44 Affordable Alternatives Reviewers Swear Are Better Than The Name Brand Versions
1. E.l.f.'s Hydrating Core Lip Shine — specifically in the shade "Ecstatic" — because reviewers and TikTokers swear it's an almost-perfect alternative to Clinique's $25 " Black Honey" lip tint, but for a fraction of the price. It might not be color-changing based on skin tone, but it still makes for an incredible lippie that conditions and nourishes your lips underneath its sheer hue!
Here's what BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord has to say: " I personally will live, breathe, and die by the magic of $25 "universal" Black Honey version — it lasts FOREVER and also functions as the perfect blush — but it sells out so often that I am also deeply relieved to know it has a cheap alternative in case of lip emergency!"
Promising review: "I absolutely love this product. The dark color is perfectly sheer. It also adds the most beautiful color to your lips. I am a Clinique Black Honey lip fan, and this gives me the same look for a fraction of the cost. I love it and have multiple that I keep in various spots. Not sticky either, which is my biggest gripe about lip glosses. My hair doesn't get stuck in this like some glosses, but I get the shine." — Hamps5

2. A set of square stemmed wineglasses that even Olivia Pope would be envious of because of their contemporary elegance. These compare to the more expensive Crate and Barrel glasses, but reviewers say they are a lot more durable. Sure, your wine may only cost $12, but it'll taste a lot more expensive in these.
Promising review: "We've had four of these glasses for over six months now and finally just added four more to our collection. These glasses are SO CHIC and are very similar to ones sold at Crate & Barrel but are MUCH more durable. Unlike the C&B glasses, you can cheers without feeling like the glasses will break. In fact, they've tipped over in the sink a few times and are still intact. They dry beautifully, sparkle after the dishwasher and we get so many compliments on them. I love them!" — Katie B

3. L'Oréal Paris Makeup True Match Lumi Glotion, a lightweight tinted moisturizer that goes on effortlessly and is formulated with a blend of glycerin and shea butter to keep your skin hydrated underneath! It delivers a similar shimmery, dewy glow to your complexion as Glossier Futuredew, which retails for over twice the price.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising review:"Love love love this stuff. This is such a stellar product that is so versatile. Can be worn alone to put some glowy life to skin. Add to foundation or layer it. Beautiful. Use it as a base where you put highlighter on top. Mix some with moisturizer. This, in my opinion, is better than so many high-luxury brands that make similar products. And I am pretty sure it can be used by all skin types. It's not an oily feeling at all, and it doesn't dry out the skin either. Just a total package. Can't beat the price either." — Figgy08
Get it from Amazon for $13.98+ (available in five shades).
4. A pair of high-waisted ~DreamLux~ leggings that reviewers compare to the more expensive Lululemon Align ones. Everyone is obsessed with their ultra-comfy stretch and ridiculously soft, moisture-wicking material that makes it feel like you're wearing next-to-nothing — so much so they end up buying several!
Another rave review from BuzzFeeder Emma Lord:"I bought these on Prime Day, which is the only day I will buy leggings because I hate wearing leggings with a burning passion. My "I'm not like other girls" bit is that for some reason I am always comfier in jeans than leggings. BUT NOT THESE!!! They slide on. The fabric is so lightweight and breathable that it feels like a whisper. The band is so deceptively comfortable that sometimes I'm like, "Am I still wearing them??" I use them to run outdoors because that is the only circumstance I'll wear leggings, and I'm happy to report after several washes, they are durable and compressive enough to withstand workouts. They would be excellent for lounging if I weren't wired in this odd anti-legging way. I have already bought two more pairs and made my friends buy them, too."
Promising review:"Super comfy. I usually don't write reviews, I tried this first before buying Lulu, and these are the most comfortable leggings for every day and even for workouts. Highly recommended!" — Criselle Johnson
Get them from Amazon for $29+ (available in women's sizes XXS–XXL, two inseams, and 22 styles).
5. Catrice "Instant Awake" Under Eye Brightener featuring a lightweight, color-balancing formula infused with hydrating hyaluronic acid and nourishing shea butter for a reliable coverage solution that's nothing short of magic. Reviewers even compare its quality to concealers and brighteners by Becca or Bobbi Brown!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
The color-adaptive formula is designed so one of two shades will work on any skin tone.
Promising reviews: "By far the best under eye corrector I've tried. I have naturally brownish under eyes and always use a corrector before concealing. This one is better than the popular, more pricey Bobbi Brown corrector I was using. I have medium to warm skintone and used shade warm nude." — Keyla
"Took years off my eyes! This product is so reasonably priced. I came across a TikTok promoting this and decided to take a chance since the price was super reasonable. My eyes looked brighter in a good way, and the concealer worked so well that I felt I looked younger. I got compliments from friends asking what I did differently with my makeup. I recommend it." — Placeholder

6. A pair of reusable high-waist period underwear created with organic cotton for super-absorbency (up to nine tampons' worth of blood) on the heaviest of days. A four-layer design with a moisture-wicking top soaks everything up before you can even feel it, so you can navigate each day of your cycle with confidence that you're leak- and odor-free! What was the name of that other brand at over three times the price again?
The Period Company
These can also be used for postpartum bleeding and incontinence — check out the rest of their styles for different flows and occasions here!
I've been a reusable period product girly for years now, so when I got the chance to try out period underwear from The Period Company, I jumped at it! I had previously been using Thinx, but those felt more like wearing a diaper and then did not hold up through washing (lots of lint, pet hair, and dust getting stuck in the gusset). THESE DO NOT. These are so comfortable and not ridiculously thick, even the heavy coverage ones! I am a fan of the high-waisted version because it offers a lot of coverage, but having worn the bikini ones as well...you really can't go wrong! They are so absorbent and it doesn't even seem like I'm actively bleeding as much as I know I am because there's barely any evidence until I go to rinse them! I like to wear them as a backup to my go-to period discs, but I've worn them solo before and still highly recommend for comfort, sleeping with overnight protection, and to depend on when you need everyday protection! Also, the sizing is very spot-on — with other brands, I've had to size up in the plus sizes, but these are true to size and honestly run a little big depending on the kind of fit you prefer!
The Period Company is a woman-founded small business offering a range of reusable period products including pads and a wide variety of absorbent underwear.
Promising reviews: "The idea of period underwear grossed me out tbh. But after multiple cycles of bleeding through my pajamas onto the sheets, I was desperate. I just used these for the first time and I'm never going back!! Super soft and comfortable, and NO LEAKS. I'm definitely going to buy more for the rest of my period!" — Melody R.
"I'm a longtime Thinx user and I heard about these online somewhere, can't remember where exactly. The lower price per pair, the commitment to being PFAS-free, the design being similar to Thinx's now-retired cotton brief design (RIP) in a way that I liked… I figured I should give y'all a try because my old standbys from Thinx had gotten accidentally tossed in the dryer too many times anyway and were losing their absorbency. Anyway, I'm so glad I did!!! I went a whole 8+ hours without having to change on one of the heavier days of my period. Couldn't say that about Thinx. The fit is great, too — delightfully high-waisted, handles bloating/extension like a champ. Thank you, thank you, thank you. These are my new go-tos from here on out!" — n

7. Juno & Co.'s Clean 10 Cleansing Balm formulated with pearl barley and vitamin E to hydrate and nourish your skin during cleaning. You only need a dime-size amount and this balm melts on contact into an effective removal oil that works SO MUCH BETTER than disposable wipes. Some reviewers even compare it to pricier makeup removers from brands like Dermalogica, Farmacy Green, and Elemis!
Amazon, www.amazon.com
Juno & Co. is a small business based in California specializing in sustainable, yet effective skincare.
Promising review:"I've loved the Farmacy Green Clean for many years, but at $30+ for a jar that lasts 1-2 months max, it was a pricey product to buy on a regular basis. I wanted something just as good at a lower price and I FOUND IT! This cleanser absolutely melts away makeup and deep cleans the skin without any drying or eye irritation! It smells great and a little goes a loooonng way — I'm in love!" — Amazon Customer

8. A two-piece lounge set that looks very similar to a popular name brand's version and features a knit button-up cardigan and matching lounge pants. It's perfect if you often wake up and don't want to search through your closet for something to wear because this set offers a casual look you can wear out and about, as well as around the house.
Promising review:"I have received many compliments on this two-piece se t. They wash up nicely and I air dry them as most of my clothes. My younger daughter loved it so much that she often steals it to wear. I can dress it up or dress it down. Looks great with my Adidas Sambas or the Dolce Vita slides. Great functionality as you can wear it to relax and watch Netflix all day long or go shopping or travel. Great value for the money the material is an appropriate thickness where it is not too heavy, but yet gives you some warmth." — rupert

9. A moisturizing body wash infused with white jasmine, red currant, and sweet amber, so you can smell like autumn without having to spend the big bucks. Reviewers swear this is a budget-friendly alternative to the $$$ Baccarat Rouge 540 soap. No one will know the difference!
Here's what BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord has to say: "I bought this after being peer-pressured by all the lovely reviews, and I'm happy to report it lives up to the hype. The scent is lovely — it has depth with a hint of floral, but it's light and not at all overpowering. My favorite thing about it is how easily it pairs other scents, because I am a body mist gremlin who swaps out her scents every day. The lather is also deeply satisfying and I feel quite refreshed and squeaky clean without ever feeling dry."
Promising review:"Cremo's body wash is nothing short of exceptional. If you're a fan of luxurious fragrances, this product will quickly become your new favorite. It boasts an incredible scent that perfectly mimics Baccarat Rouge 540 — a fragrance renowned for its sophisticated and captivating aroma. What sets this body wash apart is not just its stunning scent but also its longevity. The fragrance lingers beautifully throughout the day, ensuring you stay enveloped in that luxurious aroma long after your shower." — Ralph D. Thompson II

10. A bottle of the top-rated Elizavecca hair treatment, which helps restore and repair damaged hair that's been through... a lot (AKA dye jobs, heat damage, and even sun damage). Packed with collagen and ceramide 3, this protein treatment brings your hair back to life and has some reviewers even saying it's better than the much more expensive Olaplex treatment!
Reviewers with everything from thin, fine hair to 4c curls have reported positive results from this moisturizing formula, which is particularly recommended for folks whose hair is damaged from using hot tools, bleach, and the like.
Promising review:"Like many others, I tried this as a replacement for Olaplex. Honestly, Olaplex never had a great effect on my hair and certainly wasn't worth the price. This did an unreal job on my hair!! I was skeptical (tried a little bit first because I was petrified it would burn off my hair and I would end up bald!) but, lo and behold, it was magic! My hair is so strong, silky, and healthy looking after just one use. Plus, you can't beat the price! Have already ordered another box. I should also add I have curly/wavy hair that's been colored to a light brown. Buy it!!" — BB

Promising reviews: " I've tried a few brands and this is my favorite by far. It really gives you a soft glowy airbrushed look to your skin. It looks natural still but it takes away some minor imperfections. I really love this stuff." — Kristin
"I'd yet to find anything (even foundation) that could cover up my red areas. Checks, chin, nose, and forehead. It comes out green, but has a gorgeous lightweight finish of a tint that indeed covers my redness beautifully. There's no greasiness to it at all. It dries down to a beautiful matte finish. It's super easy to use. I use my fingers. The texture is like silk. It leaves my face baby-soft, not sticky at all. It doesn't settle into my fine lines or wrinkles, and I don't need powder to 'bake' it under my eyes. It also covers the black circles under my eyes." — Julie F.
Get it from Amazon for $9.98 (available in six styles).
12. A TikTok-famous "Soft" perfume rollerball with scent notes so sweet and warm, you'll smell like a walking bakery when you wear it around. Seriously, reviewers compare the blend of vanilla, vetiver, and citrus zest to lemon pound cake, fresh scones, and even this $65 bottle of Pink Sugar. *spritz spritz spritz*
Promising reviews: "I have been wearing Pink Sugar for a long time and read a review comparing the perfume to it. I am super happy! I absolutely love it! It smells a lot like my Pink Sugar, but with a little more warmth. And... it lasts much longer!" — Patty Harley
"Like so many, I found this scent on TikTok. I was a bit skeptical at first but finally got around to trying it. First off, this scent smells amazing! Almost every time I've worn it, I receive compliments. It has a sweet smell, almost like warm cake or sugar cookies with a hint of lemon. With such an affordable price, I would definitely recommend this to anyone curious about trying it." — Chrissy

Promising reviews: "This perfume smells amazing. Almost exactly like YSL Black Opium and it lasts for a long time. An entire evening out at a Brazilian steakhouse and still smelled the scent on my clothing when I returned home." — Aaron Mitchell
"Gorgeous scent! I love perfumes, and I'm super picky. I either love or return. This scent is gorgeous. Smells a bit sweet but not overly sweet, not super vanilla, just a hint of it with sophistication. Very soft and sultry. I applied moisturizer (thin, thin layer of Vaseline) and then sprayed perfume. It stayed on my skin for probably over eight hours. I checked my sweater the next day you could easily smell it on my sweater. Definitely worth the money." — Amazon Customer

14. Briotech topical skin spray featuring an alcohol-free, dermatologist-approved formula that contains hypochlorous acid — the main ingredient in the more expensive Tower 28 SOS Spray, BTW — for targeting the kinds of bacteria that lead to skin irritation, acne, and other blemishes. And according to reviewers, you can even use it to offer non-drying relief for skin problems like dryness, dermatitis (even on your scalp!), and toenail fungus!
Promising review: "This spray is amazing. I had a rash on my face and it disappeared after one use of this spray. I had a stye in my eye and the skin around the eye was irritated. This spray fixed not only the irritation but the stye went away as well. Any sort of blemish or acne is taken care of with this simple inexpensive spray. Great for after-sun care or workout redness. Everyone loves Tower 28's expensive SOS spray. The SOS spray contains hypochlorous acid, which is the exact same ingredient in the Briotech spray for much less money. It's a miracle worker." — Squid466

15. E.l.f's Lash XTNDR Tubing Mascara that uses innovative "tubing" technology to wrap around your eyelashes and deliver natural-looking length and volume with a smudge-proof finish. Plus, the "tubing" makes it SO much easier to remove your makeup without any specialized cleaners or abrasive scrubbing! Not-so-falsies for less than $10? NEED.
Check out a TikTok of the E.l.f. tubing mascara in action.
Here's what BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord (pictured above) has to say: " I am not a new human to the tubing mascara game, and in fact readily spent $26 on the famous OG blend from Blinc every time it needed replacing. I didn't even love it for the length half as much as the fact that tubing mascara like this genuinely never smudges, but can I just say — regardless of price, the E.l.f. tubing mascara formula blows all the others I've tried out of the water. It gives me way more length and volume than other brands, slides on so much more easily, stays put ALL day, and never, ever smudges. My favorite part, though, is how gently and easily it comes off with soap and water. In the past, other mascara removals have felt rough on my lashes, but this comes off so fast that I'm like ??? was I even wearing mascara a minute ago?? Anyway, I hesitate even writing this review because I want to gatekeep the hell out of this before it sells out, but the world needed to know. I'm a big fan of the brown shade (which is what I'm wearing above!), but it also comes in black and soft black."
Get it from Amazon for $7 (available in three shades).
16. Eos' Shea Butter Vanilla Cashmere body lotion for anyone who wants to keep their skin silky smooth and moisturized with a smell SO GOOD that some reviewers say it's just as great as (if not better than) more expensive lotions.
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising reviews: "Heaven sent for your skin; heavenly scent to enjoy. This feels absolutely amazing going on. Gets absorbed quickly, for a lotion rich with oil. Doesn't leave a greasy feeling, as long as you give it a minute or two to fully absorb. The scent is, for me anyway, like aromatherapy. It smells like an iced sugar cookie, and is a great base layer for fragrance. Very relaxing." — Dragonheart Jo
"I love everything about this lotion! I had been using a body butter that was ten times as expensive, but I was looking for a cheaper alternative and I am SO glad I found this! I immediately ordered three more bottles." — Samantha

I feel like these are ideal for people who still want to hear some of the world around them (read: parents, people working in open offices), but still want to listen to their tunes comfortably. The charge on these goes for at least four hours (I haven't tried it beyond that yet), and the Bluetooth connects to my devices super easily. Excellent pair of headphones for the price point."

Promising review: "The perfect non-name-brand ring you can find honestly. I wasn't looking for a Cartier knock-off when I found this ring, but I have had people ask me if it's the real deal. I honestly love this ring though, the sizing was accurate, it is weighted well, none of the 'diamonds' have fallen off, and it hasn't tarnished! I've worn it daily for almost a year now and it has held up well. It has some very small scratches on it, but that's typical of most rings. Promising reviews: "I've used Glow Recipe's Watermelon Dew Drops, and while I liked the product I wasn't too fond of the strong scent or the price point. The texture, finish, and feel of this product is pretty much identical, but without the fragrance and at a better value. Smooth, absorbs quickly, works well as a lightweight primer that doesn't pill with makeup, and subtly evens skin tone over time." — K.C.
"Love these drops. So effective, a little goes a long way. Great for a boost of hydration, especially in the colder and/or drier months. Great as a primer before makeup to smooth the skin. Such a value for a product that packs a punch. My skin hasn't looked better!" — Ken

Promising review:"I have the Skims bodycon as well, and this is a great alternative! The Skims dress is ribbed, and the fabric is thinner and softer, but I don't think that the Skims dress quality increases proportionally with the higher price point. It's one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe!" — Makayla Curtis

Lip Mask is leaps and bounds a better product. I like the consistency better, it's not quite as thick. I put it on each night before I go to sleep, and right away I've noticed my lips are just a bit plumper and have a nice healthy color. This means a lot for [people] post-menopause when your lips actually begin to shrink!" — Amazon Customer
"If I could give this lip mask 100 stars, I would. What is there not to love about this product? It's beyond moisturizing and quite soft as you put it on, like butter. The scent has me perplexed. Not sure that's the correct word to use. I know that scent. It reminds me of something from the '70s or '80s. The scent takes me back, but to where I do not know. AAAA++++, it's a must-buy!" — Stina
Get it from Amazon for $7.
31. An oversized, lightweight knit button-up cardigan that makes a perfect easy-to-shed layer when the AC is blasting inside, but it's warm outside. Reviewers liken this chic cardigan to the Jenni Kayne "Cocoon" cardigan...except that one is over $300. 👀
www.amazon.com
Promising review: "I have (and cherish) a Jenni Kayne cocoon cardigan. It's in basic beige and while I've dreamed of adding more colors to my wardrobe, these sweaters are like $500. That's kind of an undertaking. I took a chance on these and I'm so glad I did. I ordered this sweater in both Gray and Navy and I was blown away by the quality of this [alternative]. The cashmere cardigan from JK is softer and cozier, but these have an amazing comfy weight to them and a very smooth weave that washes well. It's the same look for much less money, and I can wear them with comparatively little worry. These don't snag easily. Super impressed!" — Alexis Dawdy
Get it from Amazon for $17.99+ (available in women's sizes XS–XL and three styles).
32. A classic herringbone necklace because someone would have to get real up close and personal with your décolletage in order to tell the difference between this luxe-look piece and its *chokes* $65,000 Tiffany counterpart. Maybe one day, but not today, and you shouldn't have to sacrifice your style because your budget is tight!
Amazon
Promising review: "I've been thinking about purchasing the Tiffany version of this necklace, but when I saw this one, I decided to purchase it. So glad I did. It is beautiful and very substantial. When I first put it on, couldn't believe the weight, in a good way. Feels and looks expensive, and the color of the gold is perfect, in my opinion; not too yellow or orangey. Love, love, love this necklace!!!" — FAXA10
Get it from Amazon for $19.94 (available in two finishes and three styles).
33. An affordable cult-favorite luxury-scented candle that burns reeaaaaal slow, so you can enjoy the warm aroma of jasmine, oud, and sandalwood throughout your living space. www.amazon.com
Lulu Candles is a small business creating a wide range of aromatic candles and perfumes.
Promising review: " I have been searching high and low for a good candle that's reminiscent of Le Labo's Santal 33, and this is it! And for a fraction of the cost. This will definitely be a repeat purchase, please don't ever discontinue this scent!" — Lindsay Fordham

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising reviews:"I've been looking at these sunglasses at Bottega Veneta for months but just couldn't justify spending the hundreds of dollars because I lose sunnies so often! These are EXACTLY THE SAME! The weight of them, the detail on the sides. The only difference is the brand name is not on the side (obviously LOL) Love these so much!" — Shelley Cooper

www.amazon.com
Promising review: "I bought the Benefit version a couple of months ago and was very underwhelmed by it, but this product is sooo soo much better than Benetint. The pigment is so good and natural at the same time. A 10/10 for sure. And at this price point what's there not to like?" — Rachael
Get it from Amazon for $7.40+ (available in four shades and combo packs).
36. A sophisticated croc-embossed laptop tote that looks ridiculously close to the triple-digit Beis bag, but for significantly less. Not only is this workbag a steal, but it's also designed with a large capacity to hold your laptop, current read, pencil case, and whatever else you need to get through the day like the efficient busy bee you are!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising reviews: "It's much more spacious than it looks. It's very sleek and stylish. I use it as my work bag and find that it looks professional and has enough space for all of my stuff. I carry a laptop, pencil case, two books, makeup bag, water bottle, wallet, lotion, phone and laptop charger, and other small miscellaneous objects. Still plenty of space. And when you carry it, it doesn't feel bulky or cumbersome." — Su
"I bought this bag in a pinch when my company sent me a replacement laptop that didn't fit in my old work tote. SO happy with the purchase. This bag fits my work laptop..., my personal laptop, my iPad, my portfolio, my kindle, and chargers for them all, with room to spare. The material is pretty good quality and has stood up well so far to my frequent travel. It looks so high quality that I had a coworker who owns a Beis bag say that our bags look the same. But, honestly, I think this bag is better than the Beis work tote (a controversial statement, I'm sure). So much so that when I got a Beis bag for Christmas I ended up returning it so I could keep using this tote! — Hannah Rolund
Get it from Amazon for $27.99+ (available in nine styles).
37. A bottle of Nyx matte setting spray because you want to be confident that your makeup actually makes it to *and* through the day without worrying about sweating, crying, or wiping it off. Reviewers even say this spray is comparable to the more expensive setting sprays by Mac and Urban Decay!
www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
BTW, the formula is vegan and cruelty-free!
Promising review:"Expensive isn't always better. I tried this spray before spending the day outdoors in 90-degree heat at Disneyland, and the only place my makeup moved was on the tip of my nose because I have allergies and use a lot of tissues. But otherwise it looked as fresh as it did when I put it on. I've used Mac and Urban Decay setting spray and they never worked as well as this stuff. I am completely amazed. Definitely give it a try." — DH
Get it from Amazon for $9.97+ (also available in dewy and radiant finishes, and a jumbo size).

Promising review: "Best Amazon purchase in awhile. As other reviews have said, this is the perfect, affordable but still high quality [alternative to] a different, wildly expensive brand. The bag is TSA compliant which was the most important thing for me, but it is also well made, very sturdy, and the shape of it makes it easy to organize my liquids by laying them down rather than forcing them all to stand up. Even the packaging was beautiful. 10/10 would recommend." — RZ
Get it from Amazon for $15.99+ (available in four sizes, two styles, and eight colors).

www.amazon.com, www.amazon.com
Promising review: "What can I say, I saw a TikTok about this lipstick, and for $10 had to try it! The reviews are right, for some reason, this lipstick is better than even $20 name-brand ones bought from Ulta. Not only does it smell great, but dries in under a minute and survived eating a cupcake, a Starbucks drink, and an entire evening out, no smudging, and had to be removed with a makeup wipe. LGBTQ Representation In Movies Hits 3-Year Low, GLAAD Finds
After reaching a record high in 2022, LGBTQ representation continues to decline in movies. On Wednesday, GLAAD released the 13th edition of its Studio Responsibility Index (SRI), which found that LGBTQ-inclusive films dropped to 23.6% of releases from 10 top studio distributors during the 2024 calendar year, down from 27.3% in 2023 and 28.5% in 2022. More from Deadline Pride Month Viewing: 20 Buzzy LGBTQ Movies Of 2025 'I Don't Understand You's Husband Writing-Directing Duo Talks "Horror Movie" Adoption Experience, "Amazing" Italian Crew & Their Son's Cameo 'Queer as Folk' Cast Reuniting For 25th Anniversary At Pride Live! Hollywood, Plus 'Golden Girls' Birthday & Norman Lear Tribute The SRI also found that, only two films (less than 1%) featured transgender characters; 37% of LGBTQ characters had less than one minute of screen time; only 27% had more than 10 minutes of screen time, down from 38% last year; LGBTQ characters of color made up the lowest percentage since 2019 at 36%; and there were no LGBTQ characters living with HIV in any of the 250 films tracker. 'This year's findings are a wake-up call to the industry. At a time when LGBTQ people are facing unprecedented attacks in politics and news media, film must be a space for visibility and truth,' said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD president and CEO. 'Representation isn't about checking a box — it's about whose stories get told, whose lives are valued, and creating worlds that mirror our own society today. When done authentically, LGBTQ representation builds audience and buzz, while humanizing LGBTQ people as those in power are actively working to take away our humanity.' Meanwhile, gender parity was reached among LGBTQ characters for the first time in five years, at 50% women, 48% men and 2% nonbinary; and A24 was the only studio to receive a 'Good' rating with the highest percentage of LGBTQ films. Looking at releases from A24, Amazon, Apple TV+, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery, as well as their subsidiaries and streaming services, films were judged based on the basic standard for meaningful LGBTQ inclusion, as outlined by GLAAD's Vito Russo Test, named after a co-founder of the organization. The 2024 titles that passed the Vito Russo Test include Love Lies Bleeding (A24), Problemista (A24), My Old Ass (Amazon), Drive-Away Dolls (NBCUniversal), Mean Girls (Paramount Pictures), Fancy Dance (Apple TV+), Good Grief (Netflix), Rez Ball (Netflix), Sweethearts (Warner Bros. Discovery), Housekeeping for Beginners (NBCUniversal), The Radleys (Lionsgate), Ricky Stanicky (Amazon), Between the Temples (Sony Pictures Entertainment) and Prom Dates (The Walt Disney Company). Following the Trump administration's attacks on DEI and recent attempt to cancel Pride Month, several LGBTQ films are finding their ways to the screen this year. Last-Minute Father's Day Gift Idea: An Infomercial Icon for 27% Off
If you're still blanking on what to buy Pops for Father's Day, I come with deliverance. We've assembled the best last-minute Father's Day gifts, all of which either off super-fast shipping or require none at all. You won't be the black sheep of the family this year — or if you are, it's not because failed to get Dad a gift. But there are even more great gift ideas popping up and catching our eye with each passing second — that can still make it to your papa if you act quick. The Magic Bullet, aka the GOAT of small and idiot-proof (trust me) blenders, is currently 27 percent off, and if you order today, it will arrive before Sunday. I have a surprising amount of fondness for the informercial-famous Magic Bullet. I'm not just talking about the seamless pleasure of using the small appliance, which is revered for its ability to pulverize everything from onions to ice at the touch — actually, it's more like a bop — of the top of its blending chamber. Decades later, the Bullet is still my Proustian appliance of choice, reminding me of simpler days spent sitting on a shag carpet, slamming Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and watching its dancing blades steal the show from all the other As Seen on TV products. (Minus the Shake Weight, of course.) The first Bullet I blasted off was actually at the house of my then best friend's dad, who was very in-the-know, loading up on DVDs and treating his kids to the spoils of the Furby universe. All of this to say: I think every self-described 'hip and food-loving dad' has, at some point in his life, dreamed of firing up a Magic Bullet. Luckily, the Magic Bullet of today is more affordable than it was decades ago, and you don't have to order it with a rotary phone. This saucy little model, for example, is an 11-piece set that includes BPA-free plastic cups for blending, a 250-watt motor base, a to-go lid, and a 10-second recipe guide. You know, so your dad can finally make that iconic omelet from the infomercial. The Magic Bullet is 27% off on Amazon .
