I never considered myself a pickup truck person. I've driven my dad's incredibly practical (and incredibly large) Nissan Titan a handful of times over the years, but I didn't think I would ever want to own one myself. That changed almost the instant I took the wheel of the 2025 Ford F-150 Hybrid 4x4 SuperCrew and drove it through the blustery, rain-slick streets of Seattle.
But what impressed me most about this truck isn't just how it powered through rough weather; or how it's a masterclass in automotive comfort; or simply, its sheer size — it's the fact that this beast of a hybrid vehicle can travel around 700 miles before needing to be refueled.
The 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, offers a blend of muscle and efficiency I've never experienced on the road before. So not only can a truck like this tow, haul, and climb with the same grit as any F-150, but the fuel economy rating of 23 MPG and 30.6 gallon tank with electrical assistance means it can go the distance.
During my trip in Seattle, I didn't once worry about finding a pump despite multi-hour drives to explore the surrounding areas. (Side note: I finally get the hype around the Pacific Northwest's scenery.) Better yet, the Pro Power Onboard 7.2kW system had outlets everywhere: in the bed, in the center console and throughout the cabin. It was keeping my gadgets charged up without showing any setbacks to the truck's estimated mileage.
Of course, my estimated mileage varied slightly depending on how I was driving. Wanting to really milk this truck's impressive range, I opted to engage Ford BlueCruise, which gave me hands-free highway driving.
Cruise control is always something fuel efficiency-minded drivers like me use often, but BlueCruise takes things a step further by making automatic changes based on traffic conditions and even suggesting lane changes.

To use hands-free driving in a Ford vehicle with BlueCruise, you must be in a designated Blue Zone covered on 97% of controlled-access highways in the U.S. and Canada. When available, the system prompts you to engage adaptive cruise control and, after calibrating, allows you to take your hands off the wheel and feel a bit of ease inside the cabin.

Speaking of the cabin, it feels more like a luxury SUV than workhorse truck. The 12-inch screen, twin-panel moonroof and polished mobile office setup made it feel like my own command center when I was at the wheel. The Bang & Olufsen 8-speaker system was also shockingly good, and if you've read my articles about in-car audio before, you know I'm hard to impress.
After a few days behind the wheel, it's clear the 2025 Ford F-150 Hybrid isn't just for truck loyalists — but it could possibly turn someone like me into one. I found myself driving longer, exploring farther, and worrying less about where the next gas station might be. That kind of freedom, especially in a full-size pickup, completely shifted my perspective on what a truck can offer.

The 2026 Ram 1500 will once again be available with a 395-hp Hemi V-8. Ram says it resurrected the V-8 due to customer demand, and it will coexist with the base Pentastar V-6 and mightier Hurricane twin-turbo straight-six. The Hemi is a $1200 option on most models; orders are now open, and the half-ton trucks will reach Ram dealers sometime this summer. Ram was left with a lot of unhappy customers after it retired the popular Hemi V-8. It probably didn't help that full-size trucks from Ford and GM still offered engines with eight cylinders. However, Ram says customer demand has made it see the error of its ways, so it's bringing the Hemi out of retirement. The 5.7-liter V-8 returns the same way it left, featuring a 48-volt "eTorque" hybrid system along with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Hemi slots between the Pentastar 305-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and the Hurricane twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six, which makes 420 or 550 horses in standard- or high-output configurations, respectively. Ram Besides the unmistakable growl of a V-8, how will anyone know a Hemi lives under the hood? Just look for the "Symbol of Protest Badge" (pictured above) on the trucks' front fenders. The badge itself has a cool design that features a ram head on the front of an eight-cylinder engine block, but the name is strange and seems contradictory, considering Ram at some point will launch the plug-in hybrid Ramcharger and electric REV. But, hey, the "Protest" badge will certainly be a conversation starter. Ram says the new Hemi-powered pickups are now available to order, and they'll reach dealerships sometime this summer. The V-8 will be a $1200 option on the Tradesman, Express, Warlock, Big Horn/Lone Star, and Laramie; it'll be a no-cost option on the Limited and Longhorn. The V-8 will eventually be available on the off-road-ready Rebel too, but not until later on, and we don't know pricing. Ram Of course, the question some of you are probably asking is whether the V-8's revival will extend to the Ram TRX. So far, nothing has been confirmed. But today's news—combined with a report from earlier this year—makes it seem like an announcement is imminent. Plus, Ram's recent teaser suggests it has more "big things" to announce on June 8. Ford Motor Co.'s chief financial officer outlined how tariffs and supply chain disruptions are expected to impact Ford's vehicle production and its costs during a wide-reaching interview with a Wall Street analyst June 4. Ford CFO Sherry House said the Dearborn-based carmaker will provide more details on the economic impact from President Donald Trump's tariffs and other policy changes in its second-quarter earnings next month. But she cautioned there are still many unknowns being sorted out, all of which could make Ford's upcoming financials "a bit lumpy," she said. "As we move into the next couple of weeks to prepare for the quarter, if we give guidance it will be in the caveats of what we can't define," House said. "If we don't, we're going to give you every piece of information that we feel we can to help you, other analysts and investors to understand the business as much as possible.' Here are the top takeaways from House's fireside chat with analyst Joe Spak at the UBS Auto and Auto Tech Conference in New York on June 4: House said Ford has seen some backlogs to getting rare earth minerals into the supply chain, so Spak asked how that could impact vehicle production. 'There are many components that rare earth minerals are in and many of those that are coming from China require you to now go through export controls, so there's an additional layer of administrative process that has to happen," House said. She said sometimes the components pass through smoothly, other times there are holdups and that's when Ford has to take action to mitigate any disruptions. "You have to look for alternative parts or alternative ways to get things," House said. "Frequently, it goes through, it just may take more time. So then you might be facing expedited shipment costs that you weren't anticipating and it just puts stress on a system that's highly organized with parts being ordered many weeks in advance." She said Ford has been managing the issue so far, but warned, "I don't know if at some point this is going to be a larger issue for us?" As for Trump's latest tariff: a boost in steel and aluminum to 50%, House said the impact on Ford should be minimal because Ford buys all its aluminum from domestic suppliers and it buys 80% of steel from U.S. sources. Ford will manage any price increases in steel through "contract pricing," meaning prices have already been set. "So when all of this hits, there is a delayed impact," she said. On April 29, Trump signed an executive order that set up a complicated system of federal reimbursements on certain imports of auto parts and components for the next two years used in vehicles made in the United States. The order gives Detroit's automakers some relief from what Trump earlier had ordered — 25% tariffs on all imported autos which began in April and another 25% on all imported auto parts set to begin by May 3. Spak asked House how Ford is getting the federal reimbursements for the parts that are compliant with the United States Mexico Canada Agreement as outlined in the order Trump signed at the end of April. She said a lot of that is still being defined. "I don't completely know," House said. "So you're paying the tariffs now. I think it's very possible that there will be a delay in getting those offset. I'm talking about the parts offset. It could be by a quarter, it could be by a couple of quarters. But all of you who are looking at our financials in Q2, Q3 and Q4, are going to have to know that it's going to be a bit lumpy. You might have more expense before you actually get the money reimbursed.' The good news for Ford is 80% of the parts used on its vehicles are USMCA-compliant and 80% of the vehicles it sells in the United States are built here. Still, the automaker warned during its first-quarter earnings report that tariffs will add $1.5 billion in net costs this year. For the 20% of suppliers who import parts, House said Ford is having conversations with them, seeking ways to help mitigate Ford's exposure to tariffs and lower those costs, while also meeting the business obligations of its suppliers. 'As we face the tariff situation, we face it together," House said of Ford's suppliers. "The types of conversations we are having are around: Do you have additional capacity in the U.S.? Could you move to the U.S.? What types of investments might help you get there?' But she explained that it is "a very complex and nuanced situation" with the supply base as to which suppliers to press for changes. Ford considers the kinds of quality, cost, technology and performance a supplier has provided in the past as to how it works with them around the tariffs, she said. 'But on an individual basis we're decided whether or not it makes sense to make some of these changes," House said. "I don't have anything to announce with you right now, but, of course, you would look at some of your higher priced components first, items that affect more vehicles, that would be the order of operations.' House did not address a May 25 report in the Wall Street Journal that cited sources as saying Ford would share production space in its battery plant in Kentucky with rival Nissan. The move signals Ford's retrenchment from electric vehicle investments and it helps the Japanese automaker reduce its exposure to tariffs on imported vehicles and parts. More: Analysts: Ford May sales surge indicates its made-in-America marketing is working, for now But House did say given the "very competitive global landscape" with companies having different needs and levels of technology, it makes sense to be thinking about partnerships so as to get more efficiency, especially if it is an area where Ford does not need to be No. 1. She said the automaker is "absolutely open" to doing more partnerships than the ones it currently has in place. House joined Ford about a year ago and became its CFO in recent months. When asked how she has seen the company change culturally, she listed a few ways: First, Ford has started to put more specialists in roles as opposed to putting a really great generalist in roles. For example, when it named Liz Door as its chief supply chain officer in 2023. House called her "an amazing supply chain leader at the forefront of that thinking." More: Ford executive says automaker has competitive edge against tariffs, will adjust operations House said she has challenged Ford to think about "not letting your governance define what the pace of the business is going to be." "What happens is big companies … you have weekly meetings on a topic, you have monthly meetings on topic, you have quarterly meetings on a topic. What happens when you set up your business that way is you are running to that governance structure and you're only doing the work to get ready for that weekly meeting or monthly meeting," House said. "But if you can step back and let the priorities define the pace versus the governance structure, the business define the pace, I think you can go a lot faster and you can make sure you're focused on the right things.' She said Ford also has looked to "break boundary constraints" in its strategy meetings. "If you're having meetings with just one function, a lot of times you can't break the boundary constraints because you don't have everybody in the room that can tell you can do something. So you feel like you can't," House said. "So having more cross functional meetings as well. These are all tactics that can make a difference." Jamie L. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued notices for over 1 million vehicles under the Ford Motor Company umbrella including Ford and Lincoln nameplates. The huge Ford recall is due to a major software issue that extends to several best-selling models including the 2021-2024 Ford F-150, 2021-2024 Ford Bronco, and more. This software issue raises a major question for American drivers. Have cars become too advanced for our own good, simplifying driving to a point where our skills as drivers have dulled? Furthermore, is a reliance on new safety and driver assistance features potentially dangerous? Prior to the rise of rearview cameras in America, many drivers had to reverse by turning their heads to look through their rear window or rely on rearview mirrors. Drivers of older vehicles still rely on this technique, and over one million Ford owners affected by this recall could be forced to as well (until their vehicles are repaired). So, Ford drivers who are operating affected vehicles may benefit from using the same technique drivers use during licensing road tests. The added step of glancing out of the rear window while reversing (as drivers did pre-backup cam) could help reduce the risk of crashes. Why are over a million Ford models included in NHTSA's recent recall notices? A "frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash", according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's safety report. A whopping 1,075,299 units are potentially affected by this issue, making this recall one of the largest of 2025. Ford is remedying this issue by updating vehicle software at authorized dealers or through over-the-air updates free of charge. Letters notifying owners of the potential safety risk are expected to be mailed by June 16. Why is this such a serious issue for American drivers? Driver assistance and safety features have evolved over the past decade. Today, many American drivers have access to standard technologies such as front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitors, lane-keeping assist, and even rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking — all designed to help prevent potential collisions while reversing. These features have arguably made driving safer than previous years due to automatic braking and increased alerts/awareness, but what did drivers do before these features became so popular? "Backup cameras, which are also referred to as reverse cameras and rearview cameras, have been a required safety feature in all new American-made cars since May 1, 2018" according to Hagerty, an American automotive lifestyle and membership company. Rearview cameras changed the way Americans drive because they simplified a process that drivers had practiced for decades. Suddenly parallel parking and reversing had become both easier and safer for drivers because rearview cameras give better indications of proximity than a rearview mirror. The addition of front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitors, and 360-degree cameras make reversing even easier. Rearview cameras reduce reversing crash rates, says the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, thus a sudden loss of rearview camera accessibility could increase reversing crash rates. Ford's recall hints at a wider issue for the entire industry and American drivers. Has driving become too easy in the eyes of Americans due to innovative new features? Driver attention warning features are becoming standard on many popular nameplates because of the potential for drivers to become distracted. Operating a motor vehicle has gotten easier over the last few decades, possibly to the detriment of drivers. Vehicles can now be parked remotely and driven semi-autonomously (with a strong emphasis on "semi"). Most semi-automated vehicle systems "fall short on safety" according to a 2024 report on vehicle safety tests by CBS News. Between all the new sensors, warning indicators, automatic braking, and advanced cruise control, drivers are growing increasingly reliant on technology to make driving safer and more convenient.
