Astros player opens up on 'death threats' after horrific collision left Padres star Luis Arraez unconscious
Houston Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón was admittedly concerned about death threats after a violent collision with San Diego Padres star Luis Arraez on Sunday.
'It was scary,' Dubón said after violent incident in Sunday's loss to the visiting Padres. 'I mean, just watching him not move. It was scary. Especially people know the type of player I am. I´m not a dirty player or anything. So it sucks. Worst part about it is you get death threats from stuff like this and everything. So it´s going to be a fun ride home.'
When asked if he has received any death threats, a club spokesman told DailyMail.com: 'That's not something the Astros will comment on.'
Arraez collided with Dubón after dropping down a bunt along the first-base line at Minute Made Park on Sunday. With Houston first baseman Christian Walker moving up the line to field the dribbler, Dubón was left to cover the bag, where he and Arraez crashed into each other.
Dubón, a former Gold Glove winner, appeared to step on the wrong part of the base on the play, which may have led to the collision. Instead of putting his spike on the inside part of the bag, the 30-year-old native of Honduras stepped on the center of the base at the exact moment Arraez arrived.
He held onto the ball to record the out but quickly realized that Arraez wasn't moving in the aftermath of the collision. Both Dubón and Padres first base coach David Macias rushed in to check on Arraez, who was slumped over to his side. Trainers quickly came onto the field to tend to Arraez while nervous manager Mike Shildt and right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. watched helplessly.

It took roughly 10 minutes for play to resume as medical staff removed Arraez on cart to rush him to a nearby hospital. Since then, Arraez has issued an update saying he is fine and expects to rejoin the Padres on Monday.
Fans were largely split over Dubón's culpability on the play. While many felt the collision was unavoidable, others focused on Dubón's footwork, which directly led to the incident.
'Mauricio Dubón deserves a suspension for that extremely reckless play that cased Luis Arraez to be carried out in a stretcher. There is no way Dubón should have been on the other side of first base after catch the ball. A play like that can end somebody's career.
'Has Mauricio Dubón ever covered a base in his f***ing life,' another asked.
Meanwhile, Dubón insists he did nothing wrong.
'It was scary,' Dubón said. 'I mean, just watching him not move. It was scary. Especially people know the type of player I am. I´m not a dirty player or anything. So it sucks.'
The good news is that Arraez was not seriously hurt.
Many online were convinced that Dubón was at fault for placing his foot on top of the bag
Some called for Dubón to be suspended for what they felt was an 'extremely reckless play'
Luis Arraez, the 28-year-old San Diego Padres star and native of San Felipe, Venezuela, calmed fans' fears on Instagram by announcing he will be back with the club on Monday
'Dear fans and everyone who was concerned about me,' the 28-year-old Venezuelan star began his Instagram post, which was written in both English and Spanish.
'As you saw, I had to leave tonight's game on a stretcher after a collision during a play. I was taken to Houston Methodist Hospital, where I underwent the necessary medical tests. Thankfully, there is nothing to worry about. I'm currently resting and plan to rejoin the team this Monday.
'I truly appreciate all your prayers and kind messages,' Arraez said. 'I want to thank the medical and paramedic staff of both the Padres and the Astros, as well as those who took care of me at the hospital. Most importantly, I thank God for His protection—I'm doing well now.'
Despite Arraez's optimistic message, Shildt issued a few words of caution when speaking to reporters on Sunday night.
'Obviously, very scary,' Shildt said. 'We think he's for the most part out of the woods. More time will tell, but the initial testing is very favorable. No fractures of any sort. I mean, he got a little bit of a laceration on his jawline, so we are worried about his jaw. We are worried about his cervical region. Everything was clear, stable on the initial testing.
'We've been burned before on testing, so we will be cautiously optimistic,' he continued. 'He did have a period where he wasn't aware of where he was, so that's clearly concerning. Everything is coming back to him now, and his initial testing from a concussion standpoint was favorable, but clearly, we are not out of the woods. All things considered, that´s a blessing.'

Teoscar Hernandez's three-run blast leads Dodgers past Padres
June 11 - Teoscar Hernandez cracked a three-run homer to snap a sixth-inning tie Wednesday as the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers earned a series win with a 5-2 decision over the San Diego Padres. Freddie Freeman started the winning rally with a one-out infield single off Adrian Morejon (3-3). Jeremiah Estrada relieved and walked Will Smith, then Hernandez worked his way into a 3-1 count. Hernandez blasted the ensuing fastball over the center-field wall for his 11th homer. Lou Trivino (2-0) got the win with a perfect fifth and Alex Vesia, the eighth Los Angeles pitcher of the game, collected his third save by striking out the side in the ninth. Neither starter made it through the fifth inning despite pitching well. The Dodgers' Ben Casparius lasted four innings, allowing three hits and one run with two walks and two strikeouts. San Diego's Randy Vasquez pitched 4 2/3 innings, permitting only two hits and one run while walking one and whiffing four. The Padres initiated the scoring in the second when Martin Maldonado drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded to force in Xander Bogaerts, which salvaged one run after Gavin Sheets was thrown out by center fielder Andy Pages at home trying to score from second on Jake Cronenworth's one-out single. While Casparius recovered from that stumble to retire the last seven men he faced, Vasquez protected the lead until the fifth. That's when Michael Conforto cracked his fourth homer of the year to left-center. After Hernandez' three-run blast gave the Dodgers a 4-1 lead, Sheets lofted a sacrifice fly in the sixth to score Manny Machado. San Diego had a chance to erase the lead in the seventh when reliever Michael Kopech issued three straight walks with one out to load the bases, but Anthony Banda came in and retired Luis Arraez on a popup and induced a Machado groundout on a 3-0 pitch. Smith supplied an insurance run in the ninth with a two-out RBI single that scored Shohei Ohtani, who ripped a one-out triple. --Field Level Media

Manny Machado drives in five as Padres pound Dodgers
June 11 - Manny Machado knocked in five runs and Dylan Cease earned his first win since April 2 as the San Diego Padres routed the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 11-1 on Tuesday. Cease (2-5), who went 10 starts without a victory after topping the Cleveland Guardians in his second outing of the year, fired seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball. He walked five but set a season high with 11 strikeouts. Los Angeles went with a bullpen game, but after opener Lou Trivino pitched a scoreless first, bulk reliever Matt Sauer (1-1) took a pounding. He allowed 13 hits and nine runs over 4 2/3 innings with three walks and six whiffs. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts waved the white flag after Xander Bogaerts' two-run single upped the margin to 9-0 in the sixth, bringing utility man Enrique Hernandez off the bench to work the last 2 1/3 innings. Los Angeles did avert the shutout in the eighth via Michael Conforto's RBI single, but by then, the outcome was long decided. San Diego finished with 16 hits, three each by Machado, Bogaerts and Luis Arraez, who scored four runs. Arraez initiated the scoring in a three-run third, lining a two-out double down the right field line that scored Fernando Tatis Jr. from first on a close play. Machado dumped an RBI single to right-center and Jackson Merrill followed by ripping a triple into the right field corner. Martin Maldonado upped the lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a double-play ball with the bases full that scored Bogaerts. Machado made it 5-0 an inning later by lining an RBI single to left-center that plated Arraez. The Padres, whose previous nine games were all decided by one or two runs, made it a rare laugher with four more runs in the sixth. Maldonado led off the inning with his third homer, a shot estimated at 381 feet to left, while Machado tacked on an RBI grounder before Bogaerts' two-run single. Machado finished San Diego's scoring in the seventh by drilling a two-run single off the top of the left-center-field wall. --Field Level Media

Dodgers score twice in 10th inning, hold off Padres
June 10 - Andy Pages' RBI double snapped a 10th-inning tie and lifted the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-7 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday. Pages laced a 1-1 pitch from Wandy Peralta (3-1) to the left field wall, scoring Max Muncy, the automatic runner to start the inning. Tommy Edman added a run-scoring single off second base to provide a cushion. Kirby Yates (4-2) worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn the win, and Tanner Scott picked up his 12th save despite yielding a one-out RBI double to Jackson Merrill in the 10th. Scott got a popup from Gavin Sheets and a flyout from Xander Bogaerts to end it. Freddie Freeman finished with three of the Dodgers' 12 hits, while Pages and Edman each added two. Manny Machado was the only San Diego batter with two hits, while teammate Tyler Wade hit a three-run triple. Neither starter was involved in the decision. Los Angeles' Dustin May lasted five innings, permitting six hits and six runs, five earned, with four walks and a strikeout. San Diego's Nick Pivetta pitched four innings and yielded five runs, four earned, off eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Each team scored twice in the first. The Dodgers got their runs on Freeman's RBI double and Will Smith's sacrifice fly, while the Padres countered via Machado's run-scoring double and Merrill's sacrifice fly. San Diego took a 3-2 lead in the second when Jake Cronenworth scored from third on Smith's throwing error with two outs as the catcher tried to nab Fernando Tatis Jr. stealing second. That was followed by a wild third inning that saw each team plate three runs. The Dodgers tied it on Teoscar Hernandez's sacrifice fly and gained a 5-3 lead on Smith's sixth homer, a two-run blast to left that traveled an estimated 378 feet. But the Padres erased that deficit and went up 6-5 on Wade's bases-clearing triple, just past the sliding Hernandez in right-center. Los Angeles equalized in the fifth on a two-out RBI double into the right field corner by Hyeseong Kim. The Dodgers have won two games in a row while the Padres have dropped four of their past six. --Field Level Media
