Netflix fans hail 'cream of the crop' British crime thriller as 'pure greatness' - binge-watching every episode and begging for second series

Netflix fans have hailed a 'cream of the crop' British crime thriller as 'pure greatness' after binge-watching every episode just days after its release. The Scottish drama, titled Dept Q, sees cranky detective Carl Morck, played by Matthew Goode, attempt to solve Edinburgh 's cold cases from a shabby office. The nine-part series also features The Queen's Gambit's Chloe Pirrie and Guilt star Jamie Sives. The new series has proved to be a hit with fans, climbing the charts and racking up an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 81% rating. Fans have taken to social media with praise as one posted to X: 'Dept Q on Netflix is such a good crime thriller. Matthew Goode's acting was next level! I hope they make season 2 of this series.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Just finished watching DEPT. Q on Netflix highly recommend it,' someone else gushed. While a fourth penned: 'Dept. Q is exceptionally good! Absolutely great series! please bring back more seasons. Reminds me of #truedetective.' 'I gotta say, when it comes to detective shows, the British are cream of the crop. This new show on @netflix called #DeptQ is pure greatness,' someone else said. One fan added: 'I need the season 2 for #DeptQ like right now!!!' 'Binge watching #DeptQ it is sooooo good, one more episode to go,' another penned. Dept Q impressed the Mail's Christopher Stevens too, who rated the series four out of five stars and raved over the 'explosive plot twists'. As viewers watch a rugged Goode making darkly comical quips onscreen in the detective drama, some may recognise the tall, dark and handsome figure from his countless other roles in TV and film during his illustrious career - in which he is, more often than not, perfectly groomed. The new series has proved to be a hit with fans who have taken to social media to rave about it and has reportedly climbed the charts Among Goode's many acting credits are the dashing Henry Talbot, race car driver and love interest of Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey. He also won hearts in The Crown as society photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon in the second season of the biographical drama series, for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. The British heartthrob has been busy working on varying roles throughout the years, from cult horror hit Stoker to The Imitation Game and even dabbling in vampire fantasy with A Discovery of Witches in 2018. Lorraine Kelly filming new project amid 'insulting' cuts to ITV show

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Lorraine Kelly has revealed she's taking a break from her ITV show for an "amazing new project" leaving fans eager for her return. The beloved 65-year-old Scottish presenter took to Instagram to announce her one-week hiatus as she ventures up north for a project. In her Instagram video, Lorraine excitedly wrote: "BIG FILMING ADVENTURES! ! ! ! Heading to the very far north - it's going to be amazing - see you in a week's time!" She told her 581,000: "Hi there! I'm in the land of the midnight sun. It's absolutely glorious. It's a project that I have wanted to do for years and years and finally it is actually happening. "I'm heading really, really far North. It is going to be amazing and I will tell you all about it when I am back. I'm back a week tomorrow (Monday) and I will see you then. Wish me luck." (Image: Getty) This announcement follows reports that Lorraine was less than impressed with an alleged proposal from ITV. It's been suggested that chiefs proposed integrating her self-titled programme with Good Morning Britain, an idea she reportedly declined. The supposed offer would have seen Lorraine hosting the breakfast segment for half an hour each day, similar to the temporary format used during the COVID-19 crisis, which insiders have described as an "easy fix," reports the Express. Sources close to the presenter, now 65, allegedly revealed that she felt "insulted" by the proposal and declined it. Substantial shifts at ITV have had a significant impact on Lorraine, with the programme being reduced to airing 30 weeks a year and the episode length cut from one hour to just 30 minutes. One insider shared: "Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too. "But the truth is she has to roll her sleeves up and work harder on her own show than she has in recent years, otherwise the long-term future does not look good." Lorraine is on ITV1 weekdays at 9am and ITVX
