Zahid: Sejahtera Madani raises RM127mil, exceeds target to fight urban poverty
PUTRAJAYA: The Sejahtera Madani initiative is a comprehensive anti-poverty programme that goes beyond conventional financial aid by also addressing the growing challenge of urban poverty, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said the programme, coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister's Department, has successfully collected RM127 million in contributions, surpassing its original target. "This initiative does not only involve financial assistance but also contributions in the form of goods, services and training. It is a commendable effort that complements existing government programmes for poverty eradication. "The focus is also on urban poverty. We need to eradicate urban poverty. This is a good method, but we must follow through with consistent actions," he said to reporters after the Sejahtera Madani programme launch today. Zahid added that coordination and monitoring by both government and non-government stakeholders are crucial to ensuring lasting results. "While addressing poverty, we must not just give fish; we must provide the fishing rod. With that rod, people can catch their own fish. "This means that this is a long-term programme which will also be monitored by the private sector and government-linked companies, which is a good action," he said. Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the Sejahtera Madani programme. The Sejahtera Madani Programme is a national initiative coordinated by the ICU, Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) to assist poor and hardcore poor households registered in the eKasih system. The programme consolidates various forms of assistance across ministries, agencies and the private sector to reduce poverty in a targeted and integrated manner. Anchored in a "whole-of-nation approach", it is strengthened with additional elements focusing on high-impact and sustainable assistance to households in eKasih, through four key initiatives: income generation, education, housing and welfare.

PUTRAJAYA: The success of the People's Well-being Initiative (Sejahtera MADANI) hinges on strong follow-through to ensure lasting impact in eradicating urban poverty, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, emphasised that while the initiative is a positive step, it requires sustained efforts to truly benefit those in need. 'As often said, we cannot just give a man a fish — we must give him a fishing rod so that he can catch fish on his own. 'In other words, the programme must be long-term and include joint monitoring by the private sector, government-linked companies, government-linked investment companies and other bodies. This is a good approach,' he said. He spoke to the media after the launch of Sejahtera MADANI by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The initiative, backed by nearly RM120 million in funds, provides not only financial aid but also goods, services, and training. Ahmad Zahid praised the effort, coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department, as a commendable step in addressing poverty. Sejahtera MADANI targets poor and hardcore poor households registered under the National Poverty Database (eKasih system). It integrates aid from ministries, agencies, and the private sector for a focused, nationwide approach. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar added that the initiative aligns with the Fifth Core of the Public Service Reform Agenda, which strengthens public-private collaboration. 'The implementation chain of such programmes must continue to be strengthened, in line with the Whole-of-Nation approach that emphasises the spirit of unity and consensus, in accordance with the principle of ihsan, which underpins the MADANI values,' he said. Mk3d unites rural entrepreneurship programmes under one platform
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has unveiled Karnival Mega 3 Dimensi (MK3D) as a unified platform combining key rural entrepreneurship programmes. The initiative merges efforts from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), FELDA, and the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) to streamline rural development. 'This strategic consolidation reduces government costs while maximising impact,' Zahid stated during a media briefing. He emphasised MK3D's role in fostering rural entrepreneurship by connecting agencies, buyers, and tech providers under one ecosystem. Scheduled from July 30 to August 3 at MITEC, the event anticipates over two million visitors. 'We project RM209 million in economic gains, driven by sales and business networking,' Zahid added. More than 1,000 entrepreneurs nationwide will showcase products to investors and institutional partners. Aligned with the 'Desaku Mendunia' theme, MK3D aims to position rural Malaysia as a global economic contributor.
