Welsh football team named worst in UK ends 74-year wait for trophy
Cwm Albion rose to prominence by losing all their games and racking up an astonishingly bad -191 goal difference in the Swansea Senior League Division 4 just two seasons ago.
However, the team has since enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in fortunes, culminating in winning the Maes-Y-Gollen Cup last weekend in what was their first final since 1999.

Albion saw off Talycoppa AFC in a tense 2-1 victory, with goals coming from Richard Davies and Gary Halligan, who struck either side of Lee Jones' equaliser.
The result caps a hugely impressive rise for the club, who once drafted in former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp in December 2023 in a bid to turn around their staggeringly bad run of form.
Redknapp was on hand to offer support and face-to-face training as part of a campaign by Specsavers to find a team in need of help.
Now the club are toasting one of their finest moments of their 113-year history.
Manager Dan Gill said: 'It's a fantastic result, I can't quite believe it. To think where we were a couple of seasons ago – winning zero games, getting battered every week, finishing bottom of the table by a country mile – to now being in the top half of the table and winning the cup… we're just unrecognisable.
'I'm so proud of the team and the club, at the very start of our last season we were at our lowest point that I can remember. Then the Specsavers Best Worst Team campaign gave us that push that we needed, helped us get more players wanting to join, and we're winning more, scoring more and conceding less.'
Last week, the reserve team also made it through to the final of the Swansea Reserve Cup, with Colin Gill, Dan's father among those in the starting line-up.
Colin said: 'It's a huge achievement and the turnaround has been massive. We couldn't get a full team on the pitch two seasons ago, and now we're reaching finals and winning trophies.
'We've certainly been enjoying the celebrations. It's great to see so much hard work pay off. We have other clubs coming over to us after games asking how we managed to keep the club going when we were conceding ten goals a game – it's such a huge moment to get to this point.'

Crystal Palace ‘Showing Interest' in Signing Arsenal Star
Crystal Palace Consider Move for Arsenal Defender Jakub Kiwior Jakub Kiwior's future at Arsenal has become one of the more intriguing transfer stories of the summer. According to Caught Offside, Everton, Wolves and Crystal Palace are among the clubs 'showing interest' in the Polish international as he looks for greater playing opportunities. Kiwior attracting Premier League and European suitors At 24, Kiwior is entering a critical phase of his career. While Arsenal value his versatility, the defender has struggled to secure consistent minutes. The arrival of Cristhian Mosquera has increased competition, and Kiwior's route to a starting role appears blocked by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. As Caught Offside report, 'Previous attempts to sign Kiwior were blocked by Arsenal, but the club's stance could change this time around with the budget from Guéhi's sale.' That line alone will capture the attention of Crystal Palace fans, who know the club are bracing for Marc Guéhi's potential move to a top-six side. Liverpool are strongly linked and want the deal finalised before the window closes. Palace are not the only ones circling. AC Milan have contacted Arsenal to enquire about terms, while Juventus and Porto are monitoring developments. Sources also indicate that Arsenal are considering a new contract and wage increase to retain Kiwior, though the player's main focus is regular football. Photo IMAGO Palace need for defensive depth Crystal Palace face the prospect of losing a defensive cornerstone in Guéhi, a 25-year-old England international admired by elite clubs. His departure would leave a significant void, both in leadership and defensive stability. Adding Kiwior, a left-footed central defender comfortable in a back four or back three, would give Oliver Glasner a reliable option with proven pedigree in Serie A and European football. Kiwior's potential move to Selhurst Park looks logical. He is at 'the peak of his career, and he needs to play regularly to continue his development,' as stated in the report. A team like Palace offers him the platform to feature consistently against high-level opposition, while still competing in a demanding environment. Arsenal's balancing act For Arsenal, the decision is not straightforward. They appreciate Kiwior's tactical flexibility and view him as important cover across the back line. However, keeping a player against his wishes often proves counterproductive. Mikel Arteta may prefer to sanction a sale, particularly if the funds help strengthen other areas of the squad. Caught Offside note that 'it would be ideal for him to move on this summer and join a competitive team, where he will play regularly and fight for trophies.' While Palace may not be immediate title challengers, they can offer him exactly what Arsenal cannot right now: consistent starts in the Premier League. Transfer window decision looms With less than two weeks before the transfer deadline, Kiwior's future must be resolved quickly. Palace are well-placed to act if Guéhi departs, while interest from Milan and Juventus could yet complicate matters. Arsenal, for their part, face a test of their squad planning. Kiwior has admirers at home and abroad, but his own priority will decide the outcome. A move to South London would suit player and club, though Arsenal's intentions may yet prove decisive. Our View – EPL Index Analysis From a Crystal Palace perspective, this report sparks plenty of interest and cautious optimism. Losing Marc Guéhi would be a blow, no question. He has been a rock at the back and one of the leaders on the pitch. If Liverpool or another top side come in with an irresistible offer, Palace must prepare for life without him. Jakub Kiwior feels like a smart target. He is young, hungry and has top-level experience with Arsenal and in Italy. The fact that he has been admired by clubs like AC Milan and Juventus shows the quality he possesses. Palace supporters would see him not just as a replacement for Guéhi, but also as a player who could grow into a leader over the next few seasons. Of course, fans will want assurances that he is not arriving just because Arsenal no longer need him. The key point is playing time, and Palace can offer that. Kiwior alongside Joachim Andersen could form a balanced pairing, with Andersen's aerial dominance and distribution complementing Kiwior's ability to step into midfield and carry the ball. If Guéhi leaves, Palace cannot afford to hesitate. Kiwior fits the club's recruitment model of signing players with room to develop and potential resale value. Supporters would also be reassured that this is not a panic buy but a considered move for a defender already proven at a high level. In short, Palace fans may not want to lose Guéhi, but Kiwior looks like the sort of signing that softens the blow. His arrival would be a statement that Palace intend to remain competitive, even after selling one of their best assets.

Xabi Alonso can agree deal for Liverpool star on one condition
Liverpool are under no small degree of pressure from Real Madrid for Ibrahima Konate. Madrid media is full of stories - claiming the Reds' centre-back is on the brink of a move to the Bernabeu or else set to ink a lucrative free transfer in 2026. 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! Right now Liverpool have got a tough choice. They can entertain bids for the 26-year-old this summer - and sell him for a reasonable fee - or else risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next year. 🔴 Neither scenario is preferable - although it looks like the club are covering themselves in the event of a departure with confirmed interest in Marc Guehi. Madrid midfielders now under pressure But it's not only Konate that Liverpool have to worry about right now. According to Defensa Central, Madrid's decision-makers have informed Xabi Alonso that there will be no more major transfers through the door this summer. It scuppers Alonso's ambitions of adding a high-quality midfielder to the ranks for the new season. However the publication also adds that the Madrid board have pledged to bring in a new midfielder next summer if deficiencies appear in that area during the season. Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Arda Guler are three of the players who must impress this term - or else they face being replaced by one of Madrid's preferred targets in 2026. Madrid identify Alexis Mac Allister as an upgrade Among that number is Alexis Mac Allister - Liverpool's Argentine talisman who is under contract until 2028. Having arrived in time for Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge from Brighton for a bargain £35m fee, Macca has become an integral part of Arne Slot's system. The 26-year-old can count himself as a Premier League title winner following his exertions last season - and is seen by Madrid as a future star of their team. 'From the trio formed by Rodri, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández or Vitinha, among others, the big signing of the year 2026 will emerge, who will arrive alongside Ibrahima Konaté, who will land after finishing his contract with Liverpool,' the report reads. © LFC

Real Madrid great sees Barcelona as La Liga title contenders – ‘It will be between…'
Former Barcelona and Real Madrid winger Luis Figo, still a controversial figure among the Blaugrana supporters, has shared his thoughts on the 2025/26 La Liga season. According to the Portuguese legend, the race for the title will once again be dominated by Barcelona and Real Madrid. Speaking about the favourites for La Liga, Figo made it clear who he expects at the top. 'It will be between Madrid and Barcelona, the theoretically strongest teams, with better players and the best squad and historically with more victories. 'For all these reasons, they are the favourites.' Figo on league reinforcements and star players When asked about some of the new additions and standout players in La Liga, Figo admitted his admiration for certain stars. 'I like Alexander Arnold and Rashford,' he revealed, showing his appreciation for Premier League talents who have joined the Spanish top flight. Luis Figo gave his opinion on the La Liga title race. (Photo byfor Laureus) As for who could emerge as the most valuable player of the season, Figo pointed to those with both technical ability and consistency. 'The MVP of the championship will surely be one of those who have more technical quality and are regular all year round, and who we hope will give a great level, such as Raphinha, Vinicius or Mbappe from Real Madrid or Julian Alvarez from Atleti.' To end the interview, Figo reflected on whether he could have played for another Spanish side outside of Barcelona or Real Madrid. His answer was honest. 'Perhaps Atleti, because of their philosophy of play, the stadium, the atmosphere, it was always exciting to play there, despite having always done it against them. 'And well, it would have also been special to play a derby in Seville, I'm not going to tell you Betis or Sevilla, because if not the other team would kill me, but it would have been very nice with the atmosphere there.'
