I sought clarity from franchise, nothing in my hands: Ashwin on speculation of leaving CSK
While CSK had one of its worst seasons in 2025, Ashwin played just nine games, taking seven wickets at an economy rate of 9.12.
"Last year, I played only nine games; in all my years of playing in the IPL, that was the first year I played just nine games. I always used to play every game for whichever franchise I was in, so it was my first experience like that. I asked for clarity from my side, but I asked for it during the IPL season itself," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel with speculation of him being traded with Sanju Samson of Rajasthan Royals making the rounds.
It has been reported that Samson wants to move on after a long association with the Royals.
"If Samson's trade is to happen, CSK will have to keep 18 crores free, and then you have to see who you can release to make that space," he said. "If tomorrow I'm not in the CSK team, it might benefit them — there's no doubt about that. But it can't all be about me," he added.
Ashwin also spoke about the fact that not everything depends on the player but he can always express his opinion about wanting to leave a franchise.
"Now, a player can express that he does or does not have an interest in renewing the contract and hence can seek clarity. So in this situation, where I am right now, I only sought clarity, which I had, in fact, asked for after the season had ended.
"Right now, there is nothing in my hand. And all these rumours do not come from the player. Take the situation with Sanju, it was not he who said anything. It was either rumours from here and there or from the franchise. And there are a lot of layers to this," he said.
He also spoke about the mathematics of trading where it can be part cash, part trade, same price trading or an all-cash deal.
"I became a CSK player last year at 9.5 crores, and Sanju Samson's price is 18 crores at RR. If CSK want to take an 18-crore player, they will have to keep 18 crores free, or they can directly trade with RR.
"You can also trade somewhere else and take him in just a cash deal. I am not saying this is happening because I am conflicted in this matter. I work a little bit with the academy and am working with CSK, so I don't have any inside news.
"A lot of meetings happen, and decisions are made there on what will be done, and I have no current communication on it. Of course, I can ask for clarity— I have already asked before: what my role is, how I can get better, etc," he reiterated.

Where does that leave Sanju Samson? A number four spot. Would I want to bat at number four when I am opening for India? Absolutely not. He proposed that if Chennai are serious about acquiring Samson, they could trade both Ashwin and Vijay Shankar in exchange for the India batter. "CSK for sure. If they are able to get him and if they are able to snap him up, then it'll do really well for him. I think the transition of MS Dhoni to the next wicketkeeper, they already have in Sanju, so that is already taken care of. Otherwise, they would have to look at, say, at this point, say Devon Conway as a wicketkeeping option. But if he comes onboard, there is a lot of good that can happen for CSK," he said. "What they don't have? They only have Shimron Hetmyer at six. They don't have a finisher at number six or seven. Maybe Sam Curran. Vijay Shankar could be the one who goes with Ashwin as well. That could happen. He's a pretty decent bowler, but they haven't utilised him." Chinnaswamy Stadium set to lose Women's World Cup matches as KSCA under scanner for not getting police clearance
Bengaluru has been dealt a major setback ahead of the Women's World Cup, with the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium reportedly set to miss out on hosting matches for the marquee ICC tournament starting September 30, 2025. The report further suggested that the Greenfields Stadium in Karyavattom, Thiruvananthapuram, has emerged as a possible alternative venue to host the matches scheduled in Bengaluru. M Chinnaswamy Stadium was originally set to host tournament's opening game featuring India on September 30. It is also the venue for four other matches between England and South Africa (October 3), India and Bangladesh (October 26), the second semifinal on October 30, and the final on November 2. The Karnataka government's tough approach has cast doubt over the city's future as a venue for major events, especially with the T20 World Cup scheduled for early next year and the IPL. The government recently denied permission for the Maharaja Cup, which was subsequently moved to Mysuru. The KSCA had to shift the ongoing Maharajah T20 Trophy to Mysuru even after deciding to conduct it behind closed doors at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The state body was forced to move the tournament after the one-man D'Cunha Commission deemed the Chinnaswamy Stadium "unsafe" for large-scale events. The state government appointed the commission to inquire into the stampede on June 4 here, in which people died and several others were injured during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations. According to ICC regulations, the host association must hand over the stadium to the global governing body at least 30 days before the tournament starts, with no other matches allowed during that window. Despite this, the Greenfields Stadium is slated to stage Kerala Cricket League (KCL) fixtures from August 21 to September 7. However, KCA officials remain optimistic that the T20 games can be shifted to an alternate venue if the World Cup fixtures are allotted to them. "We have backup venues, if the World Cup matches are shifted here. But as of now we are waiting for a final confirmation," sources close to the development told PTI.

Thiruvananthapuram likely to step in for Bengaluru at Women's World Cup
Kochi: Bengaluru's loss could now become Thiruvananthapuram's gain, with the Greenfield Stadium in Kariavattom likely to host some matches in the upcoming Women's World Cup, scheduled from Sept 30 to Nov 2. Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president K Jayesh confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding this. He said ICC chairman Jay Shah asked him in Mumbai on Monday if they could take over as the host. "We assured him that Thiruvananthapuram is ready to host the Women's World Cup matches. We have the necessary infrastructure," he said. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was awarded four matches — including the final, provided Pakistan did not qualify — when the ICC announced the official tournament itinerary. However, the plans came unstuck after the deadly stampede outside the stadium on June 4, during the Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL victory celebrations, claimed 11 lives. In the aftermath, the Karnataka govt reportedly withdrew permission to host any match at the venue. The decision followed the findings of a govt-commissioned probe led by Justice John Michael D'Cunha, which declared the stadium "fundamentally unsafe" for large-scale events, citing design flaws, poor crowd management infrastructure, limited entry and exit points, inadequate public transport access and insufficient parking. The fallout has already affected other events. The Chinnaswamy Stadium was recently denied permission to host the KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy, which has now been shifted to Mysuru's Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar ground. While an official confirmation from the ICC is still pending, the KCA remains optimistic. "It's not yet confirmed how many matches we will host. We are waiting for the ICC's nod and several logistical challenges still need to be addressed," Jayesh said. Thiruvananthapuram's Greenfield Stadium, the only international-standard cricket venue in Kerala, last hosted an international match during the India vs Sri Lanka ODI in 2023.
