Pennsylvania state police charge Connellsville man in high-speed, multi-vehicle crash that injured another driver

A Fayette County man is facing charges after a multi-vehicle crash critically injured another man on Saturday night in Bullskin Township, state police said. Matthew McKnight, 46, of Connellsville, is accused of speeding and leaving the scene of the crash at the intersection of East End Road and Memorial Boulevard. State police said they were called to the scene of the three-vehicle crash just after 10:30 p.m. Two drivers, 67-year-old Martin Halfhill and 76-year-old James Blackburn, both also from Connellsville, were stopped in their vehicles in the left-hand turning lane at Memorial Boulevard, state police said. While stopped, state police say McKnight's speeding Dodge Ram pickup slammed into the back of Blackburn's minivan, pushing it forward into Halfhill's SUV. Blackburn was severely injured in the crash and flown from the scene by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, state police said. He remains in critical condition. State police said McKnight left the scene after the crash, but troopers later found his pickup parked near his home. It has "extensive front-end damage consistent with the crash," investigators said. He is in state police custody and awaiting arraignment on the charges he is facing. McKnight is listed on the Fayette County EMS website at as the Assistant Director of Operations. Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele calls the charges "concerning and disappointing." He has released this statement to KDKA on Sunday afternoon. "The charges are very concerning and disappointing in light of Mr. McKnight's employment; that will not, however, affect how we prosecute this matter," Aubele said. "We are awaiting updates on the condition of James Blackburn, the victim in this incident, and we will release more information as it becomes available. Mr. McKnight is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." State police and the Fayette Count District Attorney's Office continue the investigation.

International manhunt underway for British man accused of 'Magaluf hit-and-run that injured two'

An international manhunt is underway for a British man who was accused of mowing down two people, including a British teenager, in a 'hit-and-run' in Magaluf. A warrant has been issued for Jack Benjamin Hulme, 31, who had allegedly been drinking before he drove his hire car into a crowd in Majorca on March 23, 2023. He reportedly knocked down a British man, 19, and sent a Polish woman, 20, flying in the air. He was released on bail by a Spanish judge following 36 hours in custody, but an arrest warrant has been issued after he failed to respond to court officials' attempts to contact him. The ongoing judicial case has been suspended until Hulme is located. Hulme, who faces extradition following his arrest, is facing trial on five offences. Three people standing next to the victims managed to run out of the way and reach safety as the car veered towards them, The Mirror reported. Footage of the incident showed the Polish woman lying unconscious on her back as the car sped away. Hulme allegedly had an argument with another British man whose girlfriend had fallen out with his partner prior to the incident. He allegedly stormed off before mounting the pavement outside a fast-food restaurant and hitting two pedestrians, who were reportedly not involved in the dispute. Hulme was arrested at nearby Son Matias beach and initially held on suspicion of attempted homicide. He was later charged with lesser offences, including two counts of wounding, reckless driving and drink-driving. Both victims of the alleged hit-and-run survived without serious injury. In his initial court appearance, Hulme alleged he had not intended to run anyone over, but could not see properly because someone had 'sprayed him in the eyes' with an aerosol. A judge reportedly lost his patience with Hulme, who had to register contact details with court officials as part of his bail conditions. A spokesman for Spanish police previously said: 'A British man who was on holiday in Majorca has been arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide following an early-hours hit-and-run incident in Magaluf.' They added: 'He was held at nearby Son Matias beach after a police search for him and his vehicle. The incident was preceded by some sort of argument that is still under investigation. 'One of the people hurt was a Polish woman and the other a British man. Both were also on holiday in the area.'

3 arrested after shooting, hit-and-run crash in Detroit

Three people are in custody after a shooting and a hit-and-run crash in Detroit on Saturday night, police said. The shooting happened around 7 p.m. on the 19000 block of Rowe Street on the city's east side. Laurie Carter with the Detroit Police Department said shots were fired into a home that had people inside and at a vehicle. No one was injured. Police said the people involved in the shooting then left the area in a black Chrysler. A law enforcement helicopter later found the Chrysler, which officials said was involved in a hit-and-run crash. Police said the Chrysler hit a vehicle and then crashed into a house. A female who was in the vehicle that the Chrysler hit was taken to the hospital. Carter said she "appears to be okay." A 21-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a third male in the Chrysler were arrested after attempting to leave the crash scene on foot. Police said they recovered two Draco rifles.
