Glass lid for cookware: New customs' values fixed

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Valuation Karachi has issued new customs values (US$ 1.25- 1.60 per Kg) on the import of glass lid for cookware of all types (Including Pots, Pans etc.) from China.
In this regard, the directorate has issued a valuation ruling (2007 of 2025).
According to the ruling, Directorate had issued Valuation Ruling No.1945 of 2025. Subsequently, the Valuation Ruling was challenged before General Customs Valuation under section 25D of the Customs Act 1969.
Resultantly, Order-in-Revision was issued and it was directed to afford a hearing opportunity to the petitioners and re-examine the case within four weeks. Therefore, the Directorate of Customs Valuation, Karachi, initiated the process for re-determination of customs values for the subject goods.
Govt plans to establish Rs3bn aquaculture park in Karachi
Accordingly, based on a detailed analysis of import data, prevailing market trends, and observed discrepancies between market prices and existing customs values this exercise was undertaken in accordance with Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969.
During the exercise, the stakeholders argued that the Customs values of subject goods determined vide above mentioned Valuation Ruling were very high and without consultation of stakeholders. Moreover, the item is being imported on very low values as per their declared and invoice values, therefore, should be considered for re-determination of Customs values.
Furthermore, the stakeholders provided relevant information including their export GDs and Commercial Invoices in establishing fair customs values. The viewpoints of the stakeholders were heard in detail and evaluated to arrive at the Customs values of the subject goods.
However, as the goods comprised of different sizes, especially in two distinct shapes viz with and without steel ring, therefore, Section 25(6) was considered to be more relevant and applicable. Relevant references and data were examined under this method to determine the customs values. Based on the analysis of available import data, which provided a reasonable indication of the actual value of the goods, the customs values were accordingly determined under Section 25(6) of the Customs Act, 1969.
Customs values for Glass Lid -hereinafter specified shall be assessed to duty/taxes on the Customs values given against them, the ruling added.

Buying momentum persists, KSE-100 gains ovr 500 points

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) observed buying momentum, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining over 500 points during the opening minutes of trading on Tuesday. At 9:35am, the benchmark index was hovering at 139,934.68 level, an increase of 554.63 points or 0.40%. Buying was seen in key sectors including automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, fertilizer, oil and gas exploration companies and refinery. Index-heavy stocks including ARL, PRL, MARI, POL, PPL, SNGPL and UBL traded in the green. On Monday, PSX saw modest upward momentum, fueled by investor interest in cement and technology stocks ahead of the monetary policy announcement and key corporate earnings. The benchmark KSE-100 Index gained 172.77 points, or 0.12 percent, to close at 139,380.06 points Internationally, Asia shares eased on Tuesday while the euro nursed its losses as investors pondered the downside of the US-EU trade deal and the reality that punishing tariffs were here to stay, with unwelcome implications for growth and inflation. The initial relief over Europe's 15% levy quickly soured when set against the 1% to 2% that stood before President Donald Trump took office. Leaders in France and Germany lamented the outcome as a drag on growth, pulling down stocks and bond yields across the continent while slugging the single currency. Trump also flagged a 'world tariff' rate of 15% to 20% on all trading partners that were not negotiating a deal, among the highest rates since the Great Depression of the 1930s. A further risk to world growth came from a sudden spike in oil prices after Trump threatened a new deadline of 10 or 12 days for Russia to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine or face tougher sanctions on oil exports. The air of caution saw MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan slip 0.7%. Japan's Nikkei eased 0.8% while Chinese blue chips fell 0.1%. This is an intra-day update

Japanese rubber slips on profit-taking

SINGAPORE: Japanese rubber futures fell on Monday, pressured by profit-taking after recent gains, while softer demand also weighed on market sentiment. The Osaka Exchange (OSE) rubber contract for January delivery ended daytime trade down 7.6 yen, or 2.28%, at 326 yen ($2.20) per kg. *The rubber contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for September delivery fell 390 yuan, or 2.52%, to 15,065 yuan ($2,101.67) per metric ton. The most-active September butadiene rubber contract on the SHFE lost 365 yuan, or 2.96%, to 11,955 yuan ($1,667.81) per ton. Vietnam's tyre sector continues to struggle due to higher fixed costs, excess inventories in China, and sluggish demand, Japan Exchange Group said in a report on Monday. Following a sharp rise in rubber prices over the past two weeks, profit-taking by funds has emerged, leading to a short-term pullback, a Singapore-based trader said. The trader added that such corrections are healthy, emphasising that an overly rapid rise is unsustainable in the long run. Still, rainfall disturbances in domestic and foreign production areas persist, restricting rubber tapping and providing support to prices, said Chinese commodities data provider Longzhong Information. Top rubber producer Thailand's meteorological agency warned of heavy rains and accumulations from July 28-29. Elsewhere, the United States and European Union agreed to 15% tariffs on automobiles. Automobile sales could influence the intensity of automobile manufacturing, which involves using rubber-made tyres. Meanwhile, oil prices rose as the US-EU agreement lifted trade optimism. Natural rubber often takes direction from oil prices as it competes for market share with synthetic rubber, which is made from crude oil. The front-month rubber contract on Singapore Exchange's SICOM platform for August delivery last traded at 170 US cents per kg, down 3.3%.
