True Crime Tuesday: Unsolved murder of Tiffany Bettis
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In this week's True Crime Tuesday, we are turning back the clock to March 2, 2016.
That's when Fairview resident Tiffany Betts, also known as Melinda Smith, was last seen at the Quality Inn in Gresham.
Three years later, in 2019, skeleton remains were found at Chinook Landing and were confirmed to belong to Betts.

Man sentenced 10 years for death of 15-month-old daughter in 2013
PORTLAND, Ore. () — Darian McWoods was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday as a result of a plea deal for the death of his infant daughter more than a decade ago, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. Man accused of sexually assaulting teen In 2018, McWoods was found guilty of multiple charges, including murder by abuse, after his 15-month-old daughter Kamaya Flores died in December 2013. An autopsy found methadone toxicity in her system as the cause of death, the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office determined. The autopsy also found trace amounts of methamphetamine in her blood, broken ribs and proof of compression asphyxiation, meaning she was crushed until she couldn't breathe. Though a jury unanimously convicted McWoods of all of the homicide allegations and other charges in 2018, the case was after prosecutors had dismissed two men from the jury pool who were Black, the same race as the defendant. The court of appeals called the process discriminatory. The case was sent back to the Multnomah County Circuit Court for a retrial. ‘Grinch' who allegedly stole, prowled cars on Christmas in Camas arrested
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Months after a person was caught on camera stealing a car and prowling other vehicles last Christmas, Camas police announced on Wednesday that they have made an arrest in the case. Twenty-three-year-old Jorge Ayala was charged with auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, nine counts of vehicle prowl and third-degree theft. According to police, the crimes occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Christmas morning 2024 when a dark gray Mazda CX3 with Washington license plate BSD5166 was stolen by a 'Grinch' from the Woodburn Neighborhood then used to drive around the area to prowl other vehicles. Ohio man indicted by Erie federal grand jury for child sexual exploitation
(WJET/WFXP)– An Ohio man has been accused by a federal grand jury in Erie of traveling across state lines to meet up with an underage victim to produce child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The six-count indictment against 26-year-old Robert A. Pepus of Garrettsville, Ohio, of travelling across state lines to meet up with a minor to engage in sexual activity, creating and possessing CSAM between September and October 2024. Erie, Chautauqua emergency crews searching for reported missing kayaker Should he be convicted, Pepus faces up to life in prison plus 130 years, a maximum fine of $1.5 million, or both, though the actual sentence would be based on the seriousness of the charge and any prior criminal history.
