Watch: 'Black Phone 2' to open in theaters Oct. 17
Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeline McGraw and Jeremy Davies are reprising their roles from the original 2022 blockbuster, while The Nun and The Grudge alum Demian Bichir is joining the ensemble for the follow-up.
Both Blumhouse films were written, produced and directed by Scott Derrickson, whose credits include The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Doctor Strange.
"Four years ago, 13-year-old Finn (Thames) killed his abductor and escaped, becoming the sole survivor of The Grabber (Hawke). But true evil transcends death... and the phone is ringing again," a synopsis said.
"As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen (McGraw) begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake," the summary continued.
"Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family's history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine."
A 2-minute trailer released Sunday has already gotten 1.6 million views since it was posted on YouTube.

"This is very fresh. I haven't seen anything quite like this before in my whole life," Morrison, 64, told UPI in a recent Zoom interview. "At the end of the day, I want Hawaiian people to be proud and reclaim themselves, reclaim their identity and feel proud about their Hawaiian heritage," the New Zealander added. "We're blessed because we're all the same people." We are representing all these people and I am playing her ancestor. Fortunately for me, she never hit me on the head with her microphone, so I must have been on the right track." Premiering Friday on Apple TV+, the nine-episode series takes place in 18th century Hawaii when the islands' leaders disagreed about whether they should peacefully unify or conquer each other. Jason Momoa co-wrote and produced the action drama, in which he also plays Ka'iana, the titular hero. Morrison plays his frenemy Chief Kahekili and Cliff Curtis plays Keoua, another rival king. "Jason needed some support posts around him. He knew Cliff and I had the experience in this medium," Morrison said. "We were humbled to get the opportunity. Personally, it was quite an adventure, spiritually, culturally. We all had to learn the Hawaiian language. That was quite challenging." Morrison admitted he initially had some reservations about taking on the pivotal role in such an epic. "I'm very, very grateful that I decided to do this project because I was trying to run away in the beginning. I didn't think I could do it," he recalled. "Then, there were things like the cold. We were running around with hardly any clothes on. My feet aren't as hard as our Polynesian ancestors' used to be. Every now and then, I'd be like: 'Ah! Ah! Can I wear my shoes, please, please!' The volcanic rocks were killing me, but what a journey it's been." It was Hawaiian-born Momoa who convinced Morrison to join the epic project. "Jason said: 'Bro, bro, we're the same people, man! We're the same people. Get on board!' So, with those words of encouragement, I said, 'Yeah, bro, you are right. I think it's about sharing our Polynesian culture and heritage and supporting one another," Morrison said. Fear the Walking Dead and The Meg alum Curtis, 57, described his and Morrison's characters as the antagonists of the story. "The hero's journey is shown through the character Ka'iana, played by Jason Momoa. He's the chief who left the Hawaiian islands, went into the world and came back with technology to help unite the islands," Curtis said. "The chief of war has to choose which king he is going to fight for. It's a classic, archetypal story structure. Even though there is a new language and new costumes, visages and things that look different, the classical structure is something that all of humanity can relate to and recognize themselves in it." The geopolitics of the bygone era mirrors what some people are still experiencing in 2025, Curtis noted. "As we look back to our past, we see our ancestors struggle with the very same things as our current situation in the world," he added. "To live in peace or live in war." US Open launching dating show during grand slam tournament
Watch out, 'Love Island,' there might be a new reality dating show sweeping the nation in a few weeks. The U.S. Open announced Thursday that it would be filming, producing and releasing its own YouTube series called 'Game, Set, Matchmaker,' which 'fuses the emotional rollercoaster of a dating show with the electric energy of one of the world's biggest sporting events,' according to the announcement. The eight-episode show will be filmed during the U.S. Open Fan Week at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, following one single — dubbed 'The Champion' — as she attempts to find love with one of her seven matches. Advertisement Long Island native Ilana Sedaka, a 24-year-old former figure skater turned pilates instructor who lives in Miami, will be the show's bachelorette, with the eligible bachelors consisting of influencers, tennis superfans and social personalities. Watch: Toni Collette hides an academy's dark secrets in 'Wayward'
July 31 (UPI) -- Netflix released a trailer for Wayward, a thriller series about an institute for troubled teens starring Toni Collette and series creator Mae Martin. The teaser, released Thursday on YouTube, suggests there is something sinister lurking beneath the surface of the institute for troubled teens in the seemingly ideal town of Tall Pines. Martin stars as Alex Dempsey, a police officer who moves to town with his pregnant wife, Laura (Sarah Gadon). Collette (Hereditary) plays Evelyn Wade, the mysterious leader of the Tall Pines Academy. "After an escape attempt from an academy for 'troubled teens,' two students join forces with a newly local police officer, unearthing the town's dark and deeply rooted secrets," the official synopsis reads. Martin, who created the series and also serves as co-showrunner with Ryan Scott, said some of their own life experiences helped inspire the series. "I was a wayward teen in the early 2000s, and my best friend was sent to one of these troubled teen institutes when she was 16," they told Netflix's Tudum. "She came back and had just the craziest stories about it." The series also stars Sydney Topliffe, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Brandon Jay McLaren, Tattiawna Jones, Isolde Ardies, Joshua Close, Patrick J.
