for raping kids, sharing videos
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a man from Hisar in Haryana for allegedly raping children and creating, uploading, browsing, collecting, and exchanging child sexual abuse material online, the agency said on Wednesday. The activities of the accused, identified as Somnath, were detected through an Interpol database. 'In furtherance to its strong commitment in combating the menace of child sexual exploitation and bring the perpetrators to justice, CBI has arrested the accused from district Hisar, Haryana, on allegations of committing rape, penetrative sexual assault etc on multiple minor victims,' the federal agency said in a statement. CBI arrested Somnath from his residence in Hisar and recovered incriminating gadgets on Tuesday. It found he allegedly raped, sexually assaulted, threatened and used multiple children for pornography. The agency said it registered a case on May 29 after detecting Somnath's activities while examining videos and images on the Interpol's International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database. The ICSE is an intelligence and investigative mechanism that allows investigators to share data on child sexual abuse cases across 70 countries, including India. The database has helped identify 42,300 victims and 18,300 offenders. CBI said it detected the child sexual abuse on its own, as the victims or their families did not report the incidents to police or any law enforcement agency. 'Demonstrating qualitative investigative skills, due diligence, and procedural efficiency, CBI detected CSAM [child sexual abuse material] images and videos from the Interpol's ICSE database…,' CBI said. The agency added that the material was also linked with the Google-generated cyber tipline reporting on child sexual exploitation and submitted to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). 'The analysis of the images and videos using cyber forensic tools revealed the location of the incident to district Hisar in Haryana, depicting multiple victims of sexual assault and abuse by the accused,' CBI said. Somnath was arrested three months after CBI in March launched operation 'Hawk' to dismantle the cybercrime networks involved in online child sexual exploitation with international linkages based on inputs from the US. Hisar police said they did not have any information about the crime. 'We heard about accused Somnath on TV channels and we have no inputs about him,' Hisar police spokesperson Vikas Kumar said. Child sexual abuse is punishable in India under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while the Information Technology Act provides for punishment for publishing, browsing, or transmitting child pornography. In 2018, the Supreme Court asked the government to frame guidelines to eliminate child pornography, rape and gang-rape imageries, videos and sites from content hosting platforms and applications. An ad-hoc Rajya Sabha committee in February 2020 recommended the identification of the originators of such content. The panel studied the issue of pornography on social media and its effect on children and society. As part of the Centre's steps, the internet service providers are mandated to protect children from sexual abuse. The government blocks the websites containing child sexual abuse material based on Interpol's 'worst-of-list' which CBI periodically shares. The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules mandate intermediaries to remove or disable access within 24 hours of receipt of complaints of contents that exposes the private areas of individuals, show them in full or partial nudity or in sexual act or is in the nature of impersonation, including morphed imagery. The complaints about cybercrimes against women and children can be filed on the national cyber portal (

CBI Arrests Man For Child Sexual Assault, Exploitation Of Minor Girls
New Delhi: CBI has arrested a man from Hisar, Haryana, in connection with a case of sexual assault and exploitation of minor girls. The accused, identified as Somnath, allegedly raped multiple children and shared child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online, the agency said. CBI detected the instance of child sexual abuse on its own. Until the registration of the case, the survivors or their families had not reported the crimes to any law enforcement agency. The agency detected the objectionable material uploaded by the accused through Interpol's database and corroborated it with the cyber tipline reports generated by Google. "The analysis of the images and videos using cyber forensic tools revealed the location of the incidents as Hisar in Haryana, depicting multiple victims of sexual assault and abuse by the accused," CBI spokesperson Beena Yadav said. The agency proceeded with caution, speaking to the families through counsellors. An FIR was registered, and the accused booked for creating, browsing, collecting, possessing, exchanging and uploading CSAM. The FIR accused Somnath of depicting children in sexual acts in electronic form, besides storing pornographic material involving children. "Searches were conducted by CBI at the residential premises of the accused on June 3, which led to the recovery of incriminating electronic gadgets as well as the identification of multiple victim children who were raped, sexually assaulted, threatened and used for pornographic purposes over the past few years," the spokesperson added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The accused, who has a physical disability, was arrested the same day and produced in court. In 2019, the agency set up an online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention/Investigation Unit in New Delhi under its Special Crime Zone. The agency has since launched multiple drives to dismantle international networks and people involved in online child sexual exploitation. Operation Carbon in 2021, Op Megh Chakra in 2022, and, most recently, Op Hawk were conducted as part of its effort of rapid response to online child sexual exploitation cases with international linkages, and to trace accused, suspects and conspirators across international jurisdictions, requiring a globally coordinated law enforcement response. The International Child Sexual Exploitation database has been instrumental in identifying over 42,000 victims and 18,000 abusers worldwide, with India playing a key role. Last month, the agency caught two suspects who were using Discord to exploit minor girls from the US, inducing and intimidating them to share obscene content.
