RBI should increase gold-to-loan ratio to 85%, says Tamil Nadu MP S Venkatesan

MADURAI: MP S Venkatesan, during a press meeting here on Friday, said that the RBI should increase the gold-to-loan ratio amount to 85% of its market value and return the new circular regarding the repayment of gold loans.
He added that he recently met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and requested her to instruct the RBI governor to take back the new circular that was released on gold loan repayment. Following this, Sitharaman instructed the RBI that the draft regulations on gold loans do not impact small borrowers. Hence, the RBI should exempt those who have borrowed small loans up to Rs 2 lakh.'
He further requested the RBI to increase the gold-to-loan amount up to 85% of its market value. Banks do not face any challenges in giving gold loans.
The BJP government should right off 70 per cent of corporate loans. However, stringent rules should be implemented on the repayment of gold loans. Condemning the ASI for asking Archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna to revise his report on Keeladi excavation, Venkatesan said, 'Keeladi excavation findings are scientific evidence of Tamil ancient culture. In such a situation, it seems like the BJP is trying to hide the truth by asking Ramakrishna to revise his report.'
He also stated that the CPM will organise rallies across the state from June 11 to 26 for addressing the people's issue.

‘Mamata stooped low to appease vote bank by opposing Operation Sindoor': Amit Shah

The home minister alleged that senior TMC leaders were complicit in the violence in Murshidabad in April, which broke out during protests over the contentious Waqf Amendment Act. 'The way a TMC minister incited the violence, it can be said that the Murshidabad riots were state-sponsored,' he claimed. 'The MHA kept on insisting about the deployment of BSF during the Murshidabad riots, but the TMC government didn't allow it to happen so that the violence could continue. If BSF personnel had been deployed, Hindus would have been protected. It was only after BJP workers approached the high court that the BSF was finally sent in,' he alleged. At least three people died and several others were injured in the April riots. This was Shah's first visit to West Bengal since the Murshidabad clashes. Sharpening his attack on Banerjee for the state of affairs under her rule, Shah said, 'Today, Mamata didi has turned this great land of Bengal land into a hub of infiltration, corruption, atrocities on women, crime, bomb blasts and mistreatment of Hindus.' Hitting out at the state government for obstructing national security efforts, he said, 'Mamata Banerjee is opposing the Waqf Amendment Act for appeasement politics.' The home minister also accused the ruling TMC of facilitating illegal cross-border movement. 'The Bengal elections will not only decide the future of the state, but it is also linked to the security of the country. Mamata Banerjee has left Bengal's borders open for Bangladeshis. Infiltration is taking place with her blessings. Only the BJP government can stop this,' he said. Responding to the TMC's criticism of the BSF's inability to stop infiltration, the senior BJP leader said the Mamata Banerjee-led government has not given the required land to the BSF. 'Once the TMC government gives BSF the required land, we will stop infiltration. But, it would never give land to the BSF, as the party wants infiltration to continue so that it can remain in power,' he claimed. Shah also accused Banerjee of failing to take a firm stand on issues of national security. 'During previous regimes in which Mamata didi was also a minister, no steps were taken to deal firmly with terror attacks. But our PM Narendra Modi took firm measures against terror attacks by destroying terror camps across the border. But, Mamata didi has a problem with it,' he said. 'For the sake of her vote bank, Mamata didi has crossed all limits of stooping low. A few days ago, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed our innocent citizens in front of their families after asking them about their religion. Operation Sindoor was carried out to punish these terrorists. The headquarters of the terrorists were destroyed by entering Pakistan. However, Mamata didi was pained over the death of these terrorists. She opposed Operation Sindoor by issuing a cheap political statement,' Shah said. He said that under Operation Sindoor, the central government conducted a deep strike 100 km into Pakistan, targeting terrorist headquarters. 'Numerous terrorists were killed, but this seems to trouble Mamata ji. By doing so, you are not only opposed to the mission, but also disregard the sentiments and emotions of the women of our country,' Shah said.

BJP's Amit Malviya junks P. Chidambaram's negative view on economy

BJP leader Amit Malviya on Sunday targeted former finance minister P. Chidambaram for painting a grim picture of the economy and linking it to alleged wage stagnation and consumer exploitation due to lack of competition in some sectors. Chidambaram's attempt to credit the UPA government for economic reforms also did not go down well with Malviya who wrote in a post on social media platform X: 'It's truly pitiful how a former Finance Minister displays such selective amnesia regarding India's economic journey.' 'To claim that the concept of 'profit not being a bad word' originated solely during his tenure conveniently ignores the reality that those reforms, however necessary, were half-baked measures, forced by a crippling Balance of Payments crisis,' said Malviya, in-charge of BJP's National Information and Technology Department. Earlier, the Congress leader, in a post on social media platform X, said: 'That 'profit' in business is not a bad word became government policy in 1991 when Dr Manmohan Singh was finance minister.' 'The question is how the profit must be shared among promoters, shareholders, labour, government, consumers, society and other stakeholders,' he said. Malviya responded by saying, 'The former Minister pontificates on profit-sharing, yet seems to forget the UPA era's notorious legacy — the 'Jayanti Tax', rampant corruption scandals, and an environment of policy paralysis that left India languishing among the 'Fragile Five.' Big industries weren't just hesitant, they were actively looking for exits. Profit sharing? Under the UPA, profits seemed reserved for a select few, while genuine enterprise was stifled.' 'Jayanti Tax' is a term used by the BJP to allege corruption under the then environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan in matters related to granting green nod to projects. While slamming Chidambaram, Malviya also showcased the NDA government's flagship schemes. 'Initiatives like MUDRA Yojana and Stand Up India have empowered over 30 crore aspiring entrepreneurs, fostering grassroots prosperity and ensuring the fruits of growth are shared far more widely than ever conceived during his tenure. That is tangible benefit-sharing, not hollow rhetoric,' he wrote in his post. Earlier Chidambaram remarked about the economy and said, 'As the Chief Economic Adviser has said many times, the tilt is in favour of capital/promoters and against labour. Wages have stagnated.' 'I may add that because of lack of sufficient competition, consumers are exploited in several sectors, for example, air travel, insurance and pharmaceuticals,' he said.
