Coldplay pays for young musicians to use studio in Frome
Coldplay has donated to a charity to allow young musicians to use a professional music studio. The band rehearsed their headline set for Glastonbury Festival at Frome's Cheese and Grain venue last summer and donated signed CDs and vinyl records. The proceeds went to support the charity Young People Frome, which is using the money to let young musicians record a song at the Cheese and Grain studio.James Brookes, music leader at the charity, said: "The idea is we give them a taste of what they potentially could do as a career and if they wanted to pursue that further, we can support them."
Steve Macarthur, director of Frome's Cheese and Grain, said Coldplay had booked out the venue to rehearse ahead of Glastonbury Festival 2024.He added that during that time, the band went down to the local record shop Raves From The Grave and signed every CD and every Coldplay vinyl in the shop to raise money for Young People Frome. The charity is using the money to offer 10 sessions throughout the year on a Sunday.Ines, 12, said she came to the session to experience what professional musicians get to experience first hand."You see it on TV but you don't feel it as much as you feel it when you're in a studio," she said."It feels nice to know that there have been lots of different celebrities recording here."Coldplay came here and Coldplay is my favourite band. There's a guitar signed by Coldplay in the other room and I got to touch it and that was incredible."
Alice, 12, added: "I'm not famous but I got the chance to come here and that's just really cool."Mr Brookes, who leads the sessions, said it "means a lot" for the young people to be able to come into the studio space."It's not often that young people can come into these environments and have a certain amount of freedom to express themselves creatively and to work together," he said.Mr Macarthur added: "There's a good chance some of the young people will be performing at our smaller venue in a couple of years time and maybe on our main stage a while after that."After the sessions, the young people have a recording of a song they get to take home with them.

Glastonbury fans recommend 'biggest up and comers' on line-up this year
Glastonbury Festival will take place in June, with the likes of The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo set to perform on the Pyramid Stage, but there are plenty more acts to see Music fans have recommended some of the "biggest up and comers" gracing this year's Glastonbury Festival line-up. Alongside headliners The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo on the Pyramid Stage, Worthy Farm is set to showcase a plethora of talents across its many stages. Seasoned Glasto-goers are recommending a wander from the main stage to witness the 'up and coming' stars of future festivals. A thread on the r/GlastonburyFestival Reddit asked: "Who are this year's biggest up and comers?" A consensus formed in the comments as numerous respondents championed one band in particular, who will be playing the festival this year. The most upvoted response reads: "Wunderhorse." Recognised for their supporting slot on Sam Fender's recent UK tour, Jacob Slater's ensemble has experienced a surge in recognition ever since. One Redditor proposed catching Antony Szmierek live, with another backing this guidance and reminiscing over his previous electrifying performance at the West Holts stage. That enthusiast shared: "Saw him in the West Holts bar last year and it was a vibe. I've seen him a few times elsewhere, the mixing can sometimes be a bit hit or miss. Would recommend!". Fat Dog received nods, singled out by one forum user as "one of the best live acts". They've also had the opportunity to warm up crowds for Yard Act during a gig at Millennium Square in Leeds. One festival-goer recounted their previous experience, writing: "I saw them last year. They were one of the best live acts I've seen in a long time. Whole crowd jumping around as one... and they played at 13:00, while everyone was mostly sober." Another attendee offered insights on potential highlights for this year's festival. They wrote: "Rachel Chinouriri has already grown so much in the last year and I think she will continue to get bigger. "I also think Alessi Rose will also start making headlines in the next couple of years, funny enough Rachel had the second slot on the other stage on Sunday last year so very similar to Alessi this year. And of course Westside Cowboy who won the emerging talent competition. "Then there are people like CMAT who have been growing at a steady rate and Inhaler are doing well as well." CMAT, a name that kept cropping up among festival enthusiasts, earned praise from someone who felt their Pyramid Stage billing was well-earned. They wrote: "I was really pleased to see CMAT is on the Pyramid stage this year. I saw her at Woodsies in 2023. She's great live. Really happy for her." Surprisingly, Lambrini Girls, the punk rock outfit from Brighton, wasn't as prominent on the lineup as one would expect. A dedicated fan expressed their disappointment, writing: "I was certain Lambrini Girls would be in a higher spot, after playing three (?) times last year and their album release I feel like they've blown up, but maybe I'm just in a bubble and they're more niche than I thought."

Here's every single artist who has headlined Glastonbury since 1970
Glastonbury Festival is legendary, pulling in some of the biggest names in music throughout its 53-year legacy, from David Bowie to Sir Elton John. Speculation over who will take to the Pyramid Stage is always huge, with The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo taking the crowns for 2025's lineup. Looking back at the incredible headliners, it's no surprise that even legends have to wait their turn (unless you're Coldplay, who, as of 2024, have played five times and hold the record for most times as headliner). Come rain or shine, Glastonbury is usually held in late June but not every year as the ground needs to recover with the occasional fallow year — just like next year. Ever since the Somerset music festival opened its doors in 1970, it's pulled in some massive names, especially for a gig that only cost £1 to get into originally. With anticipation for 2025 at an all-time high, we look fondly back at the headliners who've come before… 1970 – T. Rex Tyrannosaurus Rex (soon to be took the first-ever top spot for the launch of Glastonbury Festival after The Kinks pulled out. 1971 – David Bowie Ziggy Stardust became a headliner after Pink Floyd cancelled and, despite his icon status, he would only headline one more time. 1972 to 1977 – No Glasto! 1978 – No headliner This one is known as the 'impromptu' festival with no headliners as such. 1979 – Tim Blake and Peter Gabriel 1981 – Ginger Baker, Hawkwind, and Taj Mahal 1982 – Van Morrison, Jackson Browne 1983 – Curtis Mayfield, UB40 1984 – Weather Report, Black Uhuru and The Smiths 1985 – Echo & The Bunnymen, Joe Cocker and The Boomtown Rats The Style Council and The Pogues also performed but didn't get the top billing. 1986 – The Psychedelic Furs, Level 42, and The Cure Festival goers could also see Madness and Simply Red, with tickets costing less than £20. 1987 – The Communards, Elvis Costello and Van Morrison 1989 – Suzanne Vega, Elvis Costello and Van Morrison This year saw some firsts with the first consecutive headliners, as the festival skipped 1988, plus Suzanne Vega as the first-ever female headliner 12 Glastos in! 1990 – The Cure, Happy Mondays and Sinead O'Connor 1992 – Carter USM, Youssou N'Dour and Shakespeare's Sister 1993 – The Black Crowes, Christy Moore and Lenny Kravitz Red Hot Chilli Peppers were set in the headline slot but decided to drop out of the then £58 festival. 1994 – Levellers, Peter Gabriel and Elvis Costello Lower on the listing were some truly incredible talents and future headliners with Johnny Cash, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Blur, Oasis, and Bjork all performing at the festival. 1995 – Pulp, Oasis, and The Cure 1997 – Ash, The Prodigy, and Radiohead 1998 – Primal Scream, Pulp and Blur 1999 – Skunk Anansie, REM, and Manic Street Preachers This year saw two Glastonbury debuts from future Pyramid Stage headliners Muse and Coldplay. 2000 – Travis, The Chemical Brothers and David Bowie Fans this year were treated to an extra special show as this is the last time the Heroes legend would take to the Pyramid Stage. 2002 – Rod Stewart, Stereophonics and Coldplay 2003 – Moby, REM, and Radiohead 2004 – Muse, Oasis, and Sir Paul McCartney Bellamy, Muse's guitarist, gave the band's headlining performance some extra spark when he smashed his guitar on stage. 2005 – Basement Jaxx, The White Stripes, and Coldplay Jack White has returned to Worthy Farm since but the White Stripes split shortly after this. 2005 was also the year the legendary Kylie Minogue was set to headline but cancelled last minute. 2006 – Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and The Who All first-time headliners this year in an impressive lineup but elsewhere icon Adele was chasing pavements — 10 years before taking the headline spot. 2008 – Kings of Leon, The Verve and Jay Z Every year without fail, Kings of Leon are mentioned as possible headliners; this is the one time it proved to be true. On Sunday, Jay Z made history as the first hip hop headliner, much to Noel Gallagher's chagrin. 2009 – Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur 2010 – Muse, Stevie Wonder and Gorillaz 2011 – Coldplay, U2 and Beyonce While Coldplay returned to the festival for the umpteenth time, U2 managed to nab a headline after dropping out the year before (replaced by Gorillaz). Beyonce was the first solo female headliner since Sinead O'Connor and only the third solo female ever. 2013 – Mumford & Sons, Arctic Monkeys and The Rolling Stones 2014 – Arcade Fire, Kasabian and Metallica Dolly Parton was also here for this year's Legend slot and pulled in a massive crowd despite not headlining. 2015 – Kanye West, Florence & The Machine, and The Who Florence only took the top spot after the Foo Fighters dropped out and Ye proved a controversial choice (not for the reasons he would be now, though). 2016 – Muse, Coldplay and Adele 2017 – Radiohead, Foo Fighters and Ed Sheeran 2019 – Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure 2020 – Kendrick Lamar, Sir Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift Only it never happened because, as we all remember, the world was put on pause in the global pandemic. Sir Paul and Taylor have reunited, though, at her Eras Tour in London, while Kendrick featured on her track Bad Blood. This lineup would have been legendary. 2022 – Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Sir Paul McCartney In a slight switch-up of the promised 2020 headliners, Billie became the youngest-ever headliner while Sir Paul took the title of oldest-ever headliner. 2023 – Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses, and Sir Elton John A double debut from two icons here – both Guns N' Roses and Sir Elton had never headlined before. 2024 – Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Sza Yes, Coldplay again. It's no secret that this line-up caused a little controversy with fans complaining. However, it is also one for the history books as it marked the first time two headline slots have been taken up by female performers – it only took 54 years! More Trending 2025 – The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo Another American pop princess, Olivia Rodrigo, is set to headline and close the show on Sunday — a risky choice after Sza failed to impress but fans have faith in her ability to turn out a show. The 1975 are also a controversial one, as frontman Matty Healy has a tendency to be an absolute menace. Neil Young is probably also controversial to someone, so pinch of salt with the complaints. Other big names this year are Charli XCX being Brat and the return of The Prodigy, as well as Patchwork rumours and our legend, Sir Rod Stewart. Got a story? Dakota Johnson says she's 'psyched up for sex' after Chris Martin split
Dakota Johnson said she's 'psyched up for sex' just shortly after her split from Chris Martin. The 35-year-old actress made the confession on the heels of ending her engagement to her longtime on-off boyfriend-turned-fiancé and now-ex while chatting about her upcoming movie Materialists. The Fifty Shades of Grey star and the Coldplay singer, 48, had been together for eight years before their 'devastating' split — with an insider recently revealing exclusively to that 'their relationship has been over for a long time.' 'I don't have to psych myself up for sex scenes,' she confessed to Amy Poehler on Tuesday's episode of the comedian's podcast Good Hang. 'I'm always psyched up for sex.' The nepo baby also admitted she would have sex talks with her movie star mom Melanie Griffith. She also recalled how the Working Girl star would teach her about how 'precious and important' sex is. 'My mom raised me to be really, really proud of my body and love my body,' the daughter of Griffith and Miami Vice star Don Johnson said. 'So I've always felt so grateful for that, especially in my work because I can use it and it feels real,' she continued. She also added that her mom has 'great t*ts' while explaining that she learned from watching how her mother's self-love and how she embraced her own body. 'She's a generous person. She's extremely generous,' Johnson said about her mother. 'If you said to her, "I love your shirt," she'd take it off. 'Mostly because she loves to be naked and has great t*ts,' she added. Earlier this month, just a little over a week ago, it was revealed that Johnson and her fiancé had called off their engagement and broke up. Just days later, Martin sparked speculation with a cryptic shout-out to Dakota at Coldplay's Las Vegas show on Friday. 'Thank you so much everybody,' the Paradise singer said to the sold-out crowd at Allegiant Stadium, before unexpectedly referencing Johnson's latest film. 'Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other,' he admonished before adding, 'Don't forget to see Materialists! We love you!' in video shared by DeuxMoi. His shoutout brought on mixed reactions as some fans insisted that his support was evidence that they were still together. Others claimed that he seemed like he would still be supportive of his ex despite their separation. This week, the reason for their split was also allegedly revealed. An insider told that Johnson was ready to walk down the aisle but Martin wasn't, and it cost them their relationship. The source also claimed: 'Their relationship has been over for a long time. They just haven't been able to figure out how to make it official.' She said: 'My mom raised me to be really, really proud of my body and love my body.' The daughter of Melanie Griffith and Miami Vice star Don Johnson added: 'So I've always felt so grateful for that, especially in my work because I can use it and it feels real'; pictured May in New York City As fans spiraled over the A-list breakup, a source dished on the split on Tuesday. 'She was sick of him dragging his feet on setting a date for the wedding,' a source claimed to Page Six. Last week, source said the actress 'held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much.' The insider continued: 'Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them.' They added that there is a chance the pair may reconcile but 'right now, being separated will do wonders if they were to have any type of future together.'
