Tripura CM launches Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan
Agartala: Tripura CM Manik Saha initiated the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan on Thursday at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district, spanning 864 locations as part of a national fortnight-long initiative to connect with individual farmers.

The special agricultural awareness programme is being overseen by ministers, MLAs, and public representatives, with scientists and experts reaching out to village farmers. The initiative aims to demonstrate the government's steadfast support to farmers through technological advancement, skill development, and monetary aid.

has made it clear that farmers are the backbone of India's economy and they have been provided with several benefits and encouragement to scale up agricultural production," Saha said, adding, nearly 200 agricultural scientists have joined the campaign in the state.
The initiative, focusing on agricultural self-sufficiency before the Kharif season, will run until June 12, aligning with the national programme. The state anticipates a visit from Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during this period.
Each district has established three committees. Daily sessions with 200 farmers are scheduled at 9-11am, 12-2pm, and 3-5pm. These committees include representatives from agriculture, horticulture, animal resources development department (ARDD), fisheries, agricultural scientists, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ICAR, Agricultural and Veterinary Colleges, and successful farmers.
The state will host 72 meetings throughout the campaign. Additionally, 24 Krishi Raths will be deployed, featuring banners and informational content about various central and state agricultural schemes, including horticulture, ARDD, and fisheries.
The chief minister stated that the programme intends to educate farmers about govt schemes, advanced farming techniques, organic cultivation, and contemporary agricultural technology.

'Operation Shield': These states will conduct mock drills today (May 31). Check timings, other details
Civil defence drills or mock drills are being conducted on Saturday, May 31, across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Jammu and Kashmir under 'Operation Shield'. Launched on the home ministry's directive, the initiative is designed to enhance emergency preparedness amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Initially planned for May 29, the drills were delayed due to administrative reasons. The exercises will simulate multiple emergency situations, underscoring the heightened emphasis on national security. Earlier, a mock drill was held on May 7, following the India-Pakistan tensions amid the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Officials identified critical gaps in the civil defence preparedness. A Punjab government spokesperson told Hindustan Times that in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 19 of the Civil Defence Rules, the Union ministry of home affairs, has decided to hold the second civil defence exercise. These mock drills will help in preparing for emergency situation and ensure preparedness among different states. Chief secretary of the revenue department (Gujarat), Jayanti Ravi, told ANI that during the mock drill, various actions will be carried out related to ensuring readiness of the local administration around civil security. She also said that this will include young volunteers like NCC, NSS, Bharat Scout and Guide and include setting up a hotline between the Air Force and the Civil Security Control Room regarding enemy aircraft and missile attacks. During this time air raid sirens may be activated. In Punjab, Special Director General of Police Sanjeev Kalra told ANI that the exercise would simulate a large-scale emergency situation. He added that fire services and representatives of the armed forces will also be involved in it. Civil defence drills are set to take place on May 31 across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Jammu & Kashmir under 'Operation Shield.' In Haryana, a total of 32,000 volunteers will take part in the drill across the state. In Rajasthan, the mock drill is scheduled to be held across all 41 districts, including Jaisalmer. According to official sources, the mock drill in Rajasthan will begin at 5PM, although the exact location in Jaisalmer district has been kept confidential. Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Amritsar, Amit Sareen, told Hindustan Times that, 'A blackout drill will be conducted in the district from 8pm to 8.30pm in which inner areas of the district will be exempted.' On Friday, the Government released two data sets on the provisional estimates of India's economic growth in the fourth quarter (Q4, January to March), and for the financial year (2024-25 or FY25). Based on this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India has sustained the fastest-growing economy tag for the fourth year now, thanks to firm industrial growth in manufacturing. The data: India's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) gained strength, picking up pace to 7.4 per cent in the fourth quarter. The full-year growth rate, however, is estimated to have slowed to a four-year low of 6.5 per cent for financial year 2024-25. This has stayed resilient, remaining at the same level as the second advance estimate of 6.5% released February-end. What the data show: Now, GDP is calculated by adding up all the expenditures made in the economy. Linked to it, the Gross Value Added (GVA) looks at the supply side capturing the true momentum of the economy. It measures the contribution of each sector and excludes the effects of taxes and subsidies, which can distort GDP figures. For FY 25, the real GVA grew by 6.4 per cent, losing a step over the 8.6 per cent growth in FY24. No sector has recorded growth at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) anywhere close to 6 per cent since 2019-20. RBI should increase gold-to-loan ratio to 85%, says Tamil Nadu MP S Venkatesan
MADURAI: MP S Venkatesan, during a press meeting here on Friday, said that the RBI should increase the gold-to-loan ratio amount to 85% of its market value and return the new circular regarding the repayment of gold loans. He added that he recently met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and requested her to instruct the RBI governor to take back the new circular that was released on gold loan repayment. Following this, Sitharaman instructed the RBI that the draft regulations on gold loans do not impact small borrowers. Hence, the RBI should exempt those who have borrowed small loans up to Rs 2 lakh.' He further requested the RBI to increase the gold-to-loan amount up to 85% of its market value. Banks do not face any challenges in giving gold loans. The BJP government should right off 70 per cent of corporate loans. However, stringent rules should be implemented on the repayment of gold loans. Condemning the ASI for asking Archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna to revise his report on Keeladi excavation, Venkatesan said, 'Keeladi excavation findings are scientific evidence of Tamil ancient culture. In such a situation, it seems like the BJP is trying to hide the truth by asking Ramakrishna to revise his report.' He also stated that the CPM will organise rallies across the state from June 11 to 26 for addressing the people's issue.
