LIV Golf confirmed for March 2026 as Steyn City set to host biggest sporting event in SA
LIV Golf is coming to South Africa for the first time, and it will take place at luxurious Steyn City in Johannesburg.
The league has made a multi-year commitment to expanding its league to the African continent.
The inaugural LIV Golf South Africa event will be held from 20 to 22 March and will be one of the new stops on the lucrative league circuit.

It's a milestone championed by the all-South African Stinger GC team, which includes captain Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Dean Burmester, and Branden Grace.
It will be the biggest event in South Africa since the 2010 FIFA World Cup because it will be the most lucrative since then.
In LIV's 14-event schedule, $20 million (about R350 million) is up for grabs in the individual portion of the 54-hole tournaments this year, with $5 million (about R88 million) in the pot for the team competition.
The winner of a LIV Golf event will take home a huge $4 million (about R70 million) cheque, while the winning team title will fetch and share $3 million (about R53 million).
This will see the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith play in South Africa.
'It's always special to compete at home, and I'm incredibly proud to bring LIV Golf to South Africa for the first time,' said 2010 Open winner Oosthuizen.
'For Branden, Charl, Dean and I to play in front of our fans, friends, and families will be an unforgettable experience.
'South African sports fans love their golf, and I am sure they will turn out in large numbers to support Stinger GC. South Africa has given so much to us, and now we get to give something back.'

New Zealand's stunning late catches secure dramatic tri-series cricket win over South Africa
HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Two spectacular catches in the last over delivered by fast bowler Matt Henry earned New Zealand a dramatic three-run victory against South Africa in the final match of the tri-series on Saturday. Michael Bracewell pulled off a sensational catch on the edge of the boundary at mid-wicket to dismiss dangerman Dewald Brevis for 31. Daryl Mitchell then dived full-length to grab a stunning two-hander off George Linde at long-on as South Africa was restricted to 177-6 and the Black Caps lifted the title. Earlier, New Zealand made 180-5 with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra both scoring 47 and Tim Seifert hitting 30 after South Africa had won the toss and elected to field. Henry the hero Brevis brought down the target to seven runs in the final over of tournament's highest wicket-taker Henry when he smashed two sixes against Jacob Duffy in the 19th over that featured a one-handed baseball-like swipe over long-on to a wide full toss. However, Henry conceded just three runs in the 20th over to finish with 10 wickets in four games. New Zealand ended the tournament as the only unbeaten team with host Zimbabwe losing all four matches. Lhuan-dre Pretorius (51) and Reeza Hendricks (37) gave South Africa a scintillating start by racing to 92-0 in fewer than 10 overs before the Proteas lost four wickets for 39 runs. Pretorius' first notable innings in the tournament featured two sixes and five fours before he was deceived by off-spinner Bracewell and stumped by Seifert. Hendricks then tried to pull Zak Foulkes' short ball but couldn't clear Conway at backward square leg. Captain Rassie van der Dussen (18) and Rubin Hermann (11) were also caught in the outfield, leaving South Africa needing 50 off 29 balls. Brevis' power-hitting took South Africa close before Henry held his nerve and saw New Zealand over the line. 'It is a game of millimeters,' van der Dussen said. 'The whole series was about trying things and experimenting a bit, and today settling on our strongest possible combination. We played a pretty good game.' Challenging total The opening pair of Seifert, who led the batting charts in the tournament, and Conway had given New Zealand a flying start with 52 runs in the powerplay. Van der Dussen then took a superb catch at short cover to dismiss Seifert as he tried to clear spinner Senuran Muthusamy (1-27). Conway perished in the 12th over when he top-edged Lungi Ngidi (2-24) before Mark Chapman dragged the fast bowler to deep mid-wicket. Nandre Burger and Kwena Maphaka also bowled well and didn't allow New Zealand to break free in the final five overs, with Ravindra caught at deep mid-wicket after a fluent knock that included two sixes and four fours. 'Guys stepped up at different is outstanding,' New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner said. 'The guys were ready and clear on how to operate and that makes it easier.' ___ AP cricket: The Associated Press

LIV Golf UK: Joaquin Niemann, Torque GC Take Control in Round 2
ROCESTER, England – On Saturday, Joaquin Niemann took complete control of LIV Golf UK. The Torque GC captain shot an 8-under 63 to open up a commanding 6-shot lead. Niemann, who is 14-under through two rounds, shot 30 on the front nine, which is the lowest front nine score recorded at JCB Country Club across the five rounds played during LIV Golf events. His 63 was the lowest round of the day. The Chilean is aiming to win his fifth LIV Golf tournament of the season and seventh overall, both of which would be LIV Golf records. Torque GC leapt to the top of the team leaderboard and will enter Championship Sunday leading Legion XIII by three shots. Chasing Niemann on Sunday will be Bubba Watson, who is putting an impressive week together. The RangeGoats GC captain shot a 3-under 68 to reach 8-under for the tournament, good for solo second place. One shot behind Watson at 7-under are Paul Casey (3-under 68), who is now the leading Englishman through two rounds at JCB, Adrian Meronk (1-under 70), who struggled to get much going in Round 2 and Caleb Surratt (3-under 68). Surratt, LIV Golf's youngest player, continues to play well after going low in the final round at Valderrama, a performance that helped Legion XIII win the team title. Talor Gooch of Smash GC also climbed the leaderboard with a 5-under 66, and is 6-under for the tournament, which puts him in a tie for sixth alongside four other players: Charles Howell III of Crushers GC, Tom McKibbin of Legion XIII, Carlos Ortiz of Torque GC and Marc Leishman of Ripper GC. Lee Westwood of Majesticks GC couldn't get much going on Saturday. The fan-favorite shot a 1-over 72 and slipped to T14 on the leaderboard. Niemann's domination, supplemented by Carlos Ortiz' rounds of 66-70, vaulted Torque GC to the top of the team leaderboard. Sebastian Munoz also played extremely well on Saturday, shooting a 5-under 66. Mito Pereira shot a 1-over 72 after an even par 71 in Round 1. Torque is looking for their first win since LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023. Torque GC holds a three-stroke lead over Legion XIII, who are looking to win for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season. The home team, Majesticks GC, is now ninth on the team leaderboard as it seeks to earn its first podium finish since 2022. JCB played much more difficult in Round 2 than it did in Round 1, with a course scoring average of –0.36 compared to yesterday's –1.27. In addition to the final stretch of holes 15–18, holes 4, 6,7 and 8 played over par, with 6 once again playing as the most difficult (+0.33). TEAM SCORES LIV Golf's new scoring format this season now involves all four scores now counting in every round in the team competition. New putter, new caddie, old Bubba? Watson sits in second after 36 holes at LIV Golf UK
Bubba Watson has been playing well of late. How come? He insists it's a new caddie and a new putter. The two-time Masters champ is in the thick of things after two rounds at LIV Golf UK, shooting a solid 3-under 68 at JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester to sit at 8 under, and in second place heading into Sunday's final round. Yes, Watson is a half-dozen strokes behind leader Joaquin Niemann, but he's looking to post his third top-7 finish in six starts, following a T-7 in Mexico City and a T-4 in Virginia. Watson said he's entering the final round with a positive mindset, and hoping that Niemann comes back to the pack. "I'm going to play it the same way. I've played well the last couple days. It's up to him. It's his golf tournament to win as of right now. If he goes out and plays half of what he's doing today, he wins it. We've got to shoot 10-under or something like that," Watson said. "You're just going to come out and try to have the best finish you can, and if he doesn't start off hot maybe you put pressure on him and you can challenge." As for the putter, which has been serving Watson well in the past few months, how did he come to the change? "I talked to Peter Uihlein, who's on my team. He's well-known for being a great putter. Probably top 5, top 10 in the world in putting. I'd say top 5. So I asked him what he did, and he told me he works on his stroke, works on trying to get the stroke the same every time. He told me a couple things to do, a couple training aids, a couple different things to use," Watson said. "Then I went back to the Ping engineers and asked them what kind of putter do I need. I need something that can hit it harder but also keep the ball on line if you mis-hit it. So we went to a mallet. I got a mallet, a Tyne putter, and it's working so far. I'm getting them to the hole. "In my career I usually leave them a little short so they're usually just missing because I like to die the putts, and now it's getting a little bit harder. Without changing my stroke, it's getting a little bit harder, so more are going in. It's exciting, and I've been calm, working on the mental side of it, and I've been calm out there on the golf course, and it's paying off." While Watson is looking to add some key points to help push him from his spot at 31st in the LIV Golf standings, he knows numerous players are out there clawing and scracthing as the season winds down, hoping to get a contract for next season. "There's a lot more stress, 100 percent. There's a lot more stress. Not knowing the number ... I do know the number, but not knowing the number, how many guys are without a contract next year, so there's people that are stressed. They're trying to get top 24. They're trying to stay in the top 48. There's a lot of movement. There's a lot of having to step up and hit great golf shots because they know what's on the line to be in an elite league like this. They want a contract. They want to be able to play here next year, so there's a lot of stress out there for sure."
