JPMorgan to allow clients to buy Bitcoin, CEO says

Yahoo19-05-2025

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said that the asset management firm will allow its clients to purchase Bitcoin. The firm will, however, not custody the cryptocurrency, he added.
"I am not a fan" of Bitcoin, the billionaire CEO clarified. He was addressing the company's Investor Day on May 19 when he made these remarks.
With a market cap of $740 billion, JPMorgan Chase is the world's largest bank that has more than $4 trillion in assets under management.
Dimon's concession to the cryptocurrency is noteworthy, given his earlier characterization of Bitcoin as "fraud" in September 2017.
In fact, Dimon told Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) during a Senate Banking hearing on Dec. 6, 2023, "I've always been deeply opposed to crypto, bitcoin, etc... You pointed out the only true use case for it is criminals, drug traffickers, money launderers, tax avoidance . . . If I was the government, I'd close it down."
As per Kraken, Bitcoin was trading at $103,365 at press time.
Regarding the blockchain technology that forms the infrastructure of the crypto economy, Dimon said it doesn't matter as much as you think.
Note that the Wall Street giant only recently settled its first transaction on a public blockchain on May 14. The settlement involved tokenized U.S. Treasuries.
Dimon claimed that geopolitical risk is very high and the tariff rates, even if lowered, are still "pretty extreme." On May 12, the U.S. and China lowered tariffs on each other for a temporary period of 90 days as they negotiate further.
The CEO also shared his views on the U.S. economy during the talk and said he wouldn't take stagflation off the table. Stagflation in an economy refers to persistent high inflation in tandem with high unemployment and stagnant demand.

Cboe Launches New Bitcoin ETF BuyWrite Indices

Cboe Global Markets Inc. (CBOE) launched new spot Bitcoin ETF BuyWrite indices last week, offering investors covered call strategies designed to generate income from cryptocurrency exposure while managing volatility. The introduction of these Bitcoin ETF indices represents a new approach for investors seeking cryptocurrency exposure with income generation potential, as traditional buy-and-hold Bitcoin strategies face increased volatility, according to a press release from the firm. The exchange operator introduced three indices tracking different Bitcoin ETF covered call strategies, according to the announcement. The BXGBTCA index, which writes monthly call options, delivered a 25.3% annualized return compared to a loss of 10.6% for the underlying Bitcoin ETF benchmark, the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC), according to performance data from November 2024 through April 2025. Cboe's BXGBTCA index also reduced annualized volatility to 39.7% versus 50.7% for the GBTC benchmark, according to the report. The covered call approach generated monthly option premiums averaging 5.5%, calculated as the bid price of short call options divided by the closing price of underlying assets. The BXGBTCT index, writing calls on roll days, recorded a 9.2% annualized loss with 53.7% volatility over the same period, according to the data. Maximum drawdowns reached 29.2% for BXGBTCT compared to 28.5% for the benchmark GBTC. Monthly option yields for the BXGBTCA strategy peaked at around 7% in January 2025, while BXGBTCT yields reached just under 2% during the same month, according to the release. The performance difference stems from the timing of option-writing relative to Bitcoin ETF price movements. Cboe positioned the indices as tools for navigating cryptocurrency volatility while seeking income through covered call premiums, according to the release. The launch follows growing demand for sophisticated crypto-linked investment solutions as digital asset markets continue to evolve. The indices build on existing derivatives-based cryptocurrency products as more investors seek structured digital asset exposure, according to Cboe. The exchange operator views the launch as part of efforts to broaden cryptocurrency investment options beyond traditional buy-and-hold | © Copyright 2025 All rights reserved Sign in to access your portfolio

Jim Cramer says Circle Internet stock is 'too hot' to buy up here

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday examined Circle Internet, a stablecoin issuer that made a splash during its market debut last week, saying he'd wait to buy the stock until it has retreated from recent highs. "Circle Internet Group's a solid company, but the stock, right now, has gotten too hot for me. I can't recommend it up here," he said. "Why don't you let it cool off before you even think about pulling the trigger." Circle Internet founded USDC, a dollar-pegged stablecoin meant to act as fiat money on the internet. USDC is the second-largest stablecoin on the market behind Tether's USDT. The stock opened at $69 last Thursday after being priced at $31, and shares soared 168% during the session. Cramer likened stablecoins to casino chips in the crypto currency space, explaining that they can be used to buy other cyrpto currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, but retain their value. According to Cramer, Circle Internet's stablecoin business is more transparent than that of Tether, saying it's unclear what the latter is doing with its reserves. USDC, however, is backed by genuine reserves of fiat currency, with Cramer calling it "a more sanitized, less-sketchy version of the stablecoin concept." He was also impressed with Circle Internet's financials, saying it seems business is good and USDC is popular. But it's hard to justify buying shares when the company's valuation has swelled dramatically, from $5.5 billion to around $25 billion in a matter of weeks, Cramer said. Plus, he continued, the company is still linked to the ever-volatile crypto ecosystem, telling investors they'll "get a better buying opportunity simply by being patient." Cramer warned that the IPO market in general is "starting to get a little crazy here," pointing to CoreWeave, an artificial intelligence infrastructure outfit that went public in March. The Nvidia-backed company was the biggest tech IPO in the U.S. since 2021, and it closed flat at $40 after its first day of trading. But now the stock trades at about $162, which Cramer said he finds to be a little extreme. "This is the type of action that gets people hurt, so I need you to be a little careful." Circle Internet and Tether did not immediately respond to request for comment. Click here to download Jim Cramer's Guide to Investing at no cost to help you build long-term wealth and invest

BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF becomes fastest-ever ETF to accumulate $70 billion

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the largest Bitcoin exchange-traded fund on the market, has attracted $70 billion in total assets more quickly than any other ETF, adding a new milestone to its long list of accomplishments. BlackRock's IBIT, the most popular of 12 available Bitcoin ETFs, set the record on Monday, 341 days after its debut, according to Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas. IBIT reached that mark '5x faster than the old record held by GLD of 1,691 days,' Balchunas wrote on X, referring to asset manager State Street's famous gold ETF. While other asset managers like Fidelity and VanEck also offer Bitcoin ETFs, BlackRock's version is the largest by far. After IBIT's $70 billion in total assets, Fidelity's FBTC comes in second with $20 billion and Grayscale's GBTC comes in third with just under $20 billion. ETFs are a type of investment vehicle, traded on the stock market, that track the price of one or more underlying assets. The fees ETF issuers charge are usually less than mutual funds and offer a simple way to diversify an investment portfolio. Before the introduction of crypto ETFs last year, Invesco's QQQ trust ETF, which tracks the Nasdaq, and Vanguard's VOO ETF, which tracks the S&P 500, were among the most popular. IBIT and 10 other Bitcoin ETFs from various companies launched at the beginning of last year after gaining long-awaited regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The debut of the first Bitcoin ETFs showcased strong investor demand for access to the cryptocurrency's price movements, with IBIT accumulating over $1 billion in assets under management within its first four days on the market. By November, BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF had surpassed its gold fund in total assets, becoming the largest of the 1,400 funds the asset manager offers globally. But the record-breaking did not slow down after that. In December, IBIT became the fastest ETF to hit $50 billion in assets under management, five times quicker than BlackRock's iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF which took nearly four years and invests in companies outside of the U.S. and Canada, according to Balchunas. 'IBIT's growth is unprecedented,' Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart told the outlet at the time. 'It's the fastest ETF to reach most milestones, faster than any other ETF in any asset class.' Since their launch last January, increased flows into Bitcoin ETFs have coincided with increases in the currency's price. For example, as Bitcoin hit an all-time of $111,900 in late May, the total net assets across all 12 Bitcoin ETFs reached an all-time high of over $134 billion. This story was originally featured on
