Ahead of the film's June release, the makers have dropped a new trailer for the Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal-starrer.
A fresh trailer for Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal is out; it is a complete treat for all Hollywood rom-com lovers. Beginning with everything mushy and romantic with her perfect match to an unexpected run-in with the ex, Dakota Johnson's matchmaker Lucy M will be seen stuck in the epic love triangle. Set against New York City's elite dating scene, the trailer promises equal parts charming and sultry—something amid the chase for an 'ideal match."
The trailer opens to tease what comes with the professional as well as personal life of Lucy, the NYC-based matchmaker courted by the wealthy Harry C (Pedro Pascal). Amid the calculations of $50,000 for her Elite Matchmaking Services to bouquets, dine-outs, and then the $12 million penthouse apartment belonging to Pascal, Lucy finds herself standing in front of her past flame, John P (Chris Evans).
As per the official synopsis, the film revolves around Johnson's ambitious matchmaker, who is torn between her perfect match, a unicorn billionaire, and her imperfect actor-waiter, ex-boyfriend. With the glamorous NYC setting, interesting dialogues, and Celine Song's screenplay packed with sharp wit and humour, Materialists appears ready to become this year's much-talked-about romantic comedy.
Speaking on her inspiration behind the film, Celine Song revealed working as a matchmaker in the late 2010s. 'In that time, I learned more about people and what's in their hearts than I have in any other period of my life. When she would ask clients about their ideal life partner, for instance, 'their answer would be height, weight, race, job, and net worth — and these are all numbers," she told Entertainment Weekly.
This brief yet impactful stint led to Materialists. Just like her debut film, the film also focuses on a woman caught between two lovers.
'I would actually be more interested in it being talked about as a story of Lucy as she navigates not just the love and dating world in her clients' lives, but also her own personal reality and beliefs about love," she continued.
Besides the lead trio, Materialists also features actors like Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Sawyer Spielberg. The film, both written and directed by Song, will be released on June 13.
