Top executives depart Tesla after months of turmoil and sales slump

Top executives have recently departed Tesla after months of turmoil caused by CEO Elon Musk 's stint in politics and a sales slump at the electric car company.
Troy Jones, vice president of sales, service and delivery in Tesla's North American market, left the firm after 15 years, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Several other Tesla higher-ups have left the company in the past year.
Milan Kovac, a vice president of engineering who oversaw Tesla's development of its humanoid robot Optimus, announced his departure in June.
'This week, I've had to make the most difficult decision of my life and will be moving out of my position. I've been far away from home for too long, and will need to spend more time with family abroad,' Kovac, who had worked at the company for more than nine years, wrote on X at the time.
He added: 'I want to make it clear that this is the only reason, and has absolutely nothing to do with anything else. My support for @elonmusk and the team is ironclad - Tesla team forever.'
Jenna Ferrura, Tesla's director of human resources for North America, has also left. Bloomberg reported in June, citing people familiar with the matter, Ferrura no longer appeared in the company directory.
Omead Afshar, who oversaw sales and manufacturing operations in North America and Europe, has departed the company as well.
Forbes reported in June, citing people familiar with the matter, Afshar was fired by Musk after being promoted to his position in October. Bloomberg called Afshar one of Musk's 'closest confidants,' working at the company since 2017.
The E-suite shakeups come during a rough few months for Tesla. Musk made waves among a key demographic of EV buyers when he led President Donald Trump 's Department of Government Efficiency. Musk left the White House in late May, and his relationship with Trump quickly soured.
There have been protests at Tesla dealerships and even some cases of attacks on property at car showrooms and lots, charging stations and involving privately owned Tesla cars.
Against this backdrop, Tesla's global vehicle sales dropped 13.5 percent in the second fiscal quarter of 2025, the Journal reported earlier this month.
The company reported worse-than-expected Tesla deliveries. There were 384,122 Tesla vehicles delivered in the second quarter, off the 387,000 estimate from analysts, according to FactSet.
Tesla's stock has also significantly decreased over the past six months. The stock was at around $413 per share on January 16, compared to about $308 per share on Tuesday, according to MarketWatch.
The company has been trying to entice customers with an updated Model Y midsize SUV and a cheaper version of its Cybertruck.
June was a particularly big month for Tesla as the company unveiled new versions of its Model S and Model X luxury cars and launched a pilot of its robotaxi service in Austin.

The design is unique, with rounded surfaces, tiny overhangs and a sloping glass tailgate. By relocating the engine and freeing up space at the front of the car, the Renault Twingo has a turning circle to rival a London Taxi. There's lots of body roll and the Renault tends to fidget over bumpy roads, but although wind noise builds at higher speeds, it's comfy enough. You can get a 2016 Renault Twingo with 20,000-miles on the clock for under £7,000. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson claims billionaire and CEO Elon Musk changed his phone number after his public falling-out with President Donald Trump. Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, told The New York Post he discovered the change while trying to text Musk amid the 'Big, Beautiful Bill' drama. Johnson previously said Musk ghosted him after the billionaire blew up at Trump over the sweeping spending and tax bill, which cuts taxes for wealthy Americans while curbing access to healthcare and food access programs for millions. 'I sent him a long text message, and then his phone number changed, because after the blow-up, something happened with his,' Johnson told The New York Post. '[Later I] realized I was sending it out into the ether somewhere and he never read it, so I look forward to meeting with him in person,' he added. 'We got to make that right.' Musk, once known as the 'First Buddy,' sparked a public feud with the president last month over the 'Big, Beautiful Bill,' Trump's sweeping spending and tax bill. Trump signed the bill on July 4. But for a month leading up to its passage, Musk railed against it, arguing it would increase the budget deficit by $2.5 trillion. 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore,' Musk wrote of Trump's bill on June 3. 'This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.' Musk spent several months this year leading the Department of Government Efficiency 's efforts to slash government spending. Under his leadership, DOGE laid off hundreds of thousands of federal employees, hollowed out several agencies and terminated thousands of government contracts and grants. Musk and Trump continued to spar until June 5, when the former DOGE leader claimed the president appeared in the Epstein files. 'Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,' Musk wrote. 'That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!' Tensions appeared to ease soon afterward. Musk expressed 'regret' on June 11 for the posts he made about the president, while Trump revealed he had 'no hard feelings' toward Musk. Soon after the bill was signed, Musk announced that he would be forming the new 'America Party.' 'When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,' he wrote on X. Trump called the idea 'ridiculous.' The chief executive of embattled booze giant Diageo will step down after two years marred by profit warnings, supply woes and a sharp fall in market value. Diageo, which owns Guinness as well Johnnie Walker whisky and Gordon's gin, on Wednesday revealed finance chief Nik Jhangiani will take the reins on an interim basis after Debra Crew stepped down with immediate effect. The Wednesday afternoon update followed shortly after a report in the Financial Times claimed Diageo was on the hunt for Crew's successor. Diageo told investors Crew had stepped down 'by mutual consent' and it has already started a 'comprehensive formal search process' that will consider both internal and external candidates. Chair John Manzoni said: 'The board's focus is on securing the best candidate to lead Diageo and take the company forward.' Crew became chief executive in June 2023, having served as a non-executive director, president of Diageo North America and group chief operating officer. Diageo shares, which have lost more than 40 per cent since the beginning of June 2023, added 2.8 per cent on Wednesday afternoon. The group, like many firms in the sector, has seen weaker sales as cash-strapped and health-conscious drinkers have turned away from premium booze in recent years. It is also shouldering the impact of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of US trade tariffs, while supply issues last year saw UK pubs run short of Guinness. In response, Diageo launched the first phase of its Accelerate programme, which it expects to deliver about $3billion in free cash flow each year from 2026, supported by $500million in cost savings over three years. Manzoni said: 'On behalf of Diageo and the board, I would like to thank Debra for her contributions to Diageo, including steering the company through the challenging aftermath of the global pandemic and the ensuing geopolitical and macroeconomic volatility. 'We strongly believe Diageo is well placed to deliver long-term, sustainable value creation.'
