The central attraction is a relic casket of Lord Buddha, which is enshrined on the first floor of the memorial. The relic was unearthed during excavations conducted between 1958 and 1962.
This is arguably the first time in India's history that a stupa has been constructed entirely of stone, without using cement, bricks, or concrete. Located in Vaishali district, the stupa stands at a height of 33.10 metres with an internal diameter of 37.80 metres and an outer diameter of 49.80 metres, making it nearly twice the height of the world-famous Sanchi Stupa.
The structure comprises 42,373 sandstone blocks sourced from Banshi Paharpur in Rajasthan, meticulously fitted using the tongue-and-groove technique without any cement or adhesive. Built with modern earthquake-resistant technology, the stupa is designed to endure for thousands of years.
Surrounding the stupa are lily ponds, landscaped gardens and intricate sculptures. A grand entrance archway modelled on the Sanchi gateway showcases the zenith of Buddhist architecture.
Thirty-two skylights have been incorporated to allow a constant flow of light and air within the structure.
The complex also features a meditation centre, visitor centre, museum block, library, amphitheatre, cafeteria, a 500-kilowatt solar power plant, ample parking and other visitor facilities. A statue of Lord Buddha, crafted by artisans from Odisha, is expected to become a special identity of the site, the official added.

Starting this Friday, commuters can purchase a Rs 750 weekly pass that allows unlimited travel on Vajra, ordinary, and express BMTC buses. However, toll charges are not included in this pass. As per Hindustan Times, those using Vajra Express services will need to pay an additional Rs 10 service charge per ride, along with standard toll fees. How Can Commuters Buy This Pass? India's first bullet train to start soon: Vaishnaw
Ahmedabad: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday announced that India's first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will begin operations very soon, reducing travel time between the two cities to just 2 hours and 7 minutes. He was speaking to reporters at the Bhavnagar terminus in Gujarat after virtually flagging off three trains, namely the Ayodhya Express, Rewa Pune Express, and Jabalpur Raipur Express. He further stated that the bullet train project is progressing rapidly. The 508-kilometre high-speed rail corridor will connect Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) with key cities in Gujarat, including Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. The trains are expected to run at speeds of up to 320 km/hour. Vaishnaw also outlined several upcoming railway projects in Gujarat, including a new Porbandar–Rajkot train, a Rs 135-crore coach maintenance facility at Ranavav station, a railway flyover in Porbandar, two Gati Shakti cargo terminals, and a container terminal at a developing port in Bhavnagar. He highlighted the nation's progress, saying that during the last 11 years, 34,000 km of new railway tracks have been installed under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi administration, averaging almost 12 km per day. He described the 1,300 railway stations undergoing renovation as an unprecedented endeavour in the history of Indian Railways. Ashwini Vaishnaw pointed out that India is implementing this change while maintaining train operations and keeping stations operational, which reflects the scope of PM Modi's vision, in contrast to developed nations, where station redevelopment entails completely stopping services.

1 2 3 4 Dibrugarh: Centuries-old Rang Ghar, often hailed as Asia's oldest amphitheatre, now stands bathed in luminous splendour as the Sivasagar district administration has successfully completed its ambitious monument illumination project. The initiative, which has transformed the visual landscape of the historic Ahom-era structure, represents a significant step toward preserving and promoting the state's rich cultural heritage. The illumination project has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the iconic two-storied pavilion but has also sparked renewed public interest in the monument that once served as the royal sports pavilion of the Ahom kings. Built in 1746 during the reign of Swargadeo Pramatta Singha, Rang Ghar stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance and cultural sophistication of the Ahom dynasty. "This illumination project is part of our comprehensive effort to showcase the historical significance of our monuments to both domestic and international tourists. The response from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing amazement at how the lighting brings out the intricate architectural details of the structure," Sivasagar DC Ayush Garg said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2022 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo The district administration's vision extends beyond the Rang Ghar, with plans already underway to illuminate other significant Ahom-era monuments. The majestic Talatal Ghar, a seven-storied palace complex that served as the military base of the Ahom army, will soon get a similar facelift. The Kareng Ghar, another architectural marvel that functioned as the royal palace, is also slated for illumination, along with the serene Sivasagar Pukhuri (Lake) and the sacred Shiva Dol temple. "These monuments represent our glorious past and the advanced civilisation that flourished in Assam centuries ago. The illumination project will help younger generations connect with their heritage, while attracting tourists who appreciate the grandeur of Ahom architecture," Garg added. The district administration has also undertaken comprehensive programmes focusing on cleanliness and beautification of historical monuments, temples, tourist spots, parks, and other significant sites across the district. These initiatives aim to create a holistic tourism experience that honours the region's cultural legacy while meeting modern visitor expectations. "Our goal is to transform Sivasagar into a premier heritage destination. The illumination of these monuments is just the beginning of our larger vision to preserve and promote our historical treasures," Garg said.
