Coronation Street reveals first look at Platt house changes as Maria and Lou clash
spoilers follow. Coronation Street has revealed a first look at the changes to the Platt house as the tension between Maria Connor and Lou Michaelis escalates. The iconic house was destroyed back in February as the ITV soap introduced a dramatic storyline, with the property being engulfed in flames after a mystery arsonist pushed a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox. After a brief whodunnit storyline, it was eventually revealed that Max Turner was the hooded individual who had set fire to the house, with the teenager reasoning that a potential insurance pay-out would alleviate David's financial worries. Months on from the drama, which saw Max imprisoned for six and a half years, the iconic house at No.8 has been steadily rebuilt, with the new-look style set to be unveiled in next week's scenes. Related: In a new teaser clip, viewers can see the renovated house in all its glory, with the interior design boasting darker colours than before. The wall between the living room and the kitchen looks to have been removed, making for a tad more space. The teaser also depicts the growing tension between Maria and Lou, who had previously worked together at the salon before the latter was sacked. Reeling from the loss of her job, Lou later shared a drink with Maria's husband Gary, enraging Maria even further. In Friday's (13 June) scenes, which are shown in the clip, both Maria and Lou are invited to the Platt household to celebrate the rebuilding, with several Weatherfield residents gathering for a barbecue. Related: Lou begins to rummage around in somebody's belongings, briefly considering stealing a wad of cash before coming to her senses. Maria, however, comes in at the wrong time, demanding Lou empty her pockets as she brands her a "thieving cow". "You can't tell me what to do," responds Lou, who promptly tries to leave. Maria isn't having any of it, however, as she remains adamant that her adversary has stolen something. The pair begin to grapple, but what will the consequences be? Top food critic delivers verdict on the massive Stockport Pyramid curry buffet
Top food critic Jay Rayner has given his verdict on the Royal Nawaab Stockport. After writing for the Observer for 25 years, he recently moved to the Financial Times, and has dined in some of the finest restaurants in the country. And in his latest column for the broadsheet paper, published today (June 7), Rayner described his visit to Stockport's newest and flashiest curry buffet. READ MORE: Exact time the Red Arrows will fly over the North West this afternoon READ MORE: Discounts and a deserted car park - what's going on with the Trafford Centre's Premium Parking? The gargantuan restaurant and events space opened its doors to much fanfare in April of this year. The pyramid itself, formerly occupied by the Co-Op bank, underwent an enormous renovation to the tune of some £15 million, with an aesthetic Rayner describes as 'classy cruise ship'. The M.E.N's Adam Maidment visited the restaurant on its soft opening and praised the food and decor - even if the enormous scale and bustling crowd of diners was a little 'chaotic'. The space now encompasses three banqueting suites accommodating over 1,000 people and a buffet restaurant with over 400 covers that Rayner said was full when he visited - he had to rely on a local connection to get him a table. Rayner wrote that he was immediately 'clocked' as a reviewer by the restaurant, after which the staff were especially assiduous: "It was a chorus of 'Let me bring you the lamb chops' and 'You must try our nihari' and 'You need three types of naan'". He, too, raised his eyebrows at the scale of the operation which 'laughs in the face of the challenges facing hospitality', writing: "There are, on any given day, more than 100 dishes; a parade of pakoras and tikkas, birianis, masalas and the rest - a startling array. But ultimately the critic heaped warm praise on the food. Setting out his stall as no big fan of buffets, he conceded: "That meagre word doesn't do justice to the gargantuan offering here." "Perfect, bursting mouthfuls" of pani puri as a starter 'set the standard' for the evening, Rayner wrote, describing them as "delicate lentil flour globes filled with nutty chaat alongside jugs of a tamarind-based dressing". "Lamb chops, cut thin, have a decent smoky char. Deep-fried masala-marinated fish is especially good. " Then moving on from grilled items to the curries, he praised more familiar curry house favourites like the lamb nihari: "One of the great dark stews, heavy with green and black cardamom". But he also praised the variety of the dishes on offer. "What's striking is that, while there are crowd-pleasers, the kormas and tikka masalas with broad appeal, it's not all obvious," he wrote. "Lamb paya, a new dish to me, brings lamb trotters, cooked low and slow until chewy and lightly gelatinous, and served in an intensely restorative soup-like broth. "They also have haleem, an extraordinary concoction of lamb in lentils flavoured with ginger, green chillies and lemon, cooked down for so long that it has turned into a paste-like soup. "With this we have blistered Peshawari naan, the almond and pistachio filling dyed a disconcerting pink, alongside still-warm garlic and kulcha naan, crusted with sesame seeds." Rayner noted that there were some non-Asian items on offer as well, including chicken nuggets and lasagne. "But generally, the turnover of fried items is so fast they don't get a chance to go soggy." This was followed by a mouth-watering description of the desserts on offer: "deep-frying curls of cough-sweet-coloured jalebi" and "dinky globes of syrup-soaked gulab jamun, which are served still warm." Concluding by describing it "a remarkable operation", he wrote: I've sneered at the idea of buffets in the past, called them the place where good taste goes to die, and many of them are. "But the Royal Nawaab is a classy rebuttal."

Cynthia Erivo and The Vivienne among ‘LGBT+ changemakers' in 2025 Pride List
Wicked actress Cynthia Erivo and drag queen The Vivienne are among the stars who feature on a list 'celebrating the most influential LGBT+ changemakers of the past year'. The Independent's Pride List for 2025 also includes retired Olympic diver Tom Daley, actor Bella Ramsey, artist David Hockney, comedian Joe Lycett and author Juno Dawson. Erivo, 38, who won a Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (Glaad) Award earlier in the year, was placed at number four on the top 10 list while The Vivienne, the drag alter-ego of the late James Lee Williams, is seventh. The Vivienne, who won the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK and spoke publicly about prejudices faced by LGBT+ people and by the drag community, died in January at the age of 32 and is a posthumous inclusion on the list. Topping the 2025 Pride List is Victoria McCloud, a lawyer, former judge and transgender woman who announced she would take the Government to the European Court of Human Rights over the Supreme Court's ruling on the definition of a woman. READ MORE: Dr McCloud said: 'I'm delighted and honoured that The Independent has included me in its Pride List this year. 'In 2025, more than ever before, amidst increasing oppression and segregation at home, with court and state against us, people from the trans community yearn to be bathed in rainbow light. 'These are uniquely dark times but we will challenge those who wish to marginalise us, be they Government or activists with money and the odd mega-yacht to spare. 'We have been here for centuries; we will be here for centuries to come. The quiet majority walk with us.' In April the UK's highest court unanimously ruled that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 'refer to a biological woman and biological sex'. Chloe Hubbard, UK editor of The Independent, said: 'We are proud to champion our most influential LGBT+ changemakers once again on our annual Pride List in a year where the community has been further marginalised on both sides of the Atlantic. 'Visibility and pride within the queer community feels more vital than ever and we are dedicated to continuing to occupy our unique place in the media on LGBT+ issues.' In 2023, The Independent relaunched its Rainbow List as the Pride List, to recognise 50 extraordinary 'LGBT+ changemakers'. The 2024 list included Doctor Who and Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, commentator and former England footballer Alex Scott, Wicked and Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey and screenwriter Russell T Davies. To mark the publication of its Pride List, The Independent will host an event at Queer Britain on June 11. This year's top 10: 1. Victoria McCloud, former judge of the King's Bench 2. Juno Dawson, author 3. Bella Ramsey, actor 4. Cynthia Erivo, actor and singer 5. Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care 6. David Hockney, artist 7. The Vivienne, drag artist, singer and television personality 8. Joe Lycett, comedian, television presenter and artist 9. Tom Daley, Olympic gold medallist and television personality 10. Yasmin Benoit, model and activist
